If anyone has ideas for things Mathilde could check, test, or ask without venturing from the direct vicinity of the steam-wagons, suggest them now.
Whether everyone else is seeing the exact same trees we are, or if the descriptions don't quite match up.

I'm pretty sure the trees aren't an illusion, but this would be one way, depending on the nature of such an illusion.

Obligatory End Times is non-canon here.

Also he's not going to ascend now, you know being crushed by a device of your own creation tends to make ascending to godhood harder.
I mean, unless that's explicitly part of the process...

(Don't judge me, I've played Cultist simulator. Blowing up a city with you inside it is barely enough to make it to demigod status.)

The bones, for one.

Autocorrect or intentional?

Personally, I've got nothing against AoS- it certainly seems to have quite a few fans, and I can agree that what little I've seen of it seems interesting enough, though I'm not interested in looking into it further.

I mean, Airship Goldpunk Dwarfs is pretty banging, frankly.
Autocorrect.

My computer is sort of broken so I'm swapping between my phone and my tablet, both have autocorrect and the tablet goes real hard on it's auto correct.

Examining bones and sand are already done, as is asking Cyrston about the trees, asking the Knights about Beastmen behaviour, and Asarnil if he knows anything about this

1 Ask the Light wizards to check the Dhar levels of the surrounding area.
2 in Large letter in Khalizad Ask the Dwarfs in Karak Dum for a meeting.
3 ask the Jade wizard if he can sense something
4 ask all the wizards what they see through wizards sight or can sense if it does not put them at risk or they volunteer.

Did Borek leave any personal belongings behind? Searching his stuff seems unlikely to yield anything relevant but we could probably delegate to the Rangers?

Well, based on popular theories:

what happens to Dhar entering the desert

what happens to solid rock entering the desert

whether the change in temperature is sudden or comes for a particular direction

any particularly strong magic flowing into the general area

visually inspect the border between desert and forest

visually inspect if there is any magic flowing from or to the "herdstone"

...How loud of an Illusion could we make to try and elicit a response from the mountain? Some sort of request for parley or something?

What do the Beastmen do if we try communicating with them via Dwarven Semaphore, which we know is definitely a thing that exists due to the whole Eye of Gazul thing.

For once, we could ask the Jade Journeyman if he can recognize them plants and try to ubicate from where this kind of forest is...

We could also use Breach the Unknown and or Tale of Metal in the objects that are near the skeletons.

And we can ask Barbitus what does his guts say... He could feel pretty intensely chaos when we deal with the daemonettes.

'Cast magic around Morghur' is not something Mathilde will be testing unless the thread votes to do so.
What qualifies as around? Like, close enough to see him, or just in his general direction, or what?

In the meantime, if he's still visible, maybe watch for more realityflinching to see if she can pin down whether it's corruption or stabilization?

From what the Yusak said, the eastern and western flanks are consider 'owned' by other Tribes currently. There's nobody there that Mathilde can see, but it's still not a zero-risk thing to attempt.

Would the same apply to Asarnil flying directly upwards to get a view of the northern side of the area? Are those flyers we saw or similar a constant presence?

Shooting a message into the forest if it's not too far would be an option, especially if we use Asarnil to fly up for extra range.

If we have any disposable animals our amber wizard Seija could convince them to go into the forest and return and report back. We could even stick a matrixed spell into the animal to see if it results in an interesting reaction (that's also a way to get around the casting magic around Morghur problem if we want to test magic in his vicinity)

Firing the cannons into the forest to see if there's a reaction if we're close enough.
