Ahhh I see Mathilde found the casino before she left. Ranald blew on her dice. And she staggers back with everything including their eye teeth in a sack over her shoulder. Seem legit.

Special Rules
Dawongr
As a Dwarf-Friend, Mathilde is treated in all respects as a fellow Dwarf by friendly Dwarf units, even if taken as part of an Empire detachment. She may join Dwarf units, nearby Dwarves may benefit from her Inspiring Presence if she is the Empire's General, and she may even be the General of a Dwarf army in which there are no 'Dwarf Lord' or 'Runelord' units or Characters - even if she is also the Empire's General.

Huh.

This gave me the dumb image of a Dwarf vs Empire Match where both sides forget to include leadership outside of Mattie, so the person with Mattie on their side successfully argues that, per the Rules as Written, Mattie takes command of both sides and the battle never happens.

Some real Irresponsible Captain Tylor stuff.

Statline is mostly unchanged, Leadership aside, because as above I wasn't sure when the last update was to gauge how much improvement there's been, there's a lot to keep track of, and frankly she was already pretty damn stacked for a human, but I somewhat speculatively bumped WS and BS up by one and added Sniper to represent her ongoing martial training, her dip into assassination skills, and her knack for picking off leaders. Also added Magical Attacks for the spell mastery that auto-does that, an attempt at a custom Windsage rule (plus the dispel specialties folded under it) and a custom Dwarf-Friend rule for allied Empire/Dwarf armies.

Wargear-wise I'm most uncertain about Ranald's Coin; I've tried to mechanically represent both its actual effects and her penchant for using it to wander in disguised as the enemy and then performing a decapitating strike, but I don't know how balanced it looks. I'm especially not convinced by or happy with the Deceiver/Night Prowler pair, and am similarly unconvinced at the Doppleganger rules, but they're the best I can think of at the moment.

That all being said, I absolutely love how tanky Mathilde is even by normal standards let alone Wizard ones. She functionally has twelve Wounds and that's if you somehow manage to stop her killing things all game - not only that, but she's taking those Wounds at T5 with a 4+ Armour Save. Some rough Mathshammer at S4 enemies: 5+ To Wound and then a 5+ Armour save gives 1/3 * 2/3 = 2/9 of a Wound per average attack, which is to say that it'll take fifty-four standard hits to kill her. Bearing in mind that everyone who gets one of those hits in is getting counterpunched at S6, and also Mathilde has a S10 autodispel sword and Dwarf guns.
I don't believe BS should be bumped - she's not put much effort into shooting better. I'm also iffy on the generalized Windsage effect, although the specific anti-greenskin/necromancy bonuses seem reasonable.

The Coin tends to be used more for strategic effect - I'm not sure I would include it at all. Also, you forgot the spellburner effect of the Belt.
Mathilde has to actively cast Bless Weapon to affect her guns, it's not automatic.

Doppleganger can probably be simulated by allowing her to use the Hidden rule. Burning Shadows is tricky enough to use that it is probably not worth including.

That said, I'm almost disappointed it wasn't a slave. Would've been interesting, but could also go terrible in the end.
Another reminder that we didn't go to the slave room.

If you don't want to, you don't need to read the spoiler. It says more or less what you imagine it would.
Fishies!

I was wondering how much the results of this expedition would becroggle Borek, but then realized he'd categorize it under "weird Wizard things", and be happy that the Expedition is in a better position. There are some benefits to working for someone as singleminded as he is.

Hmm, I suppose the next step would be to test Nee Tabletop Math versus Exemplar Bloodthirster, or one of the other three Great Daemons for variety.
:V

It's mostly just convenient. It's real nice that Mattie doesn't have to spend time figuring out who she owes money to, and then arranging to pay them back once this is all finished.

Sure, this would have probably happened automatically without us doing anything, Mattie probably would have taken care of it without us needing to vote, but you know what, not everything is about AP. I'm happy that fluff wise Mattie has saved herself a lot of work, even if it never would have affected us as a player base.

Plus, instead of spending money paying the Dawi back, we can it spend all on something else .... like books! Alternatively, throw it back into the EIC.

I justified the BS bump in my head on the basis of the shooting shenanigans she's pulled since her last actual action working on guns - stuff like the Skaven-disguise assassinations; even if she hasn't put training in I feel like she's had sufficient experience to improve? Then again that isn't reflected on the character sheet and I'm going for Quest accuracy, so I'll drop it back to 4.

Windsage I did dither over the power level on. Maybe I'll drop the Dispel part and leave Channelling? I think that does feel better.

Coinwise the strategic effect is fairly clear in the augments it provides to Mathilde's Scout rule, and in campaigns any reputation mechanic that's in use. I think, personally, that the anti-Character alpha strike is such a core part of her methodology that not including it would be worse than including it with janky mechanics - at least those can be houseruled, if this was an actual official statline.

Hidden only works to let you hide in your own units as far as I'm aware, whereas the entire point of Doppleganger is to get into enemy units and shank them from within.

I'd conceptualise Burning Shadows as dealing a hit to every model in/within X" of a terrain feature that would reasonably create shadows, if it were daytime, or with a terrain feature between them and something on fire/a fire breath weapon used in the last round, but as I type that out I realise it's still pretty complicated, and really she only uses it for the Eye anyway so leaving it out isn't going to hurt.

DOUBLE EDIT: The belt description I copy-pasted from the original, that's at most 50% my fault :V I'll go and correct that too, though.

EDIT:

Hmm, I suppose the next step would be to test Nee Tabletop Math versus Exemplar Bloodthirster, or one of the other three Great Daemons for variety.
:V

... I'm gonna go grab some bloodthirster stats and do some mathshammer.

Where did you get this from? I have severe doubts that the other Runelords are happy to just hand over their Anvils so Thorek can do something he won't explain to them.
They would also be unhappy to see unexplained warp-blood-stuff of human accidental origin having anything doing with the runes (not anvils), so there's a layer of polite indirection covering the whole process.

"Runelord Thorek, who has a great many Runelord secrets we shan't ask about, in collaboration with Loremaster Weber, who has a great many Loremaster secrets that we also shan't ask about, of Karak Eight Peaks, the recently reclaimed hold with a bunch of unknown ancient treasure and knowledge, will recharge Anvil Runes for a reasonable favor."

Now it sounds practically respectable, after I insinuate without actually saying there's Golden Age knowledge involved, rather than a mirror-box with a sliced-up warp-entity. :D

Money in Character Sheet
Personal Wealth: 1,518 Stirland gold crowns, 114 Reikland gold crowns, 861 K8P gold coins, 116 K8P silver ingots, 1,350 Kislev gold ducats. Owes 2000 gold coins to Borek Forkbeard of Karag Dum.
Each ingot is worth 60 Dwarven silver coins / 3 Dwarven gold coins / 78 Empire shillings / 3.9 Empire crowns

Adding to others' comments:
Additionally, due to deep personal experience, she may reroll a single die on failed attempts to dispel necromantic or Waaagh magic.
I thought in Warhammer wargames there's a "never ever reroll already rerolled die" rule/design principle? Or is it only case in 40k, not in Fantasy or this Warhammer Armies project?

Also, on topic of Holds and minor Holds - Karak Drazh was a major hold, not a vassal of K8P? And what political relationship did it have with K8P back before the fall?
Of course if Karak Drazh would be reclaimed in the quest, its relationship with reclaimed K8P would be built almost from scratch, but dwarfs would probably apply legal situation of the past to the present to some extent.

Drazh was a major hold, yes. One step below High King.

We can't get boxcars every time, or it won't be special anymore. Also, people will start wondering if someone bribed Xon to fiddle with the odds.
True, and I am glad that the last boxcards happened with Karag Vlag, as much as we would have loved to get the books or the slave I think that getting Karag Vlag out of the Aethyr safely and that the demons decided to start killing among themselves was FAR, FAR, FAR, more important

I really wanna know how Mathilde justifies the nut to herself. Just dropping a grand on a random magical knickknack that a dark elf is totally trying to cheat her with. She has no real reason to believe she's not being scammed.

I kind of hope it is a con and Boneym is cackling with glee over scamming the thread for a joke item.
If she thought it was a scam, she would have said so in the previous post.

Yes, it's a gamble, but it's one with good odds and a potential for a strong payoff.
