[X] Plan to set up EIC gunpowder production in Stirland

Less supply lines, and K8P has sewers and plenty of space for infrastructure.

Edit:

Its not illegal today? <Shrug> Perhaps youre right.

... Although im quite sure the dawi would recast any coinage theyd aquire from umgi maybe.

Bt dwarf coins are also an accepted tender (and is worth more), so it's more "upcycling" than removal from circulation

Yeah. That was a thing going through my head even as I said that. "But hmm, no, that's probably not right -- it'd probably have a date somewhere. I guess it's just because I'm thinking of Roman numerals that I'm thinking this."

Maybe? Not sure what the Roman SC thing is, but neat if true.
The SC thing is something the Romans did to some of their coins that were not made of pure metals, basically meaning "Senate approved", so people would be confident they were actually worth money.

I based Tylos' coins on early Greek ones, which didn't seem to ever have more than a few letters. From my (admittedly brief) research, it seems like dates on coins didn't really become a thing until cast coinage, and Tylos' coins are hammered.
Interesting. That's fair, although I will point out, cast coinage is very old IRL, so it's entirely possible for Tylos to hammer some of their coins and cast others.

Actually, how does the Empire make their coinage? I assume hammered.

So it's definite that Skaven are capable of learning constructive and positive behaviours. I wonder, how would the Loremasters of other Karaks react to that knowledge?
They would not care. They already know Skaven are not naturally evil, King Kazador Thunderhorn remarks on this in the infamous update with broodmothers. The fact something does not start out as evil doesn't matter when the entire society is hell bent on beating it out of them and there is an overwhelmingly powerful nearly all knowing figure correcting any major deviancy from this mold. We have already went over the "Let us save the Skaven" and it is, at the current level, a problem with no solution.

EDIT: Also, Thaggoraki have most likely an outstanding grudge against them as a kind anyway, much like Urks. I like dwarfs, i really do, but they are by their very metaphysical nature very unflexible and ignoring grudges gives them anxiety.

So, the Horned Rat was worshipped in some capacity for years before the end arrived. That makes a great deal of sense as something to change in the story; the doom of kazvar survived to the modern day as a morality tale about not trusting weird strangers or shirking devotion to the gods but to reach said modern day it presumably had to pass through many tribal oral historians who didn't care all that much for instilling the lesson of "don't trust your leaders and gods, they may betray you". It also makes a lot more sense that someone built a ritual tower to specifcations than that they stumbled across one that only needed minor alterations. It's also quite fitting that the skaven began with the betrayal of a people who had been raised to trust their betrayer as a god worthy of monuments.

In Old World Armoury, pg. 113, there are the Tilean Talents, which are recognized as the oldest known human-made currency in the Old World. They were golden rectangles that were each equivalent to the value of a cow, and they had grooves on them so they could be cut into half- and quarter talents.

I'd really like to set up in K8P. Stronger trade ties means stronger relations, and producing gunpowder in K8P synergizes nicely with the gunnery school. Plus, it would finally put us back on track to do another councilor's task for them collaborate with characters who have had far too little screentime as of late. And remember how Belegar hated our last present in the dragon altar? Gunpowder production is a lot less objectionable!

[X] Plan to set up EIC gunpowder production in Karak Eight Peaks

I wonder how often some genius academic makes the incredible discovery that there's a species of technologically advanced beastmen living beneath the Empire, only to end up an extremely disappointed victim of censorship and "yes, everyone who mattered knew all along".

And I wonder how many of these discoveries will come from Qrech's students investigating him and his wild tales!
That would be fun if we get an omake about one of his wild eyed students or rival academics bursting through the door of Mathilde's tower shouting for the author after tracking Qrech down like a stubborn mule and if it interrupt Mathilde's date or sleep at the time, big yikes!

Looking at what's remaining from the social vote, I'm guessing the Elder Hluodwica and (presumed) Panoramia sections will be paired, which certainly makes sense.

The situation between Wilhelmina and Eike seems not entirely great, but I don't know that we have much leverage to help. I wonder if part of the problem is that Eike is only getting to see the boring officer manager part of her grandmother. Not so much the side of her that has this trait:

Pistolier: Wilhelmina is never seen without at least four pistols on her person. Recently she's replaced them with Dwarven revolvers.

Or if Eike is a Shallyan, maybe the problem is the opposite. (Pacifist trait, you lurking in Eike's sheet?)

Luckily, our tower is fortified haha.

If we could trust Qrech not to run away or do other stupid Skaven things I'd be tempted to slap together an enchanted item of Doppelganger for him so he could meet fellow academics in person in Karak 8 Peaks. Sadly, we can't.

The funny thing is that if someone asked Mathilde where Qrech is, she could answer "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" and it wouldn't be wrong.

Awww, Qrech. I like him so much.

One point of confusion:
When you arrive at your scheduled meeting to catch up with Wilhelmina, you're surprised to see a second person waiting for you, and doubly surprised that it's a girl of perhaps eight, dark hair in a neat ponytail and her simple yellow dress only slightly marred by inkstains. "Mathilde," Wilhelmina says, "I'd like to introduce you to my granddaughter, Eike Hochschild."
Here, in 2482.5, Eike is "perhaps eight."
"She's ten, she's supposed to be an adult now, but she's nowhere near where she should be. Her tutors say she's getting there, but I half-suspect they're just saying that so I don't fire them. She seemed so bright when I adopted her."
Here, three years later (2485.5) Wilhelmina says she's ten. Probably Mathilde is just bad at ages and she was seven the first time we met her, but I wanted to bring this to authorial attention in case it was an error.

Tangentially, with all this buildup regarding god identity mixups happening in the background of the quest, I'm going to insist that we infiltrate the cult that's growing in Talabecland next turn. We need eyes on that.

Maybe we should spend more social actions with Eike, helping her along and get herself settled. Her grandma isn't ancient yet, but she's not getting any younger and their responsibilities are only increasing.

Can anyone tell me who is Sleek Sharpwit?

Warlord of Clan Mors before Queek Headtaker in canon, in quest he was the warlord that was commanding Clan Mors when we took back K8P, presumed killed by the Eshin that ran off.

In addition, he held the post as Second in Command of Clan Mors and Right Claw of Lord Gnawdwell in the generation before Queek Headtaker. When he got old and perhaps a little bit too cunning and powerful, Gnawdwell replaced him with Queek and Skaven society as a whole forgot about him. Eventually Queek killed him. Ironically, I think only the Dwarves and their book of grudges still remember him in the time of canon Warhammer. OH, and his murderer, Sleeks head still has pride of place on Queeks trophy rack and the madrat occasionally thinks he gets advice from his skull.

It is quite a tragic tale. Not one the Council of Thirteen would tell you.

@BoneyM, so did Mathilde now piece together that the people of Tylos worshipped what became the GHR after hearing Cython's thoughts on it, or is that realization thread-only?

adulthood ceremony happening at 10 is canon
Is this for Stirland or the Empire at large?
The other two make sense, but what does the military even do with someone who neither fits into their basic equipment nor is able to lift weapons, let alone the whole supply backpack?

In general, Wilhelmina raised two children already. So her expectations in Eike can't just be those of a clueless CEO with no family. Or did she mostly neglect her sons at that age?
Looks like the pages about the quickening? So there's no fixed age it's based around when the child in question reaches puberty... That's kind of nuts.
I wouldn't expect your average Imperial Human to start puberty at around 10. Nutrition is far too bad for that.

I don't think Dwarves do the whole nature vs nurture divide thing regarding morality. They'd more be of the "of course all your moral value comes from your ancestors and yet you're still completely responsible for all your sins" viewpoint. Hell, with Dwarves you're even responsible for your father's sins and if your father was mentally unwell that's an even bigger black mark on you rather than an excuse.
Not that human authorities if this age saw things very differently.
I'm reasonably sure it's already known to at least some that the Skaven aren't inherently evil- look at Kazador's comments back when we found the rat-mothers. So I don't think it'd really come as a surprise that a Skaven isolated from their toxic culture would show positive changes.
I'm curious how Kazador learned that and how this theory got its first evidence.
@BoneyM Do our Dwarven books on the Skaven say anything about Dwarves encountering their children or are Kazador's sources more obscure as far as Mathilde knows?
So are Hysh elementals not a thing? Or is there some other reason Cython can't hunt and or eat them?
Are Wind Elementals a naturally occurring species at all? I thought that they are pretty much only encountered when summoned.
If it were actual Greek numbers and it was LZ instead of ZL it would be 37. ZL is not a number.
