I am definitely coming down on the side of "safe passage and supplies".

It encourages a continuing business relationship, but it doesn't start a war that the Expedition will get caught up in. (Though frankly, the Dolgan may get the idea to raid the Yusak while the Yusak are distracted by the expedition all on their own.)

Hmm, still, conflict in the region is better for us. They can't exactly go and chase us head on, we have better logistics overall. And roaming bands of kurgan looking for easy pickins won't be so stupid to face a dragon head on I think.

If Mathilde seeks to make contact with the Yusak, she can't safely fly into Yusak territory, so would have to ride. The Dolgan would know she went out of her way to speak to the Yusak. This would colour any future attempts to reach an accord with the Dolgan.

Hmmm. My current thoughts are to negotiate for safe passage and supplies from the Dolgan - I've been convinced that having another agreement to supplement safe passage will make it less likely for the Dolgan to renege, and having an agreement for safe passage and supplies for ~2/3rds of our Chaos Wastes route makes our odds of success skyrocket.

I'm very much inclined to not stir up conflict in the region, though - the Yusak probably aren't the tribe we want to grab the item from, and weakening them means strengthening the Kul.

Ideally, I'd like to go scout the Dum vicinity next turn, negotiate for safe passage from the Yusak too, and if the opportunity presents itself pry them further away from Chaos.

Both these look like they could be profitable. The discussion has convinced me that safe passage alone is too cheap to renege on from their PoV and I'm curious about the Yusak. There is at least an outside chance they really are turning apostate.

Weird. I wonder if the Yusak might be looking to wonder down south, and barter for it with the whatever-the-item-is by trading it to the Kislevites in exchange.

That's of course assuming it's the Yusak rather than Kul that have the item. But it would mean that the reason the Ice Witches were cagey about the precise answer, is because "We're negotiating to get them to break from the Chaos Marauders and join us instead..." which would be a good reason to be cagey about when talking to an Imperial like Mathilde.

In that case, I wouldn't want to start an attack on the Yusak. More chaos and uncertainty, and a lot more armies going around everywhere where we might run into them. But also, even asides from all that... What would it cost? To get a tribe to attack another tribe, what would we pay them with? If it were another mini-quest or obligation or whatever, I dunno...

Just realized I forgot to include some general knowledge Mathilde would know, and edited in: "the Kul... you don't know their current state, but about 180 years ago their leader Asavar united the Kurgans and was anointed as Everchosen, sparking the Great War Against Chaos"

Looks at this.

People... can we not sour relations with the Dolan for a egg in the bush.

Summary of thoughts:

[ ] Only seek passage for the Expedition

Too easy to renege. If we're doing this we might as well try to blitz the convoy through and deal with fighting through them on the way back if they realize.

[ ] Seek passage and supplies for the Expedition

Incentive provided for fair dealing, they get metals, we get a more stable food supply for the 200 apex predators from the local herds, otherwise foraging would mean fighting the Dolgan anyway, theres no way they won't defend their herds from foraging knights and Imperial knights are hardly likely to care about claims of ownership by chaos worshipping barbarians.

[ ] Seek passage, supplies, and for the Dolgan to attack the Yusak

Actively make our journey riskier. War would risk drawing in the Kul, and potentially the attention of "higher powers" if anyone decides to get dramatic about a scuffle.

[ ] Seek passage, supplies, and to purchase the service of Dolgan mercenaries

We have an order of Chaos hating holy warriors with us. Adding a tribe of chaos worshippers as auxillaries working with them is big brain idea.

[ ] Do not seek any accord with the Dolgans

Somewhat wasted time. Safe option though.

[ ] Seek to make contact with the Yusak instead

...or, if we aren't making a deal, why not check out the Yusak with our time?

"They're gonna be hella fucking distracted in about six months time..." would do the trick.
