People remember; say no to Chaos.

Paying Chaos worshippers is not a good idea. Now if we had time to settle down in the area and work on turning them away from Chaos it might be a decent idea to have some working relationship. But this looks like to be a lone deal so not a good idea. Which is why I will not vote for anything more than safe passage.

Chaos worshipers are not Daemons and paying would only cost us a little gold. The Karaz Ankor is practically swimming in gold. Blood is a far scarcer resource.

Interesting. The safest option is going to be Safe passage, even if the dawi grumble about it, those are our tactics, not theirs.

Still, the best way to do this would be to cause as much mayhem as possible.

Using Skaven Logic, we have three players here. Three is peace, between Dolgans, Yusak and Kul. A fourth player, the expedition, will either cause a feeding, if they are disunited, or a war, if all of them ally against us.

We need to flip the table beforehand and prevent anything from happening against us. Take the initiative and not let them think. So, we need these ones to attack the Yasuk. That will leave us to contend with the Kul, who might just simply jump into finishing off the Yasuk if we could help it.

With two fighting, the Kul will either try to attack the heavy armored convoy of metal bawkses, kittybrids, wolves and an stupendous amount of mages per capita... or attack some of the other two.

Yes, we shall try to make them fight each other. It is the most optimal choice towards our goals.

Apocrypha threadmark "Do and Do Not" has somehow gone into one of those weird Threadmark states again.

Going forward from "Egrimm van Horstmann, Hero of the Empire" you can only reach "Meanwhile, in BorekQuest". Going backward from BorekQuest, you can only reach Hero of the Empire.

If starting at "Do and Do Not", it appears as the last threadmark in Apocrypha (even though BorekQuest should be ahead of it). Going backwards from it you can reach Hero of the Empire; but you can't return to it, because Hero of the Empire goes directly to BorekQuest.

So, another one of those weird Threadmark things, where one of the entries is sort of... 'shadowed' or skipped over or dead-ended.

Deleted and readded it and and the problem transferred to Egrimm, deleted and readded that and now it's on Ship Names 2. Bloody hell.

[ ] Only seek passage for the Expedition

Either this or nothing in my opinion.

Minimal engagement with a chaos faction please.
Fighting them is just marginally worse than paying for passage. We could sell them Tea, rather than give them gold?

I am for safe passage and supplies. Safe passage doesn't seem like enough to get for the risk and information given. Supplies is.

Also we have seen that dwarfs can be very good at resolutely ignoring things. If we hint at things and imply that we have charmed the tribes then it becomes Zuff stuff which they are going to ignore.

It's kind of a moot point since anyone with an Anvil of Doom has enough status to shield themselves from immediate consequences of that sort of 'misuse', but yeah, it's not the sort of thing the Guild of Runesmiths would be happy with if you put them in a situation where they couldn't pretend not to see it.
If it's such a contentious issue that borders on blasphemy, how come Kragg chose to use that specific Rune on a bunch of Umgi in the first place? Force of habit in the moment of heat? Also, isn't Kragg so traditionalist that he'd beat himself up about it? Or is he of the "I can't do wrong" kind of arrogant old ass?

Agreed with Skaven numerology.
3 is peace.

4 finds the weakest and eats, or is two 2s.

2 is war.

Yasuk is in the way. We shall be rumbling into them.

If=Yasuk, Dolgan, Us
Then PEACE

If=Yasuk, Dolgan, Kul, Us
Then Consume Yasuk

If=Yasuk, Kul AND Dolgan, Us
two 2s, war

If=Yasuk, Dolgan AND Kul, Us
two 2s, war

we should point Dolgan towards underbelly of Yasuk. We are traveling on the holy pilgrimage. We will rumble into Yasuk. We will rumble into Kul.
If Yasuk devoured
Dolgan, Kul, Us = Peace

this involves no misdirection, nor scheme. It is straightforward intel exchange. It is not slaughter. It is not stagnation. It is not excess. This is good.

Well'p. =/ Sorry about that. I'm not even sure what to do if deleting and re-adding doesn't work. That seemed to have worked last time.

It also kind of messed with the order of things though; it should be Egrimm, Do and Do Not, and then BorekQuest.

Currently, it's Lore of -> Ship Names 2 -> BorekQuest -> Egrimm, Hero of the Empire -> Do and Do Not.

It's entirely possible it was the first time he's ever used an Anvil of Doom on a battlefield where there were any friendly non-Dwarven forces. Either that or he just got carried away. He's not exactly big on talking about his feelings so it's not known how he feels about it.

Keeping in mind that:
-Kurgans don't necesssarily worship Chaos out of piety. Not openly worshipping Chaos to some extent would get them about as dead as an Imperial tribe openly worshipping Chaos. Propiatory worship is common.
-We're sending a convoy containing 200 apex predators. A local supply source would make the margins a lot less tight if we lose a vehicle along the way.
-We cannot trust them in combat, if we encounter a Chaos champion there's even odds they'd flip right there.
-Starting a tribal war would be a mixed bag because its so chaotic. Possible negative outcomes include:
--Both tribes skirmish. All tribes in the area are at heightened alert when we pass through, none of them are dead.
--One tribe is forced out, causing all the local tribes to rearrange postures and raid freely.

So I'm inclined to take supplies because after our recruiting we really badly need supplies, and free passage. OR just don't interact further and recon the wider area by making contact with the weakened tribe(note, weakened tribe would be more desperate for any advantage)

Rearranged them in the list and it seems to have stopped any from being skipped over, but it also seems to have shuffled around the order of earlier threadmarks. Since it doesn't seem to have actually made any sequential ones out of order I'm going to leave it at that and hope it doesn't break any worse.

Your host seems to relax slightly. "I am a Shaman of the Dolgan Tribes. I serve the Untamed of the Eight."

"I am a Shaman of the Mountain Ring Clans. I serve the Shadowed of the Eight. I travel from the west and will travel to the south."
Wait, what? Did Mathilde know that there are mono-wind worshippers among the Kurgan? Was that mentioned in the book(s) she has on the subject? Or did she just improvise on that part?
He nods. "You came through the mountains? The proud Kul are to the north of the mountains, their claim stretches all the way to the Blessed Lands. Dolgan land stretches to the Tea Road. Between Tea Road and Dwarf-Land is the Iron Wolf Tribes, who serve an Old One. East are the Kvelliges and Khazags, and north are the Yusak, who have lost favour with the Four and seek lands further from them."
I didn't quite understand the relative geographic relation between the proud Kul and the Yusak.
Safe passage seems like a good bet, it is a minimal accord that does not require us interacting with the tribe, quite the opposite. Anything more is a no go IMO.
It's also the easiest and most lucrative deal to renege on. All other deals demand continued positive relations for continued pay. Safe passage allows for them to be paid and then to see whether our caravan is worth raiding or not the same as they would have done anyway, except with less emotion involved to push them into an disadvantageous fight.

@BoneyM am I right to assume that most Kurgan don't have a hate boner against all the forces of Order and generally just see them as 100% acceptable targets?

Ignore or negotiate passage i think.
Yes, extra food might be nice, extra soldiers would be great, and sending them of to murder some other tribe might be convenient.
But i'm not really comfortable dealing with them, too much that can go wrong, i doubt they will have a huge impact on our military capacity at this point, i assume/hope the expedition already has sufficient food, and i'm not comfortable starting a war when i don't know what is going on.

The fact that Yasuk might or might not be friendly is irrelevant.

Chaos and conflict will divert attention away from us. I'm not going to compromise the expedition's chances on the the potential of an enemy not being as much of an asshole as they could be.

So I shall vote to generate chaos, because that is how Mathilde thrives. All our battles are gained through chaos in enemy lines. We shall do the same here.

The Warp contains all potential stories, be they canon or not. It is also chaos incarnate. Expecting that you can control it; put its stories in convenient Order? Hubris!

Threadmarks are like the Winds. To wield them, you must become like them. You must become a threadmark, Boney.

Yes, the books lay out the Kurgan cosmology: one sun, two moons, four Gods, eight Winds. All are worshipped.

Kul are west of the Yusak.

Pretty much, same as they see everyone. It's only when an Everchosen arises that they get brought under one banner and pointed south, and even then they often get so riled up that the northernmost tribes start hacking through more southern tribes instead of recruiting them.

Agreed. Either go for supplies, or move on. Safe passage alone lets them know we're coming through but with no incentive to uphold the deal.

I mean right there they clearly find each other a perfectly good raiding targets.

The main reason they'd be raiding the Order nations would be:
-Order nations are settled civilizations. They have full on civilians where nomadic tribes do not have anyone who can't fight or ride to some extent. This marks them as easy prey, you just need to hit where the warriors aren't and at a less than 1 in 10 armsman ratio theres a LOT of places without enough warriors for the amount of loot.
-Order nations are rich. Metalwork, human resources, art, food, etc are all in abundance. Raiding a relatively poor Order village would easily be several times the profit of raiding another tribe.

And I'm arguing that that stance is immoral regardless of whether it is good realpolitik.

... Actually, that seems to have fixed it?

Navigating via the Forward and Backward arrows, it now seems to go:

Lore of -> Ship Names 2 -> Hero -> Do and Do Not -> BorekQuest

It is both fixed, and in the correct order. :)

Clicking once on the Apocrypha threadmark will look differently from that, but that's because just opening it like a folder like that, only shows the order that threadmarks were MADE in, not the order they are IN.

So yeah. That's why the click-once-on-threadmark-tab looks different from the "View All Threadmarks" version of things. The former is for telling you the order of when they were created. The latter is for telling you the order in which they are ordered and arranged.

Chaos and conflict would work like that if they were a settled civilization.

What kicking off a tribal war would likely do amongst nomads is trigger a lot of movement and testing of claims, which means we're a lot more likely to be interrupted and to face battle-ready Kurgans when we rob whichever tribe we choose.
