I'm really curious about the damsels, might as well go back to approval voting

[X] Plan: Fog Path to Success (Damsels and Rune smiths)
[X] PLAN: Chaos makes Taal feel peeved!

Personally, I'm 100% fine with perfectly balanced. I have a mild preference for Taal is Peeved, but both recruiting actions are fine with me.

I thought by this point we had enough firepower to risk a gamble on Damsels coming along, but... apparently people have a very different read of the situation than me re. interpersonal conflicts.

Shall approval vote :)

Edit: Oh, already did lol.

The bottom of @BoneyM 's latest threadmark "Turn 32 - 2485.5 - We'll Fight the Hordes, and Sing and Cry" says that there will be no serenity action.
So why do all the plans include a serenity action then?

And I want to start on the accursed Marks.
Of all things, why does this matter right now? Why is this more important for either the expedition or Mathilde's survival on it than that single scouting action? Or, barring that, why does it make narrative sense for this to be a priority for Mathilde right now, over anything else?

I am very tired of the Expedition- which I have wanted nothing to do with from the start, and nothing has occurred to change my mind- and the way it is so dominating our turns.
(And now we find out that the Expedition not dying to the last Dawi, and actually bringing back word from the apparantly-not-renegade-after-all Karak Dum might- potentially- be the worst outcome.)
So I made a plan with a few elements to please myself. That is all.
My regret would be that I don't have anything more positive to say.

Because getting occasional control over her shadow will let Mathide cause a comedic dichotomy between her words and the overdramatic movements of her shadow.

This would be fucking hilarious, and the fact we've not done it yet is a travesty.

(note... as I typed this, I'm kinda talking myself into wanting to do the shadow mark asap :p )

Oh, @picklepikkl, do you think it might be necessary to specify the always-on nature of the robes? We've talked about it a lot, but it isn't actually specified in the Perfectly Balanced vote.
"Persistent effect" was meant to communicate that we wanted it to be active as much as possible, even if always-on proves unworkable. Do people think that insufficiently specifies what we want?

Actually, more to the point: @BoneyM, was that how you read "persistent effect" before I made this post?

I was also extremely fine with your plan and taking a gamble on Damsels. I am still approval-voting yours and SSS's. The main reason I put my plan out yesterday morning was because I really liked the rest of your plan's outline, but I saw people voting for Light Wizards, and went "well, ok, there should be a Light Wizard variant of this plan." Did not expect it to do as well as it has!

He's going for the smoke mark though.

He's going for the smoke mark though.
A valid point was made upthread about all the smoke from the steam wagons, and the chance of foul chaos dust storms, and gunpowder blowback, etc. Just because the Expedition depresses and stresses me (f***ing Celestial Matriarch), doesn't mean there aren't actual reasons behind the choices.
I'd also rather Mathilde was the sort of person who didn't leave her (Magical) flaws unexamined, though I admit I've not pushed that agenda either.

Dunno. Failing to specify the Dragon Phlegm Flask as 'quick and simple to activate' or similar did have consequences.

I just think the dude did his best to meet as many of the requirements as possible. But it's fucking Battle Magic.

We know from our own attempts that enchanting has a element of chance in how it works.

Plus, BoneyM saying everything time it comes up that there are limits.

Hmmmm.

I would have though Mathilde would have a bit of a grudge against light wizards, what with sunscryer and being a grey and having a much more impressive dragon to compare them to...

But more importantly, I *like* that there are consequences to using a 20-favor destruction item, nominal as they may be. I *like* that we can't just buy our way out of all risk and complication, and I wish the fact that the enchanting magister almost killed himself making this got a bit more attention.

So I don't believe it was under-specified, I think that it was taken a bit too much for granted, and I'm happy with the outcome. A last resort weapon, indeed.

No, I would have read that as another way of saying 'always on'.

Dunno. Failing to specify the Dragon Phlegm Flask as 'quick and simple to activate' or similar did have consequences.

Specifying that would have simply meant that the drawbacks would be elsewhere. You can't put that much power in a man-portable container without it being unwieldy in some way.

I'm perfectly happy with the flask of fuck you and everything in your general direction, personally. It's got its drawbacks, sure, but none of them are crippling and it does exactly what we wanted.

you're momentarily blinded as the world before you transforms into fire.

After you collect yourself, you examine the site of the former stump as best you can as you wipe your streaming eyes and brush pieces of ash from your scorched eyebrows.
It seems very powerful. We might want to enchant/ask the dwarves to make some protective goggles.

Most other drawbacks would be preferable, especially performance tradeoffs.

If the enchanter had told us 'a 20 favor item will be crippled for your intended use case, get a 13 favor item of lower intensity' I would have been happy enough not to begrudge him keeping the extra 7 favor as a 'consultation fee'.

It's not like we can't afford it and I didn't think we needed it so I'm not too upset but I don't think Alliterate was wrong to say that failure to specify had consequences. It probably won't matter for the robes, of course.

And in a universe where it had been specified, I would at this very moment be fielding complaints about whatever the alternate drawback was.
