[X] Plan Perfectly Balanced

I guess I wouldn't mind rolling on the maybe-horseman gacha again. They could provide an interesting philosophical counterpoint, if they don't immediately blow up after their first scene with speaking lines.
The worshippers do not wholly share beliefs with their deity. Not even their champions.
Case in point:
  • One coin in ten belongs to Ranald.
    • Mathilde: *Hoards it all like her dragon neighbor*
  • Ranald frowns upon unnecessary violence.
    • Mathilde: *Laughs in Silver Savagery*
  • Live by wits, not by your sword.
    • Mathilde: *Relies upon single wit, rather than multiple wits; wit is moniker for excessively destructive greatsword*
  • A true devotee of Ranald uses the dagger and stiletto; only amateurs and the slow-witted need armour and long sword.
    • Mathilde: *Constantly wears armor at all times.* Also Mathilde: *Learns to wield longest sword available as soon as opportunity is presented*
  • It's better to live free and die, rather than suffer under oppression.
    • Mathilde: *Refuses to die*
  • There is no honour among thieves, yet trust in your brothers and sisters.
    • Mathilde: *Is honorable*
Mathilde's Ranald Score? SSS.

.... @BoneyM quick question for something that just poped into my mind.

Ranald's Coin, and the note from Ranald saying don't.

how cheeky would it be to study the 'Don't' Note instead of the Coin?

because technically its a divine touched object in of itself...

... did Ranld do that on propose to see if we would notice the loophole!!!

Alas, i have been ninjad, but @picklepikkl only did the diff for the library section, so my diff of the whole char sheet isn't completely superfluous in case anyone else was curious about other parts :p Diff Checker
Sorry! I didn't mean to steal your thunder, but you don't have the publicly-viewable "last active on" thing for your profile, so I didn't know if you were around or not to field the question, and your last activity before this was several hours ago.
My only complaint is going for the niter and gong farm when we've got flat out evidence of a building river war.
I mean, we didn't take more losses to river problems than usual this past period:
As you skim through the rest of the paperwork from the EIC, the results are plain to see: even though banditry has expanded significantly over the past few months, the EIC's losses have remained steady where everyone else's have increased significantly.
So we're doing just fine and not suffering. My expectation is, now that everyone else is taking heavier losses, they're going to start arming/protecting their ships as well, and so it'll be a bad time to be a bandit in general. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't expect the riverine piracy gambit to last much longer, and I don't expect to take a significant uptick in losses this turn even if we don't improve the navy. We should not overinvest in fighting the last war, especially when everyone else has a strong reason to invest in fighting it as well. Remember, we're not the only people with agency here.

Personally the reason I prefer the Damsels over the Light college is two things, first we've already done a general callout for the colleges. That naturally won't be as effective as a targeted recruitment pitch to a specific one. But there's an alright chance a Light will show up in Pragg regardless right now, so I feel more free to look into other options. Second Mathilde has already had a couple of indirect brushes with Bretonnian institutions (Passing along word of the Skaven civil war through Algard, Lecture) providing a enough of a jumping off point that it seems interesting and relevant enough to try to build from secondhand exposure into some actual contacts.

Because nobody but Mathilde is smart enough to take advantage of the more available high quality gunpowder, no sirree.
Not the EIC, independent merchants and their guards, and definitely not river patrols of the empire.
Its a drop in the ocean of supply. The independents may buy it, but most river ships don't HAVE guns to use powder in. We do, but thats by leveraging our own connections

I have no desire to chase after Damsels when we have zero connections with them, and a bunch of conflicts. We would be better off trying to convince the local dragon to come along.

Well, time to invest in some guns then. :V
It's not our job to solve the river piracy problem, and i don't want to use AP to do it when there are more important long term stuff to accomplish, like helping secure powder supply for Karaz Ankor and/or the Empire.

Thats fair enough to have different priorities. Just, please don't dismiss other valid concerns in the process.

After all, the powder and niter need to be delivered

Well the people doing deliveries can buy some guns and, you know, powder, while at the dwarves.
We are not in charge of daily operations, let's assume that people who are know what they are doing.

The thing about the concern about doing anything at all not directly involved with fighting piracy, is that it is not our job to fight piracy.
And the factory does help fighting piracy, it might not be instant panacea, but having the empire have cheaper, or atleast more reliable, powder available means they now have extra budget to use on other stuff, hopefully fighting piracy will be one of those things as i assume the people in charge are not complete morons and know what Marienburg is doing.

Am I the only one super excited about the sword style? I'm not sure why, but just imagining how to use a Greatsword that can appear and disappear at demand, in the hands of some who can teleport, empowered with runic might that makes even slow strikes hit with full force(pommel strikes anyone?) , sounds absolutely metal . I've been wanting to see it for awhile.

She could troll people so hard too. Wouldn't just dropping the sword on someone crush them to death? If she wanted to fuck with people I can imagine some loony toon style shenanigans where she teleports in by the duckinglings, asks an orc to hold her sword and passes it to him in a way that totally crushes him, and oops out.

Also, with regards to the Gong Farm, the reason I've been advocated for that to be scaled up since I got caught up (like 2 weeks ago) is a fact maybe a lot of readers have forgttoen. Here is the relevant quote:
Negotiations are straightforward. The Dwarven Empire has access to as much sulfur as they could ever use, being part of pyrite and gypsum as well as common in volcanically active areas. Charcoal is similarly abundant - the dwarves trade with humans for wood and mine for coal. The limiting factory on the amount of gunpowder they can make is niter. It can very rarely be mined in the form of cubic niter, but the most common source is biological, chiefly guano from bat caves. But this close to Sylvania, hunting for bat caves is a terrifying and often deadly proposition, and elsewhere in the World's Edge Mountains there are equal or even greater terrors that call caves homes. So to have a source of niter that costs them gold instead of blood is a fantastic boon. And the price they offer you makes you think
Here, a high up official in the Zhufbar Engineers guild admits that the biggest bottle neck on Dwarven Gunpowder is niter crystal. So, basically all of the Empire's waste has potential massive value in both coin, and more relevant, in defending all the lands of man and Dwarf. And it's totally untapped in the EIC area of operation. We're the only ones doing it, and we're doing it at Dwarven quality, and we've kept it to like a small section of Stirland for over a decade. We have the Dwarf favor to expand it and the reputation to negotiate the sale and distribution from human lands to Dwarven holds at Dwarven quality.

@picklepikkl and @Vebyast thanks for the search tips! Came in handy already.

I'm excited, but a lot of what you mention in the second part is probably not going to make it in, at least in the start. What the sword style might look initially would be what I call Flicker style, where the sword is present 99% of the time during combat. The exceptions would be small, instantaneous flickers (hence the name) when Mathilde teleports the sword in and out of her hand for a brief moment. An example would be when someone's raised an arm to block. Before the sword hits the arm, Mathilde flickers it on and off, such that it doesn't connect and appears to have passed through the arm to hit the foe directly.

Styles which involve more teleportation shenanigans than that are likely to take more AP directed at their creation.

Ah yeah, I don't think that'd happen in general just because its off-tone with this quest, but I thought it was a funny enough to mention. Matty generally trolls with wit or pun, not slapstick. Still funny picturing it in my head though.

I think one of the big things about the stay is just how much... it's not a sword style? If that makes sense? Sword styles are all about how best to wave that chunk of metal in front of you.

Like, the limits of movement are just.. fehhh and that might take some wrapping her head around.

Like for example, is there a point to a forward thrust over just sticking her hand out and making the sword appear.... it would be like stabbing someone at the speed of a bullet.

And like, do you do big swings? Letting the opponent think they are going to block it before making disappear and reappear around their block... or is that a waste of time? If mathy instead keeps things tight and instead uses the disappearing as a way to cut momentum between attacks and change hand Positions: she will be able to chain attacks at speeds And directions that are not possible no matter have fast or skilled you are otherwise. (Because she won't have a big bit of metal on a focoum to wave around)

Like I did a bit of fencing in college and a bit of historical sword fighting (had friends that where extras in Vikings and Game of Thrones and wanted to give it a try but was to lazy by the end,) and... just the difference there would be if you could just not deal with the negatives of that big bit of metal getting in the way is mind boggling.
