I very much doubt anything will ever get us out of our vow of poverty.
But, seriously, do you have any plans for what to tell the bursar if we tried?
I guess i should have specified "without the order deciding they want us dead."

If we manage to become the first rainbow-magister,(no, I will never give up on Quaysh, no matter how much we get shadowdrenched) we may be able to convince people to let us out of it due to technically belonging in a brand new school. We'll be the de facto strongest human magician, and if we have a good record and sufficient backing, it may be enough to make people go "just give her what she wants, not doing so will cost us more in the long run, plus she is certainly not using dhar anyway and she has proven her virtue"

Pretty sure becoming a Black Magister means the vow of poverty no longer applies to you.
On the contrary, becoming a Black Magister means you're now under an absolute vow of poverty regardless of which order you were in before. This new vow is enforced by freelance adventurers, AKA "kill her and loot the body". Adventurers can be very thorough about taking all your stuff. They will loot things you probably didn't even think were lootable.

Look, the correct term is "Ranaldite".

This is a civilised forum, we don't use slurs like murderhobo or adventurer here.

You are mischaracterizing him. All he wants is that we specifically make this request after the College gets involved with the Waystone thing, which he expect to happen in the next couple of turns.
No i am not, because i am not characterizing him.
I'm pointing out the quite possible outcome, as has happened before.

My main problem with the Great Library is that it will make no real difference in Mat's lifetime. It's the kind of thing that will matter if the Empire is burned to the ground again, or the Colleges are expelled, or there are more riots and crusades against knowledge.

But for the most part it will just be our own library, just a bit bigger, more accessible, better funded and longer lived.

I don't like that. A transcendental boon should not be spent on a library we can set up ourselves, or Wheel and Deal for.

I think we can set up a Library kind of thing for Umgi without spending a Transcendental Boon. You spend that on a library, and the dwarves will still be collecting and maintaining books in centuries. But it won't make much of a difference right now, or soon, except to attract some poor scholars willing to make the trip.

Like, you know what you should measure this against? Another tower like the Eye of Gazul.

Imagine making something like that, if with less dwarven hellfire, in Black Fire Pass?

Built atop the Booming Peak? It would close the pass and safeguard the south of the Empire from the Badlands like nothing else.

To be honest the idea of making another Eye just somewhere else is profoundly unsatisfying to me from a narrative point of view. It feels like cheapening it, turning it from wonder and symbol to another weird weapon.

We don't need a boon to build another doomtower in any area that is controlled by K8P, and we should not be building doomtowers anywhere that isn't.
Keeping it as a get out of jail free card has a danger of never using it and making it eat Belegar from the inside. (and what are people expecting to do to need it anyway?)
There are very real limits on what Belegar can deliver that we would want, and not be able to get anyway.

Library, is a big ass thing that Mathilde can use the boon for that we could not get without the boon, atleast not at the size lot of us are picturing.
Runeclad dreadnaught would be another decent big ass thing not easily gained, but also kinda unnecessary and expensive enough to potentially harm K8P.

You know? I think I'm going to relax on the boon not winning this turn, because even if we don't use it this time, the option that will win (wait until more money) is worded to mean that Mathy does plan to use it then. So people can't just keep putting it off, because putting it off or saving it for a rainy day are options and they are not winning.

next time it comes up we will have to vote for something, so I win in the long run anyways. 😁

Changing the Boon vote, I think the library is fine and don't fancy discussing this for months on end

sounds great, to bad hording is going to win for the foreseeable future so we arn't even going to get to the stage to argue for this...
I will point out that there are a huge number of voters who aren't very vocal in the thread, so any projection about what would actually be chosen is pretty much guesswork.

That said, my preference is to wait on using the boon until an idea comes up which would be worthy of it. I'm not terribly enthused by the library, and do not like the boat idea. I would not be opposed to trying to set up a branch college, or formal outpost... in 10 years or so. Too much to do before then.

[x] [WE] Hunt the Mountains
[x] [WE] Scavenge the Gauntlet
I'm happy with either of these. I don't really want the We's hunters going all the way out into the Badlands, and do think that letting them keep hunting at least a bit would be good.

[x] [BOON] I have no idea what to spend it on. Put the matter aside for now.

I prefer to leave it be for now, until things settle a little.

Some things should be secure, but the Treasury is kinda inconveniently far away.
[x] [ROOM] Provision Room
Need enough food for doggo.

Worth having just in case. Not likely to be needed, but...

Because doggo. If that isn't sufficient reason, I don't want to know you. :p

I don't feel like having a bunch of Longbeards yell at Gotri right now...

Honestly, my main concern for the future is potentially having to talk Belegar out of doing something that might split the Karaz Ankor. Though, we might not need the Boon to manage that.

It'd be a risk. The thing with putting up a tower like that is that any mage who can use Burning Shadows can use it to kill tens of thousands of people at once, if conditions line up right. That's the whole point, and is a major potential security risk without a lot of safeguards. There's reduced risk at 8 Peaks, stemming from a lack of interest from Chaos Cultists, our presence, Gazul's attention, etc, but the farther north you go, the greater the risk of somebody using the tower that you wouldn't want to.

(Also, doing this required a steel pillar through the whole mountain. The only reason this was doable here is that Karag Nar has already been dug out)

I am looking forward to what is going to be in the vaults. I don't know if Boney will be like Torroar but some elgi artifacts would be valuable. Not just for magic studies but also if we want to sell or gift them to the elgi.

I mean, whatever is in there isn't stuff we're getting, though Belegar might ask us to look at some of it depending.

I don't get the 'preserve the We culture' arguments cause what culture is there to preserve? The sort of hunter gather one? The how they act 'naturally' in the wild? Because if so that culture is already going to be overwritten since we voted to keep the We and not have them return to the wild.

We should make sure to leave behind a will with a default boon in case we die unexpectedly. Would not want to leave him hanging.
