Hmm. Boon thought:

Eight Peaks becomes the melting pot of the Old World, where any race (even elves) are legally allowed to reside as long as they follow Karak law (so not orcs or anything Chaos, obviously, but basically anyone else). An extension of the "Sanctuary for wizards" idea.

We can't solve the elf-dwarf problem, not by a long shot, but this can be a first step.

Actually, I'm thinking half of elves, half of skaven. Making a place where the extremely rare non-evil skaven can seek refuge and not expect to be killed on sight sounds nice.

Whether any of this is actually in character for Mathilde is another matter, I'll admit, but I really wanna see it.

There's always becoming a submarine operator, a career that's considered even worse than being a Slayer for Dwarfs. If we could make the Nautilus more reliable and capable of longer dives, a long term tour of duty on one might serve as a worthwhile substitute.
If we could convince every failed dwarf soldier to become an artillarist instead that would be good. Or really anything in Morgrims portfolio.

While it'd probably be a bad idea to interfere with the ability for dwarves to become slayers, isn't it perfectly fine to make efforts so that dwarfs in the danger zone have resources tailored to reducing 'unnecessary' slayer oaths being sworn; I thought that was the whole point of Karak Kadrin's grudge therapists?

There's, like, two of those, and a hundred times their number willing to pretend if it'll let them kill more people. Pretty much every actual defector can only be handled on a case by case basis, because anything else means they can turn their infinite numbers into infinite attempted infiltrators.

I'm pretty sure that non-evil Skaven are rare and isolated enough that the chances of them ever getting to help and being believed are basically nil, even if they could they would still have to be kept as prisoners for live because of their soul deep bond to the Horned Rat, worrying about non-evil Skaven is like worrying about the possibility of blizzards in Nehekara.

They do, though. They've got them. They're called Nautiluses.

They're not used much, but Dwarves wouldn't build them if they were death traps. (Actually, young dwarves do sign up to serve aboard them as an alternative to Slayerdom, according to the wiki, though).
Clearly Slayers need to take up on battlefield weapons testing!

The enemies will want to kill the new doodads so Slayers get to fight, the experiment weapons get more rigor's testing, and some third thing that is also a benafit.

... I am of course kidding if it was possible to do such a thing and have it count as an honorable death I'm pretty sure that the dwarfs would have done it already.

If you die, was a good weapon, or a bad one?

So, I'd like to point out that now the Karak is safe, there are a lot of unoccupied mountains, and we have the favors to get our own college. We'd want to put the college away from the other occupied areas, say, in Karag Mhonar. And like the College of Sorcery is named after another kind of magic, we'd want to name our college along those same lines; in this case Torrentcrafting would be a fine choice, after the Dwarf word for magic. So with only a few favors, we could become the head of the Mhonrar Institute of Torrentcrafting, MIT, if you would.

We just need to have Qrech write and publish a series of stories about the adventures of a dual wielding Skaven.
In no time, the entire race will become surface dwellers, rebelling against an under-empire that no longer exists.

Been thinking about the boon more, and I keep coming back to the wish for positive change. Abelheim wished for it first, and Mathilde repeated his words to his grave as I recall. Kragg the Grim refined it. The world changes all the time, but he wishes to finally see positive change.

Karak Eight Peaks may be the single largest, most impactful positive change worldwide if it works out. I would see it in the same ballpark as Magnus founding the Colleges of Magic. If it heralds a revival of the dwarven race, (not likely, but plausible) then it may be even more significant. I don't want to take away resources from that. In fact, if Mathilde happened to receive a similar boon from another group, I'm fairly certain that many would vote to spend it to help the dwarves. Some posters have already been arguing to spend speculative elven favour to mend their relationship.

I think it would be entirely in character for Mathilde to tell Belegar that the biggest favour she could receive would be for him to remain a force of careful, deliberate, and most importantly positive change. The most important way he can do that is by ensuring the success of K8P, which will have so many consequences it seems ridiculous.

Basically, he should dedicate himself to the path already taken. Don't be radical for the sake of being radical, but don't exclude things just because the are not traditional. It should not obviously cost him everything, but asking a King to dedicate his life to something is exactly the kind of favour I'd call transcendent.

She is a Grey wizard and a Ranald worshipper, a hidden library/shrine and a modest bust of herself will do. Let the god to the testing of future prospects.
A Grey Wizard/Ranald thing to do would be to hide Mathilde in various images. Dwarves crafters create a massive relief on a wall? Mathilde is hidden in the shadows. I half remember that some famous artists used to do stuff like that, and I think it would be amusing if there is a finding Waldo situation, where Mathilde's presence can be inferred in various artworks. A shadow somewhere that does not behave as it should. A greatsword with runes seen at the edge of a painting. A witch hunter hat in a crowd. Stuff like that.

Didn't Disney Land do something similar with hidden Mickey Mouse silhouettes everywhere?

If we ever pick up the forgettable arcane mark, we've got us a best seller wizard passtime on our hands! :V Do your best to struggle against Ulgu and try to remember what the person you're even supposed to be looking for in this picture book looks like! Who's Mathilde books are flying off the shelves!

You know, I keep hearing about this soul deep bond that the Great Horned Rat Bastard has with every Skaven that it used to melt them if they go apostate, and I can't help wondering about the possibilities of weaponizing it for another round of Grand Theft Godjuice.

I second this, as the debate shows there is nothing we desperately need, or even want that he can provide right now and something like this is both in character and could have the best possible impact on the world

The Forgettable arcane mark says that a wizard's friends and acquaintances need to roll good just to even remember or recognize their face. If it only applies to their face, would wearing a distinct and unique mask bypass that roll then?

Probably. I always thought that just wearing the hat would get around it, as the only Grey Wizard who wears a Witch Hunter's Hat.
