I want to avoid breaking the CF system. I like the points-go-up aspect of writing papers, I like having the freedom to spend it without justification, and I dislike the prospect of reading line-finding posts and Boney frustration posts.

I ardently oppose any course of action that leads to us becoming a ruler of some location. Such would destroy the best feature of this quest: the total absence of rulership. No, the fief doesn't really count.
We regularly forget we have a fief and the fief is perfectly happy about this. But yes I agree. I don't want this to turn into some province leading math orgie.

Boney approved* the Elector Countess of the Schattenwald idea lets gooo!

*On the condition that we actually claim and hold the land.

Since I'm supposed to be asleep when the vote opens, here's my final(ish) votes.

[] Elector Countess of the Schattenwald
[] Full Collage support for a military endeavour of our choice
(Forest of shadows, forest of gloom, silver road etc)
[] Tenure
(No CF costs)
[] A flying tower

Think we could cash in the Runesmith Guild of Karaz a Karak boon on an airship/tower in conjunction? It's not like we're likely to want to replace Kragg's stuff, so might as well make use of it instead of leaving it to languish on their shoulders a very real metaphorical burden.

Airship that can refuel and reload Gryocopters goes so fucking hard its unreal. But I think a straight forward Airship would fit our wants a bit more. We can circle back around on the Helicarrier when we light a fire under the dwarfs asses when they see ours flying about. (Would still vote for both though)

@Boney would this be a viable plan vote? I'm really only on board with the sky castle as a base for a knightly order, but if you don't want us to spend other boons right now I would understand that.

[ ] A Kingdom in The Sky
-A Flying Castle, suited for exploration, warfare and research (College Boon)
-Permission to create a Knightly Order to use Flying Castle as base of operations (Great Deed)
-Runed steel arms and armor to outfit an entire knightly order (Vlag Transcendent Boon)

Righto, it's bedtime for me, because I have to get up at five thirty in the goddamn morning for a work call tomorrow and so it would be incredibly irresponsible of me to stay up until the vote opens.

I can't help but notice that the advice I gave in my earlier post has been mostly ignored. Folks who want a particular thing, I strongly encourage you to hash out the wording in advance! Otherwise you will discover a few minutes after voting opens that you and other people in your bloc disagree and then everything will be terrible!

Anyway, here are my votes. First, the plan I made:

[] Plan Pickle Requests mk IV
-[] Ambers: The secret behind Flock of Doom
-[] Lights: KAU partnership with the Light Order's Ancient Library
-[] Golds: A We-silk robe enchanted for combat defense
-[] Jades: Pure CF
-[] Celestials: Bankroll for upcoming magical curiosities shopping trip in Lothern
-[] Greys: Operatives to expand the reach of the EIC intel network
-[] Amethysts: Information on what Hexensohn was doing under Drakenhof and why
-[] Brights: Gyrocarriage enchanted with Inextinguishable Flame
This worked out to a nice 2-2-2-2 distribution, something for everyone.
  • From the Ambers and Amethysts, some secrets, asked for mostly to assuage our curiosity rather than because we expect to gain power from them.
  • From the Lights and Greys, some assets for the institutions Mathilde controls
  • From the Golds and Brights, enchanted items that Mathilde is too busy to make herself any time soon
  • From the Jades and Celestials, raw resources that can be exchanged for goods and services
The idea was raised to get a defensively-enchanted We-silk robe from someone else. The Jade defensive spell at Fiendishly Complex wasn't great because it slows you down in exchange for strength, but that's not really a factor with Branulhune. The Amber spells were okay, but I really want to know what the deal is with Corvus the Crow Lord. But I was just asking for money from the Golds, so I swapped around who I was asking for that because Golds, unsurprisingly, have a bunch of great defensive enchantments, and Guard of Steel (for example) has already been OKed as stacking with Aethyric Armour. And then I changed the request wording to the Greys in response to suggestions.

I actually feel pretty good about this one. It doesn't do any one thing as well as the single-boon suggestions, but it does a bunch of different things simultaneously, and maybe people will prefer that.
I am going to request that someone post this for me when the voting opens, and that if anyone wants to make a modification to it, please do not call it the mk V or something else that implies that I made it -- give it a name that makes it clear that it's a variant or has different authorship.

And here are the Single Large Boon options I support, along with proposed wordings for three of them:

[] Armor of von Tarnus
[] Priority requisition access to Armor of von Tarnus
[] Support in dispatching Battle Wizards to one major conflict of Mathilde's choice
Whatever wording the breaking of College Favour ends up having
Whatever wording the Get Me Apparitions When I Want Them ends up having

Of all the options, my absolute favorite is the Armor of von Tarnus, because it is dope as fuck. Its protective enchantments stack with Aethyric Armour castings, allowing us to benefit from both our high Magic stat and our Mastery, and combined we're all but impervious to mundane weapons. No more needing to worry about being surrounded and stunlocked by mooks! We will laugh at hordes! And I love the tie to history that wearing it gives -- it's like when we wielded a Runefang, an act which means something in the Empire, but for the culture of the Colleges instead.

(Plus I imagine the reactions of dark elves in Nagarythe when they see a human in armor and with a big sword, approach appropriately, and then get Ulgu'd, and it's objectively very funny.)

So I encourage people who for some reason value my opinion to vote for that. But I think that with the thread's help we put together a pretty good "wishlist from each college" option, and the other large boons I mentioned are also solid.

Yes.

[Χ] Plan Great Idea
-[Χ] [All] Official permission and carte blanche to study any and all aspects of Dhar.

Seilph has the right of it. Mathilde has a Widowmaker in her mind and she has yet to even imagine drawing on it.

A darn shame is what it is.

This is actually a viable option. We now know the old ones had to use Dhar in the way stones, so there has to be someways of purifying it's Corrupting touch. I mean it could just be that the Old Ones were literally built different, but I find that a civilization that can use the winds to terraform planets would probably have a way to handle this one aspect of them.

So a streamlined Flying Boat Vote:

[] Mathilde's Flying Circus Knightship
-[] ORB: Giant Flying Warship
-[] QUEEKISH BOON: Found a Knightly Order for the ship.
-[] DWARF BOONS: Assist with the above.

OUTDATED
Not sure what phrasing to use with dwarfboons.

For the Amethysts, does anybody want to ask them about the secret to their Telepathy?

That sounds like the sort of thing that might be useful to the Grey Order. (Or nightmarish. Their wizards can be even more secretive. And thus cause them even more problems. Lol Grey Order.)

Mind, I am pretty sure that the answer to that is probably gonna be some form of "You have to use Shyish to make it work", but... Maybe if we knew the secret, we could work out a way to do it for ourselves?

Or I suppose we might work out a way to spy on or intercept telepathy, which the Grey Order would like and the Amethyst Order would hate.

Keep in mind for the knightly order that it's just permission to found one - we have to go out to recruit and arm them all ourselves, and that's impractical.

If we want a garrison, we're probably better off with dwarves. Dwarves are good at tower defence and boarding actions.

Dunno about their smithing, but their mining and smelting capabilities are shot for a generation, and their runesmiths are dead. Now if its stone, thats where they come in handy.
They got a lot of rune pokers though, which means they can mass produce runed goods more easily. If need be we can throw in our Karaz-a-Karak boon to cover the weapons, and the vlag boon to cover the rest. More likely Vlag can use some of their gold to buy the steel goods from other Karaks if they need to.

I mean, that's what the other boons are for.

We've already interacted with a bunch of Knightly Orders or close equivalents from the faiths - Longstriders, the White Wolves, Stirland's Greatswords, the Emperor's own Greatswords.

Our problem isn't going to recruiting, it's going to be figuring out how to fit them all.

I'm dogshit at writing up details. So I'm gonna try badly here and more than happy to accept help.

But I consider this a College Project First and Foremost, not a dwarf project that has some College help. But a Primary College project that gets some augments from the Dwarfs.

[] Plan: Airship Project by the Colleges
-[] Have a Stealth system using Uglu
-[] A bay where a Gryocopter can land and rearm/refuel
-[] Mathilde gets choice on who crews it. Mathilde would explicitly be the Captain and uses it as she sees fit.
-[] Defense System using Azyr

This is my super basic idea.

I'd suggest putting "Plan:" at the start of the vote so that subsequent voters can just vote for the first line without messing the tally up.

It's a good place to start ideas-wise.

I would be 100% okay with this, if instead of a mere Castle we went with my Helicarrier idea instead. And some other modifications.

My version:

[ ] Plan: A Modest Proposal
- [] Designing, commissioning, and building the Fantasy Helicarrier, as proposed somewhat flamboyantly by avatar11792 (College Boon, plus a collaboration between the Imperial School of Engineering, Dawi Runelords and Architects, and support directly from the Emperor for materials and labor force)
- [] Permission to create a new Imperial Knightly Order to use Helicarrier as base of operations, wielding enchanted Hochland Long Rifles, use of Wizards and Battle Wizards, and a flying (gryphon) and ground (demigryph) force. (Great Deed)
- [] Commissioning enough Dawi-forged and Runed steel arms, armor, and equipment to outfit an entire Knightly Order (broken Dwarf Favor system, plus a LOT of gold, and upon completion an oath to break this new war vessel in on a campaign of the Dawi's choosing).

Fantasy Helicarrier:
- COMMAND STAFF: Mostly Imperial. Mathilde gets choice on who crews it. Mathilde would explicitly be the Captain, and uses it as she sees fit.
- CREW: Mostly Imperial, with various "advisers" from Brettonia, Kislev, Estalia, Tilea, and Araby. Dawi maintenance workers for onboard Runed sections.
- STEALTH: Have a Stealth system using Uglu (if possible, secondary function using large illusions for seizing tactical opportunities)
- FLIGHT BAY: 1x carrier launch bay where 1x Gryocopter squadron and 1x Gyrobomber squadron can land, rearm/refuel.
- POINT DEFENSE: Defense System using Azyr
- ARMOR/HULL: Strengthened Armor, Hull, and Structural Integrity using the best of Dawi engineering and Steel, plus College enchantments (maybe Gromril reinforcement, if the Dawi ask us to help reclaim Karak Varn as compensation?)
- INTERNAL AMENITIES - WARRIORS: Internal barracks and training facilities for each species warriors suited to their culture and temperament, as well as sumptuous living quarters/amenities (always take good care of your troops)
- FORGES /SKUNKWORKS: internal forges and engineering skunkworks for studying captured equipment for new weapons ideas, repairing existing combat assets, and upgrading the ship with new advancements easier
- NOT A PETTING ZOO: onboard facilities to care for and maintain Pegasus, gryphons, any onboard fighting animals, basically.
- KITCHENS/FOOD SUPPLY: Onboard kitchens are run and equipped by Halfling cooks and staff (keep soldiers well fed for max fighting spirit)
- POWER SOURCE(S): Dawi-reinforced Steam Engines for conventional non-magical power needs, MORBs for magical power needs
- OPTIONAL: If possible, the Helicarrier is a portable Waystone, can be used when over a region awash in magical Winds (seems like a good idea, denies Winds to the enemy, and reduces strain on MORBs).

Seems possible. What do you think, @Boney ?

EDIT: Okay, Nurgle just liked this post. What's wrong with my idea?

Detailed boat vote:

[] Mathilde's Flying Circus Knightship MK 2
-[] ORB: Giant Flying Warship with rooms for Cannon, Knights, Cargo, Research, Research Team, Personal Quarters, a good kitchen, infirmary, sensitive/dangerous material containment, magical anti-air, takeoff points for smaller on-board fliers (Amber wizards wrangle up a number of flying beasts?), and other space for future expansion.
-[] QUEEKISH BOON: Found a Knightly Order for the ship, equipped with the finest dwarven steel w/ runes, skilled with on-foot operations as well as able to ride atop smaller flying additions. (flying beasts/gyrocopter?)
-[] DWARF BOONS: Assist with the above vis a vis providing the mundane components of the boat + design expertise, knightly orders equipment/armaments, and runework.
