My picks:

[ ] Dooming and Quickening
There will be rites and celebrations for Prince Mandred entering adulthood. Be present for them, and perform others that are pleasing to his true patron.

[ ] Entrance Examination
Dragomas is forming a panel of eight Wizards from the eight Orders to determine the most suitable fit for a certain child of nobility. Be the Grey Order's representative on that panel.

We're Mandred's godmother. We should be at these.

[ ] Witch Hunter
There's apparently some sort of Witch Hunter snooping around Gretel's lands. She'd absolutely be capable of dealing with it, but you'd be able to do so faster and would have more fun doing it.

Shennanigans. Yes please.

And my absolutley do not pick:

[ ] Orb Reveal
If you don't feel like waiting until you finish writing the book on how, you can make your grand reveal of the Orbs of Sorcery you created to the Colleges now.

The gigaflex must be truly giga, complete with dropping a book and leaving for Uluthan. If I can manage to squeeze the Seviriscope in there at the same time I will vote for that too.

Can we use the gems as collateral and get a loan in gold from the dwarfs? I doubt the dwarves have liquidity issues.
If we're planning to buy in Lothern, I think I saw it said that we wouldn't need to swap the gems out for coins to start buying.

If we wait out the exchange process we'll get more money total because our company can sell them in places where they're much more expensive, though.

OK guys do we want a Bilbo vest to enchant as a replacement for the last mediocre magic item we have on hand? Or do we just want cold hard cash for Lothern?
I feel like a Bilbo vest is a plausible reward if we do well on the Elfcation, so while I recognise it might offer better protection against the Druchii I doubt we really have time to work on enchanting it before Elfcation and fairly happy with our robes as is.

Now that I have gone through the social options, I once again encourage the thread to hold off on revealing the Orbs until next turn (T44), because that the correct half of the year for Two Gifts Day, which is the perfect occasion for revealing them.

Also is that tree trying to put down a World Root or something? I'm slightly concerned it might be trying to put down a world root, which... I don't think Belegar will be happy if a wood elf raiding party pops out of a tree in the Caldera is all.

Honestly I think he might be ok with it... The raiding party definitely wouldn't be ok with being suddenly surrounded by the defensive might of k8p and within the shadow of it's super weapon.

Oh man, the vote will be brutal, there's just so many fantastic options. I really want Mandred and initiate, but that is three already. Festival sounds cool too, but I'm not married to it. I want Baba, a lot, but it doesn't have to be this turn. I want the ambush too, but again, doesn't have to be this turn. Vampire Kislevites too. I want Sarvoi, because he's a cool self nerd and i want to hear about apparitions.

Ok, I want nearly every option. It's hard.

I also want a Boris option. "Sure killed your father good, didn't we" isn't that sensible, but maybe something on how he's settling? But that would overlap with the Baba option.

Anyway, some thoughts on the update.

Not surprisingly, lots of Mathilde as teacher.
You have to tell her as much twice, the second time adding extra stress to the 'standard', before she realizes her error
I like this bit a lot, it's a very Grey way to teach, while also still teaching. A lot of fictional teaching runs into "Why not just tell them? This could not possibly be efficient".
and apparently with such ease that the only lesson to be learned from the endeavour was how much she enjoyed dashing about the city's streets
I really enjoy Zlata and Eike being such a commercial dream team team, that does yeah is so effortless that Eike can just horse around.

And in every young woman there is a little girl that just wants to ride a warhorse through a city, driving her foes before her. Economically.
The Hochlander delivers exactly as promised, taking Eike along on one of those little tasks that never reach your ears but fill the Hochlander's days when he's not on your direct orders and keeps the flow of the EIC's commerce going smooth.
It's strangely satisfying to me that our minion is having his own adventures. Hochlander quest.

Also, surprise sneaky Eike. IMHO, it's the great sword. You never see a wizard with a great sword.
So instead you put your time towards teaching Panoramia the subtle art of acting mysterious and smug when someone asks questions you don't actually have the answers for, and before long all of Karak Eight Peaks believes that she somehow deliberately created a giant tree as a centerpiece of the inner Karak - possibly as an aid to her future plans of turning the central caldera into grazelands, possibly just to show off.
It's important to share interests.

Although, it seems quite likely this will in fact help turn the caldera more agriculturally useful. But more important, it will also make K8Ps stranger. I wonder if we can get spider gardeners. I do hope we get dryads. Hobbit influenced dryads.

It could be argued that a religious festival that isn't celebrated in Reikland and is dedicated to a barely accepted god isn't the best framing for showing of a very major discovery to an officially secular organization.

Yay it's here.

[ ] Swordplay
Test your novel swordfighting style against the swordsmen of Tor Lithanel.

This is still on my wishlist, wanna hang out with great swordsmen, figure out exactly how her skill compares with them, and hopefully impress some people. But I think the more temporary social options are going to usually appeal more.

[ ] Initiate
For the first time, a child born in Karag Nar has shown a capability of using magic. It is the duty of a Wizard to ascertain their suitability to join one of the Orders of Magic.

Ooh I do like this, though I don't super want another baby grey wizard for the narrative to care about, it is a cool thing for Mathilde to do.

[ ] Dooming and Quickening
There will be rites and celebrations for Prince Mandred entering adulthood. Be present for them, and perform others that are pleasing to his true patron.

Absolutely yes, also how old is this kid again? This feels fast.

[ ] Entrance Examination
Dragomas is forming a panel of eight Wizards from the eight Orders to determine the most suitable fit for a certain child of nobility. Be the Grey Order's representative on that panel.

Honestly I'm a tad concerned about bias here, I am not particularly invested in Mandred being Grey, so I would prefer to avoid even the appearance of putting a finger on that scale.

[ ] Orb Reveal
If you don't feel like waiting until you finish writing the book on how, you can make your grand reveal of the Orbs of Sorcery you created to the Colleges now.

Tempting. This would be one of the greatest book marketing campaigns ever, build up the hype machine ahead of time so word can spread and the initial impact will be bigger.

Laurelorn
[ ] Swordplay
Test your novel swordfighting style against the swordsmen of Tor Lithanel.
[ ] Niedzwenka
Ask Baba Niedzwenka how she feels about the new Tzar, and about the political landscape of Kislev in general.
[ ] Sarvoi
Try to figure out if the Elves use the same Apparition-based spells that the Colleges do, and find out what the Elven perspective on that sort of thing is.
[ ] The Festival Lord
The Eonir are holding a festival of games dedicated to Asuryan, the winner of which will ascend to (or remain on) the ruling Triumvirate of Laurelorn. Mathilde isn't at all allowed to participate, but she could watch.
Of the Laurelorn options, The Festival Lord gets a bit of a boost for being time sensitive, but the only one I have truly strong opinions on is a stipulation against Niedzwenka. While I'd normally love to chat her up, this vote's subject matter has me wary of the perceptive acumen of the world's oldest living witch.
Karak Eight Peaks
[ ] Okri
You've met Loremaster Okri of Karak Eight Peaks once before. Pay him a visit and see how his great ambitions for heavily-armed Ironbreakers delivered by Gyrocarriage are going.
[ ] Initiate
For the first time, a child born in Karag Nar has shown a capability of using magic. It is the duty of a Wizard to ascertain their suitability to join one of the Orders of Magic.
I am fully on board the Initiate bandwagon.
Foreign Relations
[ ] Middenland
See how the Ulricans are going with their new Eonir coreligionists.
[ ] Wissenland
Though the Elector Count is his usual self, some of their actions recently have hinted at the hand of someone a great deal defter. Investigate who took the job of his Spymaster after you turned it down.
[ ] Druchii Diplomats
Check in on these unexpected visitors to Tor Lithanel.
Morbid curiosity has me leaning towards Druchii Diplomats.
Friends Abroad
[ ] Dooming and Quickening
There will be rites and celebrations for Prince Mandred entering adulthood. Be present for them, and perform others that are pleasing to his true patron.
[ ] Witch Hunter
There's apparently some sort of Witch Hunter snooping around Gretel's lands. She'd absolutely be capable of dealing with it, but you'd be able to do so faster and would have more fun doing it.
One's a time sensitive bandwagon, and the other is a personal fixation in a context that could be broadly popular. I'll take both!
Following Up
[ ] Amber College
Check in on the salamanders.
[ ] Skull River Ambush
Look into the investigation of the mining of the Skull River, and any consequences of it.
[ ] Kalishiniviks
Investigate the fate of the Kalishiniviks, who were made a scapegoat for the death of the Tzar.
[ ] Entrance Examination
Dragomas is forming a panel of eight Wizards from the eight Orders to determine the most suitable fit for a certain child of nobility. Be the Grey Order's representative on that panel.
[ ] Orb Reveal
If you don't feel like waiting until you finish writing the book on how, you can make your grand reveal of the Orbs of Sorcery you created to the Colleges now.
Fully on board with the Entrance Examination bandwagon, and a bit wary of having the Orb Reveal in this context.

Definitely:
[ ] Initiate
[ ] Dooming and Quickening
[ ] Witch Hunter
[ ] Entrance Examination

Maybe:
[ ] The Festival Lord
[ ] Druchii Diplomats

Think I'll go with a six item vote with both my Maybes to crowd out my negative stipulations.

Honestly I think he might be ok with it... The raiding party definitely wouldn't be ok with being suddenly surrounded by the defensive might of k8p and within the shadow of it's super weapon.

IIRC I don't think we included a "Wood Elf" option in our holy super weapon targeting orbs that let the thing fire without us, so we'd need to be present (or another grey wizard technically).

They still would show up in a caldera still made up to hold back a year long Wasn't if necessary... With exactly 1 (one) tree to hide in. Wood elf's are many things... And sometimes even suicidal but those are big odds.

[ ] Witch Hunter

Just imagine the helpnessness from Witch Hunters (grited teeth , ripped out hair, hidden glares) in face of Mathilde's SmugnessTM skulking around knowing they can't do anything about it.

- Mathilde: I guess I can take the Orbs back if you don't want them? Maybe I can sell them in Uluthan?

Mathilde Weber, two seconds before being dogpiled by the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of the Colleges of Magic.

I think we should go all in on the Mandred options - besides it just being exactly what we were named his godmother for, these events in particular also hold huge impact in shaping his future.

His Quickening in all likelihood will probably involve burning that toy horse, and if you people make me miss his Dooming (which is one of the coolest traditions in any fantasy universe I've seen) I will literally never forgive you.

I also want to bring up something right now which is likely to be unpopular to say - in all likelihood, Mandred should probably not become a Grey Wizard if he's also going to be the first Wizard Count (let alone theoretical Wizard Emperor). While Ulgu would be immensely useful for subterfuge, it would also cast a shady reputation on him politically. Ideally, I'd say the Light or Bright Orders would be the best bet in that regard, the former more so.

The only real advantage to him being Grey would be visibility on our part - I don't see protection being an issue; regardless of slapfighting over who gets him, every wizard in the Empire is going to circle the wagons around the only person born in years with a chance to permanently enshrine their rights. The Grey is probably going to have an entire squad of wizard secret service on him at all times anyway, with the Celestials having some prognostic squad doing the same, the Jades with some Trauma Team executive coverage team on standby, and so on and so forth.

I'd also pose to you how infinitely funnier it would be to raise a Light Wizard secretly sworn to Ranald.

So one thing to also keep in mind is the ripple effects of the Ithalmar action, namely as stated there are good odds that those in the know will attempt to do what we just did.

Now as mentioned this likely won't result in any massive hauls, we got most of that with our first pass, but I can imagine a steady trickle of people bringing this to sell to the elves.
