As for eikes training, personally if we are to take her with us to lothern and leave her there I'd be much happier if we found out what her intrigue is and gave her some pointers in that...
Boney has stated previously that Lothern is not a particularly interesting city to spend even one month in, so I don't think leaving her there is likely to happen.

@Boney would max like to go to Lothern to buy books and explore its markets for months?
No. A weekend, sure, or a week maybe. But months is a big chunk of time, and there's only so many books to buy and markets to explore.

I think it may have been this one:
To be more concrete, is "[*] Explore the wonders of the city of Lothern" a valid action that might start giving us the Asur diplomacy skill, which would presumably be useful for negotiating later on?
No. Bumbling about Lothern and bouncing off the kind of Lothernians that you might encounter when aimlessly wandering the streets will give you no usable insight into the other 98% of Asur. Also I feel exhausted just thinking about trying to write such an aimless action.

But yeah, my point is that enchantment can be taught later but if we are serious about taking eike with us to lothern and then leaving her there for 3 months I'd be much happier if we had an idea about her intrigue and maybe refresh those teaching again...

Yeaaaaaaah, that does not feel like a "there are no dangers to apprentices there" kinda post.

Just to clarify, I don't think lothern is super dangerous... But I also think that elfs can be absolutely tricksy and getting something out of a human apprentice seems like a thing they might do if bored.
I want to bring Eike along on Elfcation and leave her in Lothern. My takeaway from what Boney was saying is that Mathilde is not going to learn much about the Asur in general by just spending time in Lothern, and that there wouldn't be much interesting in the action of exploring to describe from the Mathilde's POV. However if Eike is reporting about her time in Lothern to us, it can be just the strange and exciting results with no explanation about how she got in those situations, and that mystery could make it more interesting. And if we give her a few tasks to accomplish (like making trade contacts for the EIC and KAU) while we are in Nagarythe and she doesn't manage to find anything exciting to do outside those tasks it can be just a summary of how well she did at those tasks without feeling like a wasted action.

Interesting for a lord Magister and a apprentice are two very different definitions to me. A lone zombie was very interesting to us when we started out...
That's completely besides the point. The point is that you generally take actions with a clear goal in mind and I don't see one for this.

I will not support bringing Eike further away from her home than she has ever been in the vain hopes that she might find it interesting for longer than a week or that she would somehow stumble onto a young and approachable elven Prince or Handmaiden or Isha or whatever.

It's the one LawsOfRobotics just quoted. The only reason hanging around Tor Lithanel was action-worthy for us (two actions, even, because there was also the action to get to know the Cityborn) is because for most intents and purposes, Tor Lithanel is Laurelorn. It's the only city they've had for millennia and as a result it has to be interesting.

Lothern... is just a city. A cool city, sure. An important city, sure. But not a city that Eike would really learn anything from. She might find Altdorf more interesting for all we know. At least there, there's other wizards her age and from the Colleges that she could bond with.

But yeah, my point is that enchantment can be taught later but if we are serious about taking eike with us to lothern and then leaving her there for 3 months I'd be much happier if we had an idea about her intrigue and maybe refresh those teaching again...
We're not, though? I don't think we are at all serious about bringing Eike to Lothern just for kicks. I think it's an actually fringe position and haven't seen that much actual support behind it.

Oh I don't have a problem with actually taking her, I just want her to be a bit more prepared... And sad as it is, learning enchantment doesn't help with dealing with elf's...

It's of course hard to say how people will vote but there were quite a few people arguing for bringing her and not a lot of them arguing against when the topic came up last.

I definitely argued for bringing her, but my position was more driven from pushing back on the idea that it was too dangerous for her. As for a thing for her to work toward, I was considering she could do market research on the port in order to help facilitate a future EIC outpost there. In all honesty though the EIC is slammed with opportunities in the Old World, so it probably wouldn't even be able to make use of the information she gathered before it became obsolete.

I've actually sort of come around to the idea someone had about just embedding her to work in the EIC for the time Mathilde is away.

Like you say though, there's no real way to know until we see how people vote.

Let me try to put my thoughts into words, because I'm actually legitimately confused and hope someone will explain this to me:

On a practical level, not on the level of 'she could take in the sights or maybe buy something neat', what exactly do we expect to accomplish by bringing Eike to Lothern? Because if there's nothing practical, we could equally just have her spend time on Barak Varr, which is also a port city with wonderful sights and neat stuff to buy... and which also wouldn't be neat enough to spend a lot of time in for more than a week or two without purpose.

I think I personally am somewhat ambivalent about it? Lothern isn't the worst place we could leave her for a bit, but honestly it's also not the best thing for her I feel.

The arguments I've seen is that it is pretty much a once in a lifetime chance for most people to visit lothern.
that eike is the heiress of rapidly expanding trading company and lothern offers unique learning opportunities in that regard.
That having eike in lothern would enable her to go looking for book contacts for us.

That's the biggest I remember seeing I think

There's nothing practical that's unique to Lothern (save that she can speak Eltharin but can't speak Khazalid), but we should take her to Lothern because I think it'd be more fun and interesting for her. Also, this'll be the only time it's realistic for her to visit Lothern until at least she reaches Magister, whereas Marienburg and Barak Varr are just down the road.

Eike could make friends with the humans who are totally not slaves and learn things about them. Maybe become pen pals with them. Or go on her own little adventure and explore the richest city in the world.

When the hell else is Eike going to get a chance to visit Lothern?

She can visit Barak Varr at literally any time, but this is a pretty unique opportunity for a trade heiress who is interested in ships to take a prolonged ship voyage to one of the largest trading ports in the world.

My desire to take her isn't particularly tied to any major specifics about Lothern itself - if we were, say, going to Cathay for business, I'd be arguing to leave her in Fu-Chow instead, because that would also be a rare opportunity to have her expand her horizons and experience something new and relevant to her interests.

I'm certain we can find something useful for her to do, anyway - she'll be an older teen who speaks the language, so it's not like she'll be totally isolated.

It very much is not once-in-a-lifetime at all, it's a pretty open city and in a few years when she becomes an adult she'd be perfectly capable of coming herself if she's so interested. She's her own person and unlike Mathilde would have the freedom to choose where she would Journey - and if it briefly takes her to Lothern, no one's going to gainsay her.

I'd be fine with Eike evaluating potential trading opportunities for the EIC in Lothern, or spending some of our last few weeks in Nagarythe in Lothern evaluating book contacts so that when we come back we'd meet her, do the books, and then come back to the Empire together with us, but like, at least say that.

Those are in fact tangible actions where she'd be doing something rather than just wandering around aimlessly, like what seemed to be implied. And I'm annoyed that people seem to jump to what they wanted first (Eike vacationing somewhere) and then contrived reasons for why we would want her to do that.

There's nothing practical that's unique to Lothern (save that she can speak Eltharin but can't speak Khazalid), but we should take her to Lothern because I think it'd be more fun and interesting for her. That's insubstantial for an action proper. Yes, it'd be neat as a neat little scene or whatever, but we're talking about months here. Ulthuan is not going to close its doors off to the rest of the world anytime soon that we know of.

I would think that at least in Barak Varr, Eike would have a chance to learn some Khazalid, and get to know the local EIC office.

I wonder if we can invite Pan to come with for a portion of that Action slot, if she likes.
It sounds like a possible social action, but Boney has always been clear on how WEB-MAT actions proper only involve the members of WEB-MAT.
