Treason doth never prosper; what's the reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it treason.
I think as a Ranaldite, an even more appropriate source to quote is scripture:
Article:
—The perfect crime, I say; for if we succeed, we cannot be caught, even if all know of our deeds. Only if we fail can we be punished.
—But, how can this be? When we commit a crime, the law of the land always follows, especially if they know what we have done, and who we are.
—Not for this crime, my friend. I can guarantee that success will bring us safety.
—Please, do not taunt me so, what is this crime we must plan?
—You tell me.

Then again, scribe training is also an AP sink. There's one for common Old World languages (ie Kislevarin, Classical, Estalian, etc) which seems to be an University of Altdorf/general Imperial college thing, the Eonir one for Eltharin and scroll-handling, and maybe one for magic terminology (presumably from the Colleges). And then there's Khazalid (none of the human scribe options had this, including those from some well-educated groups; this seems to indicate that Khazalid doesn't count as a common Old World language, at least for humans), obscure dialects (ie Ungol and Roppsmen), and particularly exotic foreign languages if we ever find a need for those (I doubt it; most likely we're just getting those books translated with CF). And that's presuming Bretonnian and Wastelander are already covered under Imperial (which they probably are, since they're just Reikspiel dialects with an army).

Which is a lot of time we could've been using to get BÖÖK more directly. :(

The answer is obviously apotheosis. Look at your own god.

This. Boris will do what he can to repel Chaos.

It is quite literally all I want out of this, not some sort of reward.

I mean he is going to do that anyway, but have you considered that it is literally all that Mathilde does? We have built a character who has dedicated every mechanically relevant waking hour to helping the world and all within it. It is not like we are going to ask for a holiday house in Kislev City, Mathilde is the woman who looks at overwork mechanics and thinks 'when can I skip sleep without it negatively impacting my work'. She even referenced that when talking about how he resonated with the Red Rider enjoying its work. She is that single minded.

We can just make the price access to Kislev for the waystone project. Helps Kislev, it's something Boris would be up for anyway, and it was a possible Shirokij reward.

That is something Boris will enthusiastically do as soon as he has the power to, which makes naming it as the price rather weird, given that Mathilde definitely knows this from how openly and emphatically he's stated his intentions. IMO, "be weird" is an inferior choice to "actually just say it's a freebie" given that both lead to the same actions.

The rest of the post, I agree with, but this bit's a stretch. The resonance in question was about how the Rider feels joy/satisfaction in striking down users of destructive magic and that it likes what it is and what it does. Mathilde, too, likes who she is and what she does, and she does try to change the world for the better whenever she can, but she's not so absolutely single minded.

I feel like if asked what she would like in exchange, if so asked, Mathilde's actual response should be 'All I want is an ally against Chaos.' Which is the biggest and most important thing and makes it clear her priorities and his align. Anything beyond that is something to be discussed later, not as a price for helping kill his father.

Oh to be clear I do not think she is as single minded as the Rider, she is single minded enough that the comparison is not entirely absurd.

I mean, you know the saying right? If you enjoy your job, you will not work a single day in your life.

Mathilde idea of fun is simply doing more of what she already does for work.

Why are we asking for a "price" here anyway? Is Mathilde that purely transactional, or does she do things when it is right that they be done?

In this case, regicide is right because A) The Tzar is weakening the land, B) The Tzar is in the way of the waystone project, C) It never hurts to have (another) regent who feels like he owes you a favor.

Like ... this is a win for Kislev, the Empire, the Ice Witches, the people of Kislev, and all of that win flows, directly or indirectly, in directions that favors Mathilde's short term goals (the Waystone project) and long term goals (survival of the Empire and the world in the face of Chaotic predation).

More, by asking for no price we honor Ranald.

We serve the Gambler on a new roll of the dice - regicide. We serve the Deceiver by hiding the truth of the matter. We serve the Night Prowler by infiltrating to steal a kingdom. We serve the Protector by ending a tyrant because it is right rather than because we were paid. Nine hells, we might be honoring the Father in this too. I can't keep track of all this old world stuff, does he have a connection up here?

We're not asking for a price, Boris is offering one, and I suspect it's a little rude to say "no thanks, I'll murder your father for free".

So we're discussing how best to utilise the good will Boris will be giving us.

Which is a bit tricky, because as far as I can tell, Kislev doesn't have anything we want right at this moment.

I said it before, and we may as well ask for full cooperation with the Waystone Project. Boris is likely to do that anyway, so it's not like we're asking for something that would be out of Boris' wheelhouse or something that Kislev can't provide. It's a simple price to ask for and it certainly doesn't weigh heavy on our conscience, like a more selfish ask would.

Do we even need more Kislev help?

We've already hooked both the ice witches and Hags in, what more is there to get?

Help in implimentation?

We couldn't fucking PAY Boris to impliment it any harder than he's already going to. Any result we get, he's going going to browbeat, threaten and shout at everyone until it's being enacted on a mass scale.

Boris is already locked into the waystone project as much as we can possibly get, just because it's exactly what he wants.

There's not much more to gain here.

Yes, but what does that mean?

Boris is going to be Tzar, and supports the project- wouldn't that automatically give us easy access as a matter of course?

Maybe some higher ranked hags and witches, with them browbeaten into revealing some secrets, which seems... maginally useful?

Certainly not enough to justify asking in exchange though.

Point's just to get something we want that Boris wants to give and that's helpful in general.

Maybe get royal permission for a College outpost in Kislev to look for and recruit male magic users and send them back to the empire? Seems more useful than asking for something we already have. Sure, male magic users already do travel to the empire, but a formalized, organized system for it can only make things more reliable.

We're already getting full waystone support—it's just that Boris can't cash that check until dear old dad is dead.

Maybe something to do with the fire spire? It was the forefront of magical learning in the old world for centuries—but that would lock us in to spending AP on fixing it.
