...It occurs to me that this would be the third person who we would be helping become the leaders of their respective kingdoms. Belegar, Heidi, and now Boris.

...Incidentally, I wonder who Marrisith's successor is, if she has one.

People seem to be talking about the risk that Boris is actually the Changeling, but have people considered the equal risk that we are in fact the Changeling and just don't know it? How long has it been since Algard last Daemon checked us?

Having read through stuff, I kinda want to hunt down and burn any material that contains the Changeling, because an arbitrarily-undetectable perfect-unless-plot-says-otherwise infiltrator is garbage. (Garbage writing, garbage plot, and just plain garbage.) And making any argument whose base involves an unfalsifiable premise is just threadcancer.

Kingmaker: Being around you seems to help people ... climb the royal ladder. -1 Diplomacy with heads of state; +1 Diplomacy with heirs

Hey! I like the Changeling! He is absolutely hilarious in the lore.

Oh she's good, don't get me wrong. But there's no way she's one of the best in the Empire. Where are all the people with actually heroic diplo builds? :V
Probably running various businesses. A lot of positions in the Empire are filled by nobles, regardless of whether they're the best individual for the job.

Nah.

Mathilde is under no obligation towards Kislev nor does she really have to be in Kislev and she has the position and reputation to ride out the controversy in the Empire and the Karaz Ankor.

Boris has to lead Kislev which would be immensely problematic if the truth got out.
Depends on how it's revealed and who by and to.

We could probably justify making it a WEBMAT action if APs are tight - they're explicitly for things that would let our employees get their names put down in history, after all.
Yeah, Ergrimm might be into it.

We just need to carry around a Griffon. That's the canonically correct way!

The Changeling, much like Alpharius in 40k, is at his best when he's portrayed as a peerless schemer and manipulator... and also a hilariously petty asshole.

Sure, he would be undefeatable if he never showed his true face and just remained behind the scenes pulling the strings, but that's missing the point of the character.

It's not enough to win, you have to style on them. You have to let them know who beat them and how, let them know just how much smarter and better you are.

The Changeling is at his core a prankster, and a prank is not a prank unless the victim knows they have been pranked.

Yeah, if I was going to assign any weakness to the Changeling as an infiltrator, it's that he has little patience and no self control for resisting pulling his 'pranks'.

At the end of the day what really makes this urgent for me is that we know Chaos is coming from multiple sources now, from the daemon to Algard talking about cults acting up to Boris, that is three sources Kislev must be ready and if that costs the life of one poor-to-middling king... well he could have abdicated if he did not feel like ruling properly, but he did not so sucks to be him

I know everyone's decided that asking for books as payment is a bit gauche, but...

I think there's a compelling argument to be made that Kislev in particular could really stand to benefit from KAU's mandate to copy all of their books. This is a country that periodically faces down Everchosen and gets its cities razed, such that they have to build up again each time - wouldn't it be better if they could start that rebuilding with copies of all their lost libraries available at the safest library in the world?

I'm not saying that this is a better pick than mandating male magic users get sent to the Empire without exception, but if the deal explicitly included the right of Kislev to get copies of those books back whenever they're lost, I think it'd honestly really help them out. I can't think of a better example of KAU's explicit goal of preserving libraries through disasters.

We could make a deal where Mathilde says she's going to come around in 2 years or so to make that case, and that Boris will be so "convinced" of this argument with the threat of an Everchosen approaching he'll agree to all of the libraries, ever.

Yes, I want all of the Kislev books - but Praag was lost entirely and all of its works with it. The Fire Spire's books are only potentially not lost by an incredible coincidence. What if Praag falls again? What if the Everchosen makes it further south next time? There's no northern dwarves to harry them from the rear, now. Kislev stands to lose so much, loses so much every time, and this would help with that.

Now that Mathilde's gotten a taste for regicide, maybe it's time to start writing in more plans that include:

[ ] Involve yourself in foreign affairs (specify where and how): Murder the King of X

whenever we have an AP to spare.
Actually there is a dawi king that if he dies would elevate a good friend and make the hold better.

He wouldn't even need to abdicate. Assigning some of the tasks of ruling to one's heir is hardly uncommon among hereditary rulers...he could've just allowed Boris to reorganize things and handle admin stuff while he hunted and stayed king. He didn't.
