Ekrund and Tylos might have similar records, if the Vibes I'm picking up from Borek's speech are right

We're gonna have a hard time getting at those Tylosian records, given that they've since rebranded as... uh.. Skavenblight? Ekrund seems worth checking out if folks think there's information in there. There's even some reference to Dwarves who left across the Dark Lands and the ocean, so maybe the Spine of Sotek dwarves could be a source? Or we could investigate fallen holds in the Mountains of Mourne, tho both of those seem like a longshot

I really want to look into these old Dwarf gods now. I wonder what the others turned into. Maybe Hashut and the Horned Rat perhaps?

That's a bit surprising. I was sort of expecting a plea for Mathilde to cause the Night Goblins to just decide to mysteriously kill each other off or something else equally lucridious considering her track record.
They have that pencilled in on the tentative campaign calendar for a decade or two from now. Part of that briefing may have been a desperately unspoken plea not to throw everything into chaos just this minute if you would be so kind.

Well. That was an entirely unexpected bomb and awesome as all get out. We got answers, yay! Now we don't have to constantly wonder.
To the Dwarves overseeing the courtyard, that you entered from within Karaz-a-Karak means you can only be one person, and the Thane in charge is quickly informed and bustles over to see what has made you their problem. To someone with that responsibility, it's a great relief to find that no more than curiosity brings you, and satisfying that curiosity is a small price to pay in exchange for you leaving sooner.
Man, I always love these little bits about Mathilde's reputation. Like, yeah, she's well-known and the dwarves love and respect her, but they really don't want to deserve her full attention, because that generally means things have gone horribly wrong.

It's also a campaign that might have taken a note or two from the Karak Eight Peaks campaign, as it shows an awareness and willingness to take advantage of fracture points in the enemy ranks instead of treating them all as a unified force. It's not quite what Dwarves would call Ranger tactics, but it is a step closer to it than you'd normally expect from the heart of traditional Dwarven orthodoxy. You jot down a few mental notes in preparation for sharing your impressions with Belegar, who's shown a quiet but intense interest in the goings-on at Karaz-a-Karak recently, and begin to make your way back to the airport.
Good to see. Slow and cautious they might be, but Dawi progress ceaselessly.
Sounds like the campaign has no immediate need for Mathilde's touch. Just as well given how busy she is.

Also nice to hear that Mathilde and Belegar are still interacting, even if below the level of abstraction.

"Hello Borek," you greet the orange-haired Dwarf, sitting by a bubbling pot over a fire on the riverbank. Not Thane Borek, not Borek Forkbeard. Just Borek, now. When you spotted him he'd already seen you, and he'd relaxed somewhat as you approached and he got a good look at you. Beside him is a massive and ornate rune-axe, and his hand never strays from its handle.
Destiny finds a way I suppose.

"I blazed a trail through mountains and wastelands, through Daemons and Fire Dwarves and Skaven and Kurgan, to get at those answers, then you took them and left. The Karaz Ankor might be content to leave it at 'Karag Dum has fallen', but I'm not."
You will hand over that expositional worldbuilding or we will seriously fantasise about dragging it from your undead corpse!

"You have my word." To Dwarves, that's ironclad. To you, it means that if you feel the information needs to be shared, the consideration that needs to be made is the amount of damage one Slayer from a fallen Dwarfhold can do to your good name.
It occurs to me that this particular division of loyalty has never actually been tested. I have to wonder if Mathilde would find herself far more reluctant to break her sword word than might be expected of a Grey Wizard.

Well.
I'm gobsmacked.
Shadowgave, the Dum, is an Old One. Or at the very least the twisted shadow of one.

…the knowledge isn't actionable. There is no material gain in sharing this knowledge. Nonetheless I so want it written down and ready to be released with Mathilde's final will.

What manner of induction will you give Eike?
[ ] Wizard
[ ] Dwarven
[ ] Religious
[ ] Swordswoman
Any of these would be acceptable.

And also, if they need a Chaos Engine to turn those wedges into fissures, they know how to contact Mathilde.

Once Mathilde has completed her messy and fragrant task, will she remind Borek of the financial debt she still owes him from the Expedition?

[ ] Yes
Give Borek his cash. We have held on to it for so long. It's so much the proper thing to do that it's almost the answer to a joke. I don't know how the set up would go, but this would almost feel like a punch line.

Remind him of the money, at worst I expect he'll give us a good cause to donate it to.

The shadowgave being the remains of an Old One, long broken... wow.

And I suppose That Axe was always going to find an owner.

We are never to betray Borek's trust here. For he is a God-in-being, even if he doesn't yet know it.

It's actually interesting, because I could very much see Mathilde not mentioning it if she was still in her early-quest mindset. Back when she was embezzling, unwillingly supporting an evil conspiracy, etc. Just goes to show how much she's changed over the years.

We're actually weirdly well set up to investigate this, between Mathilde's pre-existing interest in ancient history, close acquaintance with the Dwarves, along with our fairly unique combination of magical abilities and Avatar trait... (and Apparition binding so we can leash the corpse of an ancient god to our will, naturally)

This is probably the ghost of an Old One. No touchy.

Khsar might not have been the only one to join the Nehekharan pantheon.
"Another" prison is probably a comparison to the dwarves' enslavement in the Southlands. Might be the origin of humans, or of another Old One-developed race.

As for Kavzar: The Doom of Kavzar. Apparently the Dwarven name for Tylos.

@Boney Absolutely amazing update Boney. I love it. I was genuinely gobsmacked and yet so satisfied at this wrap-up to the Karag Dum mystery, and I couldn't be more happy at the revelation. It's so interesting to see that Morghur used to be Khsar and Tylos and probablly an Old One. I know AoS wasn't in your consideration, but amusingly enough Morghur is a god in there too, having survived the old world through the faith of the Beastmen who believe in the Shadowgave. It makes a lots of sense considering his nature.

But yeah, absolutely amazing. There's so much to cover and it's so great but unfortunately it's 2 am. I'll save my post for tomorrow.

It wasn't until you'd shared this impression with Panoramia that she pointed out what you should have spotted immediately: that though you've been comparing her to Panoramia, Tochter is actually a lot like you. You're not sure whether to take this as reassurance or as a reason for further caution.

*your gf saying that girl from the Jade Order sounds a lot like you, actually*

Mathilde: "Should I be worried?"

To someone with that responsibility, it's a great relief to find that no more than curiosity brings you, and satisfying that curiosity is a small price to pay in exchange for you leaving sooner.

We were all worried/rejoicing about Mathilde's dwarven infection, but we always should have considered the opposite, too.

How widespread is the Mathilde Infection among the Dawi, I wonder.

Holy fuck.

Hooly fuck. Literally.

Morghur is unironically a dwarf. I'm pretty sure someone shitposted that idea, bet they feel validated now.
