i would prefer we look at some other parts of the waystone - metal, the storage mechanism, the rune - before we go back to transmission. We don't know of any way to immediately benefit from transmission mechanisms because the rest of the waystone are still a mystery. Let's do the preliminary investigation into each and then use those results to figure out where the most bang for our buck will be. Maybe there's a lot of waystone that are repairable with only the metal being replaced or something, rendering transmission less important. Or maybe we find a bunch of waystone that are mostly fully functional but not near rivers, so we are incentivized to try air rather than rivers. Let's at least overview the basics first, before we start committing to a particular substitution.

Ok, so one last plea for giving the money to Zhufbar.

I feel like having Zhurbar send a small army + a full team of elite miners and get nothing of the loot while the council gets every valuable for sending a single priest is the kind of injustice grudges are built on. Giving a fair pay for a service rendered is central to the dwarven mindset and there is no doubt that the dwarves did much much more than Ionel (who was one of the least crucial member of the team).

Now, the dwarves almost certainly will rationalize that either Karaz Akor owes a debt to Mathilde that they are repaying, that crossing grudges is payment in itself or that it's their duty to help Mathilde defeat an enemy of the dwarves. And all of that is true, of course.

But what is also true is that Mathilde (and K8P) are the real benefactors, not Karaz Ankor in general or Zhufbar in particular. We are basicly using Zhufbar for our own gain (and K8P's library) with incidental positive effect for Stirland and to a much lesser degree Zhufbar.

Paying Zhufbar just makes sense, it's not about them already having money. All dwarf holds are wealthy, they still ask for payment for services rendered and are very unhappy if left unpaid. Just look at how mad Belegar was for Thorgrimm "stealing" magic that he had no idea existed a minute beforehand and had no use for from "his" waystones. Sure, the council might need the money more, but it's a very undwarven way to pay your employees.

Since Mathilde has been declared a dwarf, she has as much of a duty to Karaz Ankor than any other dwarves so it doesn't make sense that she benefits materially from the expecition while other dwarves get nada.

And ultimately, it's much easier (and cheaper) to buy a gift for Ionel in our purchases round like with we did for Baba Brazinga than to do so for the Ironbreakers and the miners who helped us.

There's nothing to be concerned about, the dwarves are not going to be unhappy, or think they "deserved" the money more. They came here to settle a grudge, and as a personal favour to The Mathilde. Would having the money make them happier? Yeah, but only in the sense of "oh hey, there's Mathilde, last time we helped her we came home with a bunch of gold. Lets see if she needs any more help with something". But even if they don't get the money, they are going to be satisfied—they slew a known vampire and his troops without losing a single dwarf. That's a pretty solid win for them.

- You could claim everything for yourself without annoying anyone, but spreading the joy around a bit is the sort of thing that makes people want to be involved in future adventures.

Though the Dwarves came here primarily to settle grudges, going home with a profit will put a significant skip in their step.

And besides, the Council sent one of their most important people. Ionel is not just a priest, but the High Priest of Darmorak, and one of four High Priests who actually lead the Council. They are also doing an incredibly important job of replacing the Vampire Cults of Sylvania with a more legitimate and mutually beneficial faith, and many people in the thread, myself included, want to assist them with that. We're not giving them the money because they "earned" it, but because we want to support their cause.

Personally my calculation was "who needs the money more." And the options where a) goddamn Zhufbar or b) the newly started religion of drowning vampires.

@Boney Looking back at your collection of important information, under the Dwarf Favor section you mention that certain citizens of Tobaro might be among the only competitors for 'Top Dwarf Friend' among men right now. While I'm sure that's changed since the Karag Vlag section, were there specific Tobarans you had in mind (Oldar Wulfberg, commander of Deepwatch) or just a general high opinion based on the fact that Deepwatch ensures they're 'the only city in the Old World without a significant population of rats-bipedal or otherwise' and the Tobaran Engineering Guild's respected place?

Any time you go "This dangerous mind-affect magic has gone wrong for everyone else, but i am different. I have equipment and skill to handle it", you may just be throwing yourself on the pile of "It did in fact go wrong"

I mean drunken Tilean looters read the Scrolls and came out of it not just sane but more faithful. If anything that should indicate that they make you more sane and should be spread far and wide :V

Seriously though if we cannot live up to the standards of sanity of people who decide to loot Zandiri Mathilde would have gone mad from something else inevitably.

I think that's partially to do with that the tileans probably couldn't read all that much of the scrolls...

Mathilde being retconned to be a Dwarf means that the citizens of Tobaro are now completely unchallenged in living Dwarf-friend-ness.

(The greatest dead Dwarf-friend obviously being Sigmar)

High Nehekaran which is the language the scrolls would be in as they were written during the siege of Lahmia would have been not just a dead language at the time of the Crusades but an obscure one at that.
So the few people that would know it are niche academics or people with a lexicon. No idea what's rarer though... Still i think they didn't go insane because they couldn't either read and understand everything or stopped before it got too far.

Sure you could posit that, but we have no proof they stopped reading, it just says they read it they got scared of the prophecies and they decided to found a monastery to guard them. Guard I will note, not destroy. Even the Priory of the Scroll sees use in the Scrolls continuing to exist, they just would not trust us with it.

This is putting the cart outrageously before the horse, but if we do figure out how to make Waystones, would it be possible to turn the New Holds into Waystones like the Old Holds are?

I think that is the reason why Thorek is no board, or at least that is what he in particular is hoping out of this, though we should keep in mind that just because we can make a Dhar-Be-Gone stone it does not mean we have the codes to link our bootleg into the dwarf network.

We likely wouldn't know how to make Karak-Waystones like the ones in the Old Holds, but at the very least we could turn the New Holds into a "good enough" substitute with regular Waystones instead.

Also, on incorporating them to the Dwarf Network, the Throne of Power could likely do it: it automatically reconnected K8P as soon as it was back online, so with Thorgrim's personal help we could likely connect entirely new ones.

I do not think it would be that easy, we would first have to find out what the throne does and Thorgrim is honor-bound not to tell anyone.
