Some initial reactions to the update. One, I love Margrita, she's very fun and I want her to come back because she gives me silly vibes. I'm a purveyor of silly women and I always encourage people to make them. I especially like when they're slightly unhinged.

Two, I'm glad people are learning of adrenaline, and it's interesting to see that the Skaven apparently supplement their adrenal glands with the Organ Vat to enhance their abilities. Maybe this is why their Assassins are so absolutely bonkers in battle. Perhaps they have a bunch of large adrenal glands that boost their ability to an insane extent but only for a limited time, and they need to retreat and recover after an engagement, maybe swap out their glands for a boost. Leave it to Skaven to implement near sci-fi elements into a medieval fantasy setting.

Third, I'm very proud of Rolf and how he's grown up. I'm very willing to support his endeavour. He's giving me hope that the village might succeed, and I'm very happy that Mathilde is only peripheral to this. One of his children being Mathilde is super sweet, and Mathilde kind of brushes past it, but it's so significant as someone who was almost killed by her own neighbours.

Fourth, I'm 100% going to ask for a celebration for Eike. Maybe get her friends, whoever they are, involved. I just need to know what a "Breughel" is. Google is giving me many results. Is it a family I missed when looking through the sourcebooks? I'm going to be brushing past the books to see if Boney left any secrets anyways, but asking doesn't hurt.

Finally, I appreciate all the research Boney had to do on anatomy and/or sheep herding for this update. Or maybe Boney had the knowledge already. Boney's knowledge base is impressively wide.

I have dabbled in dual-wielding a sword and a spear for the sake of having two combat ranges, especially since for safety reasons I can't swing the shaft of the spear at people nor use it to deliberately trip people. However, I am greatly aided in this by the weapons being foam-covered wood. I have held an actual throwing spear (far shorter) and it was heavy.
Dual wielding a great sword in one hand and spear in the other seems impractical and unwieldy in the extreme

Maybe throwing in 50 gold for "general improvement in the village, or communal tools" might be nice? Dunno if that would work, maybe buy a horse and wagon for the village, for market days? Would these be ok ideas @Boney ?

Seems like a risky plan with uncertain payoff. If they specifically want milk, why not raise some goats? Afaik they have significantly greater yield.

(Trying to sound like a serious expert even though I know very little)
Well they are shepherds not goatherds.

So that might be a factor. And I may know bugger all bout milk, but sheep do have more utility with their wool vs a goat.

+ this is seemingly trying to create a new breed, which might have fairly long term dividends if it works, just ya know. Got to happen first.

If we're expecting large periods of time where we don't check on the Fief, then maybe we should invest in a vault for the money. Or at least some sort of storage.

Question: How much purchasing power does a crown hold?
Edit: I know there's not really any bigmac index on the Old World, but any approximations?

I mean, a bunker in general might not be a bad idea.

Given how WHF can be some place which they can store emergency supplies in and acts as a final fall back position they can seal themselves in if all else fails seems like it'd be a precaution, but one that might be good.

This is the kind of stuff he already has the authority to do if it's needed/useful. I don't see the need to micromanage personally. We don't spend enough time here to do a good job of it.

In regards to the money. I'd say leaving around 200 gold in reserve is a good amount. Enough to deal with any sudden outlays, but not enough to be that tempting.

You nod. "Is there some sort of ritual or ceremony for taking on an Apprentice?" You'd asked Regimand that about a month after he'd officially taken you on, and he'd told you that it had already been done. You never managed to get a straight answer out of him as to whether he meant that some part of your esoteric early lessons had incorporated that, or whether your presence hadn't been required for it.

"If you believe your Apprentice would benefit from one, we have templates available of many themes and styles, and agreements with the Ambers and the local Cults to use their facilities for such. If you want to get really elaborate, just wave a bag of silver within earshot of the Breughel."
This has been bugging me for some time, so cheers Boney for giving my unvoiced questions on the subject an answer. Anyone got suggestions for a suitably mystifying one Mathilde can give to Eike.
(like Filipinian Kali)
I'm sorry, but it's Filipino, not Filipinian. Kudos to you for not using Philipinian though, or some other variant.

Clarifying question: the last update said Eike would start at the start of T40. This update says this:
"Very well, I'll have word sent to you when her graduation tests are scheduled, which will likely be in the winter.
"The winter" is usually the second half of the year, even-numbered turns (for example, the Supreme Xtriarch fight is specifically called out as being in winter). So I'm certain that I'm missing something, because it seems like she's starting as our apprentice before she graduates, if the graduation exams are a T40 social action?

Dunno, depends on how he sees his job, if it's "manage the fief good" then maybe, but he might also be hesitant to use money without a clear benefit to us monetarily.
Sometimes you need to tell people that using money for abstract worth is ok too. Especially it it's not your money.

We already gave him our approval for this kind of thing after he did it last time. It's already established practice.

Question: How much purchasing power does a crown hold?

I'm not sure because I don't have my books on me because I'm at work, but if I remember correctly I think 800 crowns is about twice what a good craftsman can earn in a year.

A typical Wizard Lord is supposed to earn about 1400 crowns a year. So 800 crowns is very much a lot of money to have in one place.

We could probably buy a townhouse with that.

Does the village have a reliable road connection to the outside world?

Also potential idea, but we might be able to sponsor an old fashioned school house. As I recall Rolf had to head to the low lands to learn letters and numbering, and he's the only person in the village who has those skills in any sense.

I'm not sure how much it would cost, since we might have to hire someone to come and live here for a long period of time, but free grammar schools and the like have been in existance since the Tudors (at least in England.)

Most didn't attend them since the labour was needed from the kids, but I think we could set up a small school here to teach basic, reading, writing and maths (very basic stuff) around that, maybe even just as Saturday School/equivalent.

Perhaps donate some of our less important books, or get in contact with the Verenans and see if they have a young initiate or clergyperson who'd be interested in this holy mission.

In theory such a project has to last until they've gotten the skills then they can pass them onto their children, but eh it depends how it goes.

Would taking rest of money to get them dwarven tools be an acceptable write in?

I feel like Mathilda has enough influence to do that automatically with a letter or quick word at this point right?

Can we lower the tax rate? It seems a waste to force people to set aside money that they can't use because it isn't theirs til we approve it, and an even bigger waste if we don't have a use for the money.

The usual question is, what are they going to use the ability to read for? What reason do they have to pursue it?
