How come the elder vampires don't just explode each other's armies with the Second Secret of Dhar?

Who says they don't? It may be that skilled enough vampires can't bring armies against each other, but they disguise it as dueling for a point of honor because they collectively do not want the Second Secret to get out as a concept. That would also mean that when an elder vampire meets a younger one in battle even if the elder is caught by surprise and has no army with them they can still dismiss the army of their rival and then crush them with the advantages of age maintaining the hierarchy.

Have the Elder Vampires (I assume you mean the Bloodline Founders here?) ever gone into open warfare with each other like that?

Neferata took out Ushoran with human proxies and agitated Orcs, W'soran died to treachery from Melkhior, Abhorash vanished, Vlad died to a bear hug and a leap from the Grand Theogonist.

I mean, it took Vlad von fucking Carstein to feed the information to one of the greatest geniuses of the age to safely unravel the bullshit that is Books of Nagash.

So i assume the only vampires who know for sure are Progenitors or the really, really big names (Melkhior might, as well as Mannfred, and i honestly wouldn't even be 100% sold on Mannfred). And how often do those fight, really?
