Yea, under the same reasoning we aren't tearing down the Waystones, we would be jumped for bringing that guy in.

To steal an idea from someone else's omake, rather than officially bringing Khatep into the project, having him as a "prisoner" being "interrogated" for his magical secrets while under constant guard might be a bit more viable. Though even that might need the deceiver to really work out.

This is not quite at the "let's make a hat out of dhar" levels of bad idea, but it feels like a pretty bad idea.
Sure it would be cool, but even if Mathilde knew about the guy, the effort of finding, recruiting, and then not getting murdered for dark sorcery, seems like way beyond us.
It may not technically be necromancy, but even as loophole happy the colleges are, there is a point where "but technically" gets drowned out by "well it sure looks like it".

We probably can't find Khatep, but if we bring Johann on a vacation to Numas we'll probably be swarmed with Liche Priests metaphorically salivating over the idea of immortal golden bodies since that is, you know, their ultimate end goal.

Yeah, like the first half of the Liber Mortis isn't technically necromancy, but you'll still be burnt for it even if you never read the spellbook at the back.

Light Wizards might be partially descended from some Nehakharan cult.
It occurs to me that Border Princes were controlled by Nehakharan at some point and they left ruins behind. Volans was from Border Princes. I wonder if young Volans ever went to ruin delving in order to figure out more about magic? If so he might be one to bring Nehakharan influance as he found useful stuff.

Also, It would make an interesting game where you play as young Volans and/or companions chasing down magical secrets trying to make sense of it in the Border Prince while dodging all kind of dangers.

Well this is fecking coincidence that can't be a coincidence at all.

I wonder was Teclis thought of it.
I suppose Teclis didn't have problems with some human magical traditions, considering druids and all

And even if it was allowed, what sort of price would he ask for?
Khatep's goal in life is to give Settra the golden immortality he demands, so the only payment he could possibly accept is magical secrets that might be helpful towards that goal.

And before somebody suggests the Gold College gives him gilding and calls it a day, you do need to find a way to fix the "undead" part first.

AU Great War of Chaos; Teclis never comes to the Empire, but Volans himself unites the magic users to aid Magnus

... Something to cause a Storm of Magic so they can cast their Cataclysm spell which restores them to life temporarily.

Teclis upon learning about Volans magical research: *screaming on the inside*
I mean Volas did look very young despite being in his 50ies when he met Teclis. Who else do we know that uses magic to extend their lives? Nehakharans of course.

Teclis might not even know if Volans was tight lipped when they first met. But this makes sense to me.

Doesn't even need to be an AU, a 20 year old Volans would start looking and he would have 30 years untill Teclis calls. That is a very long ass time to sit in a cave. Better to go Indiana Jonesing for magical secrets.

^Also refer to top of this post about what he might have found.

I think it's a small chance they are useful in this situation. Maybe, but probably not
I checked and they're notes from Lustria and the Southlands, and that's where the Old Ones' most loyal children live with the best memory of their existence. So the odds may be better than it may initially seem.
Or if they only contain things specific to the Lizardmen, that may provide another piece simply through their language and general symbolism.

Not that I'm expecting it to hand us everything we want to know on a si- I mean, gold platter, but it may actually provide something.
