I kind of favor Ranald here, for purely OOC thematic reasons. Sheer random chance lead to this happening, as but the latest in a long string of implausible but entertaining and thrilling outcomes that has lasted for nearly as long as the quest has existed.

Translating that to the quest, It only fits then, to acknowledge Ranald's role in this.

I'm in favour of Wizard- nullify would actually be the *riskiest* of the options. And Ranald… eh, I think there's a limit to how much I want to keep his father, the Emperor, in the dark.

"Broadly correct. It was a Dryad warweald aligned with Coeddil."

He coughs into his flagon and only just manages to keep from propelling some of it across the crowd. "Drycha?"

"Who?"

He blinks at you as he wipes his mouth. "Was it led by an Ulgu Branchwraith?"

"Yes, but I didn't get her name before I cut her in half."

He stares at you for a while, and sighs when he realizes you're serious. "I think we need more kestrels. Can you tell me the full report?"
You're his godmother, you're a Wizard, and you have a more well-rounded relationship with our God than I do. And you're the only one, apart from Him, that I can talk to about this. Please, give me your advice."
Giving Paranoth a spittake and having Heidi open up to her friend, co-religionist, and godmother of her child bumps this update up to my top ten overall favorites.

As for the choice presented, my vote is for Wizard, because it'd be a good for Wizards, and for the Empire, in the long run, plus it may yet be one step closer to Ranald getting a fifth face.

edit: It might also mean that this image I made might become quest canon lol.

pre-approved suitors presentation gifts
Think this is meant to be 'presenting gifts'.

which is a strong indication that either the groom has already been selected and there is no need for the engaged couple to get to know each other.
The 'either' here should probably be removed.

You would rather lose your eyes than hands than your capacity for magic
'eyes than hands' doesn't look right.

I am thinking Wizard but could be convinced to risk it all for Ranald.

It is so early tough, at 7 we can't really make an informed decision on his character.

Welp in that case I am voting wizard. Who knows maybe he will lean Grey and we can take him on as an apprentice after Eike. Nulify on the other hand feels almost impious when we suspect this has something to do with Ranald... and it is also boring as hell.

It really isn't. Ranald option risks it all. Wizard Mandred probably won't be Emperor, but Ranaldian magic-using Mandred might even lose the title of Grand Prince.

Mandred is the result of improbable circumstances, so obviously in the highly unprobable event this goes off without a hitch, we are golden.

And since it was, so shall it be.

Gamblers logic is undeniable.

And so so scary.

Wizard seems like the choice here. Ranald (the choice) is the most obviously favored by Ranald (the god) but I think Wizard is an acceptably high gamble, and I don't think we need to go all-in on this to keep our Patron's favor.

I'm frankly partial to the Wizard option here. Ranald wouldn't have given us the option if it wasn't at least a chance that he still could go on to become the first Wizard Emperor.
Ranald has given us a gift, one to his most favored, and to one of his priestesses.
I say we go Wizard.

The thing is, why would we want the Emperor or Elector Count of the Reikland to be a Rnaaldian miracle worker.

Look at the spells. Look at the Divine Marks. None of them particularly seem like things that are sufficiently helpful for a Warhammer ruler to be worth it, and many of them are actively detrimental.

Remember that part of his job will be riding at the front of a battle with a runefang killing enemy champions. Ranaldian miracles are one of the worst options for this. For the actual statecraft bit, Ranaldian magic isn't anywhere near the best either.

The other consideration is that we've seen how much difference that the right equipment can make to a wizard, so with Mathilde's contacts and the Emperor's wealth, Mandred can be given a very significant advantage in that front. As an example, while Kragg may be more difficult to convince; I could see Thorek being willing to make a Dhar burning talisman for the Emperor's son; if he can work out how.

Similarly, it may be possible to get something extreme like an elven archmage as a tutor for him.

The update itself rather puts a hand on the scale when it comes to describing each option. The only big downside Wizard is given is that he won't become Emperor but will still become the Elector Count, and that's not exactly the biggest one considering that it still talks up the benefits. The other options don't really get their benefits talked up and instead get their downsides focused on.

Because it's being described by a Wizard.

Honestly Wizard makes a lot of sense to me, the likely downside really isn't that bad, as mentioned by Mathilde there's a good number of other solid candidates. Meanwhile the likely upside of better integration of wizards into the empire, is really very good. Plus there's always the longshot that he goes super hard and becomes such a success he actually does end up emperor even with that baggage,

Meanwhile the upsides of a Ranald anointed as emperor honestly don't seem all that compelling to me personally. While the dampeners are just a big turn off.
