Wouldn't that also be the case if he were a wizard? Do Reiklander nobles dislike Ranald more than magic?
Nobles might dislike or fear wizards, but wizards are not so often, or so obviously, at odds with nobles.
Wizards have gotten a kinda sorta divine stamp of approval from Ulric and Sigmar via Magnus.
While Ranald is allowed as part of empire pantheon largely due to combination of the principle of "better in piising out than out pissing in" and "too big/powerful/influential to ignore".

I say either wizard, or some divine power that's less likely to cause him to be ousted if it gets discovered. Nullify is just a bad option; denying somebody a gift without giving them a choice in the matter is just a recipe for resentment and seeking 'alternate sources' of power.

Ulrican emperors have held Ghal Maraz without issue, such as Sigmar. If he's a priest of Sigmar, he becomes ineligible to become emperor because priests can't inherit titles.
Well, good thing that the office of Emperor is decided by vote, isn't it? :V More seriously, precedent would be entirely on Mandred's side, given that plenty of Grand Theogonists went ahead and declared themselves Emperor and it went unchallenged... in the parts of the Empire that still attended the Elector's Meets, during the Time of Three Emperors.

Ulric disdains magic or something right?
The Cult of Ulric usually says so, but Hubert disagrees and the Winter Wolves seem to like him.
Plus also as mentioned in previous posts on the subject Ulric also disdains guns and *gestures at the actual reality of the warhammer world.*

Worth noting that whatever the nominal opinion of ulric on magic is, Middenheim the center of the cult had a fucking wizard and alchemists guild way way WAY before Magnus the Pious got that shit legalized.

I think its more likely they will support legitimate claim to someone who is wizard (which they will hate and oppose but suffer through) than they will of someone who is beholden to the entity that periodically supports people that attempt to dismantle the entire system through which they get power. At least that is the reasoning i suspect.

Also, my idle speculation on rumors being spread of Heidi and Mathilde having an affair was somehow confirmed in this update. It was a nice bit of levity to the following tense conversation, especially since Mathilde dismissed it so readily. I suppose she's grown enough to not be flustered at all at the implications. Old Mathilde would have probably been pretty embarrased.

Initial commentary on the update:

- Karak Azul is really shaping up to be a diplomatic/economic powerhouse with Kazrik and Edda at the heels, it's going to flourish as the new canals link the Old World together and hopefully usher in a more stable Era of growth.

- Speaking of canals and trade, we're on the precipice of a huge shift in geopolitics as the Old World grows increasingly interconnected. I can't wait to see the chain reactions, we've already seen Laurelorn open up, greater collaboration between the forces of Order will make for a safer world.

- I'm glad we chose to follow-up the social investigation into Drycha with both Cadaeth + Paranoth. They each had a piece of the puzzle and useful insight for Mathilde. Now we know what we went up against, and what to expect in the future. This could be relevant if the Ghyran Nut we bought from Uzkulak is actually from the Tree of Ages.

- Personally as a gut-feel I'd like to gamble big on Mandred becoming Anointed. It would really fit the "divine heist" themes going on if he becomes Emperor. But that might be too risky if we get caught, so I expect the thread to go for the safe "Wizard" option, as it still makes huge progress for Wizard rights.

The typical Barazdeg consists of a day of festivities which culminates in pre-approved suitors presentation gifts for the maiden and her Clan to evaluate their worthiness,
Possible typo: presenting? gifts

Also @Boney who's the current Royarch of bretonnia? Is it Louen?

Feels like the best option tbh. Powers of a Ranaldian Priest are not very suitable for an Emperor, and we would be gambling very heavily indeed. It would be a very good thing to have a Wizard in charge of Reikland for all of the Colleges, and I think this is sufficient.

Empress Roswita also sounds pretty good, much better than a 7 year old still developing a personality.

Yeah, I can see downsides and upsides for all these three options, so I'll just throw everything in for now and be open for the further arguments from the thread.

When Mandred starts to interact with ambient Winds, he should be trained as a Wizard. For the son of the Emperor, all sorts of allowances could be made to keep the disruption to his life as minimal as possible.

mhm, tempted for Ranald to roll the dice some more to try and go for some uber gains. Also reminded of divinly empowered humans and the bullshit they could accomplish like Sigmar or Nehekahara but the first is something I don't think were getting unless the kid earns it as boney like's to put it which means rolling multiple 6s and the latter required centuries i believe to build up their magical lore and power, also Rieklander nobles more used to magic then a Ranaldanian out to get them is ugh, concerning since it only takes one 1 on a dice roll to big oof the kid if it get's out before he does something big.

decision decisions, mhm

Reiklander nobles are used to magic and generally see it as similar to gunpowder: more useful to have around than it is dangerous to have around. Most of them would have been educated in Altdorf.
Well, I was already learning towards wizard but now I'm pretty sure I've GOTTA because it'll be hilarious for all the Reikland nobility to be performatively blase about their wizard elector count.

Empress Roswita also sounds pretty good.
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it happened but also the canon big challenger to Karl Franz was also Boris Toddbringer which is not exactly the worst for our current political goals either since he's in good with Laurelorn.
