If we recruit an experiened and trusted Lady Magister Porter, I don't see that LM Egrimm will be cleared for any more than she will. So promoting him doesn't seem to get us much more, directly. If we can't come up with another 1-Favour option for payment or recruitment (any ideas?), I'd actually be quite interested in:

It gets us Egrimm's eternal* gratitude.

*Assuming he is not yet a cultist.

I wouldn't want to go all in here, because we are going to need to be able to spend AP bargaining with the jades as well. I'm especially wary of the investigate and sabotage actions, as the light has a number of ways of screwing us over, and Alaric is very good at Hysh. Those actions are at 2 favors for a reason.

Great Incantation of Tahoth

Once invoked, the God of scholars reveals secrets even lost to the Mortuary Cult. Due to Tahoth's summons, souls are called more freely from their realm.

It seems that Tahoth is the Nehekharan God of Scholars.
There's a list of Nehekaran gods in Lure of the Lich Lord, page 65.

Quoting it:
Tahoth: The Scholar of the Gods, patron of knowledge and wisdom. Tahoth appears as a slender but fit man with the head of an ibis. He can also appear as an ibis with silver feathers

OK, but what's the worst that could happen even if we get noticed? He attacks us? That would stop his ambitions of coming back In it's tracks. He complains that the Grey are snooping around? It's almost impossible to throw a stone and not hit a Grey that's snooping around something. I don't even think we would be the only ones of our order snooping after alric. Sabotage is another thing but I'm also not advocating for that.

"Tahoth Trisheros" makes me think of Hermes Trismegistus, the syncretic figure of Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth that's said to be the founder of Hermeticism.

I have no idea if that's what Boney's going for, but I could see it.

I don't know what Trisheros means in this case, but Total War Warhammer has this:

Great Incantation of Tahoth

As @Mopman43 mentioned Tahoth turns up a couple times in Lure of the Liche Lord. He's the god of scholars and knowledge and is also the protector of knowledge and gamesmanship. Trisheros meanwhile is a theonym from Mycenaean Greece, meaning "Thrice-Hero". It's believed to be linked to veneration of the dead. Unsure how it plays into the waystones. Maybe the idea is that the Nehekharan pyramids are connected in some way and the Light Order got their traditions from there?

I think that so long as we actively do not oppose Alric, but stick to poking around, he'll probably get annoyed, but is unlikely to be able to do anything particularly horrible to us over it while out of power. He could probably get our agents kicked out, or make our lives a bit more difficult in talabecland, but that's about it so long as we don't actually act against him. The big cost here is AP, in that we need to actually do an investigation to pay off the favour, which probably consumes one of our actions.

And when he gets back in power I think he's probably politically savy enough to bury the grudge so long as we stay out of his way at that point.

I would say I'd like to get the not-Matriarch on our side more than anything else. But I'm probably unwilling to pay the price. Library (ow) + denounce +introduction doesn't get us there. We'd need to at least investigate him. But that is pretty scary.

I'm thinking Investigate + Introduction? Investigating should be within our abilities if we play our cards right, especially since we've already got Talabecland feelers going on.

Getting Elrisse in return seems excellent, but I'm legitimately not sure whether Egrimm would appreciate us getting him promoted - if he would, then that's an easy pick, but a number of people have raised what I think are valid reasons to think that he won't be so happy getting a promotion through politics instead of merit.

If Egrimm can be promoted to Light Magister is likely he already fulfills the requirements and it's just a question of political capital on Mira's part that he hasn't been promoted yet, after all i imagine many are unwilling to take away Alric's right hand.

getting Egrimm promoted is unlikely to be appreciated by him, given that similar political games stopped him from getting LM in the first place.
I know people are looking for arguments against promoting Egrimm because they think it's a waste, but
"He would not like being promoted because it's like that time he was denied the promotion" it's not a perspective i was expecting to read.

Again, Egrimm already believes he is owed the promotion, we are not giving it to him because in his eyes it's already his, we are just using our resources to cut through the red tape.

yah feel like he deserve it tbh, I think he knows he deserve it and promote action it just cutting through the red tape permanently unwedding him from alric and further weakening alric power

Reasons we should get Egrimm to LM:

- he's ambitious. Regardless of "who got" him the position, he'd have the position.
- it allows him to say No to Alric without repercussions (or at least with the option of a duel instead) should Alric come back.
- it removes his reasons for resentment. He is being recognized for his worth and talent, even if it is the grey order instead of the light order doing it.
- it puts him in a peer position to us again, which *might* be good for our action economy, especially if we can send him south to K8P to set himself up with the main WEB-MAT location and the library we are building out.
- it puts him in a peer position to us, which will help him relax around us.

Yeah, Lady Magister Mira asking us to sabotage Alric without even knowing what he's doing doesn't inspire me confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if she used the information from an investigation to sabotage him regardless of whether he's doing naughty stuff or not.

If he's genuinely trying to help I wouldn't want to be complicit in Mira's machinations.

After all, I find sabotaging your direct superior much worst (treason?) than micro managing your subordinates.

It's not so much about the rank per-say, but about letting Egrimm feel in control of his own life. Under Alric, I don't think his resentment was purely about the lack of promotion, but also about how he had very little freedom, with Alric controlling every bit of his life. I don't want to give him the impression that we're fundamentally the same as Alric - if more pleasant to work with - and him securing his promotion solely as a concession to us is probably going to paint us as the same sort of controlling person as Alric. I think that sort of realization would demoralize him, and would cause a bit of a rift, as he would see us as potentially another shackle to escape.

I just refuse to believe this is Egrimm.

I don't think he would turn it down, but I wouldn't expect much gratitude either.
