Which old chapters do all you good folk find yourself rereading the most?

For me it is the Elector's Meet segments. Just so juicy in characters we seldom see combined with a lot of momentous plot development.

The Laurelorn Arc. The fluffy moments between family that are easily located. The duel with Skulltaker. The Beastmen buildup. The return of Oskana and her time apart/perspective.

Middle of a reread right now honestly (just read the end of the Vampire War actually) and of the parts I most enjoy are the ones coming up: Karak Ungor, Punching Caledonian Ass-hats, Lovely Laurelorn and all the wonderful fluff!

But king of this all is actually not a true chapter/tread of the quest...
To me, it's the "Why the High King regards Freddy so highly" as its encompasses all of what has made Frederick so beloved both irl and in quest and also a good taste of Torroar's excellent writing, even when it's a minor detail yet a large part of the quests setting.

Buts that's my opinion.

P.s also ofc love all the sidestories everyone has contributed.

For me, one of the crowning moments of this quest was when Freddy started screaming Zacharius! name with all the emotion of a Dawi watching his brewery and family getting destroyed. It still affects him just as strongly years later. Not to mention, when he went full mini Magnus the Pius on that bloodthirster back when he was just a mere man and later achieved the kind of rage only known to champions of the blood god. At this point in the quest, we are accomplishing the kinds of feats accomplished by Archeon, who incidentally once stole a black ark. If we ever kick the bucket, I hope we go out like Sigismund and receive the highest honor chaos can show. A respectful burial and a quiet death while desperately hoping we never somehow return.

Marvelous Marienburg, my favorite arc without a doubt. The politics, the drama, torroar's description of the city, the keelhauling, the encounter with the Norscans, it is by far my favorite arc of the Quest and some of my all-time favorite fantasy writing.

Shit, I need to go reread it now.

I like count of plagues, Laurelorn, Vampire war, cathay, and albion

Among them, Albion and vampire war compete for my favorite. between those two, I think albion wins.

The marriage and Festermarch. Love seeing the outsider perspective, the dissonnace bettwen knows and expirience being followed up by descriptors and justifications, really puts into perspective the impact we have on the world.

And turn results funnly enough. I'm just a sucker for good strategy elements in narrative setting. Not the number rising part but the impact on common man and world in general.

if i reread this story, i do it usually full, with exception of the start (about up to before the vampire war) because of early installment weirdness (remember that random chaos war band butchering, like, a thousand ogres over a single roll?) and the various training bits where they mutilate each other because family hurting each other as a sign of love and care triggers massive discomfort and disgust in me because of abuse trauma

The Bugman contest and right after karak ungor. Bugmans because it's so epic and I like to listen 2001 space odyssey ape music with it. And after the KU ark because of the Chad solder who killed a small herd of beastmen

Um @torroar? Why is Sadrina naked in this latest chapter when she was described as clothed in the previous one?

I've been trying to puzzle out how she lost her clothes and I can't figure it out.

Um @torroar? Why is Sadrina naked in this latest chapter when she was described as clothed in the previous one?

I've been trying to puzzle out how she lost her clothes and I can't figure it out.

Those clothes were forced onto her by Alyssa, and every different piece of the outfit came from a different Asur slave, who was ritually tortured to death, and were being used as dead mannequins for a makeshift shopping/clothing try-on montage for just the two of them. Every single thread of every single piece of it, every fragment of metal, every patch of leather, was made clean and purified of the rotten, browned, clotted gore that had covered it, while the very souls of those who had once worn them were magically interwoven between the physical spaces of the threads on a layer to form a quiet but consistent chorus.

Of eternally agonized screaming.

Just on the far end of hearing, not loud enough to really be a distraction, not really. But never going away. Ever. In fact, you could learn to live with it quite easily. Like how some people can go to sleep to the rain, or white noise from a fan.

But the wearer would know. Would know that those screams on that distant edge, almost imperceptible but not quite, are of pained innocent elven souls.

Sadrina made the executive decision that wearing them was not something she'd continue to be doing, and instead salvaged up Druchii armor and shielding and weaponry instead, because at least that was made with open honest cold craftsmanship befitting Druchii rather than what Alyssa had so 'kindly' made for her.

The plan is for this knowledge to be revealed in-update, as well.

Damn…

One gets the impression that Killing Alyssa is getting really personal for Sadrina.

Well, Frederick and Hultressa, as well as Natasha and her allies, have already done quite a bit in regards of getting revenge against Alyssa. Their plans/schemes had already slowly been driving her crazy and (together with Maghda's unforeseen intervention) ended up turning what was supposed to be her moment of triumph into an utter humiliation, which made her snap and somewhat ruin her own plans.

Not to mention Hultressa's safeguards doing the following to her:
The Supreme Sorceress is soaked in blood from head to toe, and bears a great many scars across her body. Some of them are clearly just freshly healed, still angry and red, others better seen to. Her raiment has been torn and shredded, and there is a clear hitch in her left leg where something's gone wrong somewhere below the knee and above the foot. She heaves her breaths, hard but slow, a forge bellows attended to by a cripple. Her staff burns with the dark power of Slaanesh, but there is a crackle in it, a fracture, some oddity about the workings of its magic that gives off the sense of a mechanism that is damaged yet still functions. But really, apart from the absolutely monstrous rage you can see in her eye, you are far more focused on the other person on the slab right next to you, as well as the first time you can properly see of your surroundings.

And, finally, Frederick making a very sharp dig to one of her biggest insecurities:
"You think you can do better than your sister?"

For a moment, she is utterly still save for opening and closing her mouth in stunned silence repeatedly before stalking out of your field of view for a few moments and then returning in an angry rush.

The guy is just too good at getting under the skin of Druchii for his own good.

...Alyssa seems like the sort of person who's very secure in their power... right up until there's the slightest crack and then literally everyone who knows her is like "yup, time for murder".

You know, all this talk of favorite old chapters has gotten me thinking. How old is Freddy's family? ( urdug included) like I know it's been years and Freddy's definitely up there in age but I've don't think it's ever been said how old he or the others are.

    • Logan von Hohenzollern - Son of Frederick/Natasha. Alive/BD: 2327

The current year is 2344, so, for example, Frederick is 58 years old, which means that if he doesn't die on the Ark or to some other thing later on, he still has quite a lot of years left in him, considering just how healthy he is and how the LoS keeps rejuvenating him somewhat.

EDIT: This post also made realize just how large Frederick's blood-related family has become: he has a total of 18 living children and grandchildren now. The Hohenzollerns truly have bounced back from when Frederick was the only living member left.

I wonder sometimes how Fredrick's parents would think of everything he has done. He has outlived his immediate family , avenged them, become so successful midland no longer has sway and become the second greatest umgi dawi friend.

Probably "I have no idea who this person is" since I'm pretty sure he got kicked out of home by his father when he was still young.

Thanks you really , but for my autism riddled Brian just because I know there birthdays doesn't mean I know there ages because me no good at math, I would really just like a number on the character sheet to show them there age

You know, I think the Drucchi might be the bad guys
