Kirk, honestly, does not seem an appropriate name. It's completely out of place with canon names. More specifically: they aim for historical figures, particularly heads of state (USS Gorkon, USS Crazy Horse technically), not heroes of the Federation. This is also roughly consistent with ones we've bestowed on Excelsiors thus far.

In fact I'm not sure in Prime canon there's ANY ship named after a famous Captain. Maybe by 2360's they'd be looking at Archer? Kirk in general just feels gauche and out of place. Besides, we need a Caitian name.

Iron Wolf, that's a valid point and it's one of the reasons I'm not voting on names yet. Although no one's suggested a good Caitian name. Canon's a bit sparse on that.

At this point Nash is carefully studying Kirk's career to figure out how to get back on Enterprise > : P
:D

I mean, we don't actually HAVE confirmation that she's going to get promoted, do we? We're just treating it as an inevitability. If she dodges it or turns it down and comes up for the list again... you know, I'm honestly going to vote for her again, none of this stuff matters that much to me.

That being said, Kirk's methods include "take command in an emergency," "hijacking," AND "get simultaneously busted for hijacking and commended for saving the planet so they 'demote you to captain' because they're afraid of what happens if you're not in the chair."

Which of those sounds most Nash?

Eh, sometimes you get a ship with a different naming scheme than all the others. Look at the Centaur-As where they're all named after winds and weather and then you have the Bull. Consistency is over-rated.

I think it was only that Particular flight that was named after wind types.

I, for one, think it's too soon for Kirk.

Maybe one of the early Ambassadors.

We don't have a Constellation with this name and we're not likely to build any more of those. That and whomever ends up captaining it will be our new-Picard.

I'll admit to being a bit torn on that.

I would LOVE to have a ConnieBee Stargazer. An Excelsior-class Stargazer is a bit too big to fit properly into the theme of "clunky old ship."
