That's part of the reason I'm advocating for a MC heavy fleet.

They can destroy the 1 mt LCs and take down heavies with support, preferably in a wolf pack.
...Except we will be using the Lone Ranger doctrine, not the Wolf Pack.

Edit: Checked the research post again. We could use both, but I think consensus leans towards Decisive Battle instead of the Wolf Pack.

Are we actually going to pick forward defence? It seems to me that we are going to have a lot more home sectors than border sectors (something like 12 to 3, we are already about to have 7 home sectors), so there would be more sectors the combat discount applies to with fleet in being. On the other hand, more sectors with raised defence requirements, but we may not really care about that long term when we are near the combat limit. Forward defence does seem to fit our playing style so far, but the point made earlier that fleet in being helps against unconventional threats like the Borg also stands. I really don't see any obvious choice here and don't want to push either without some more discussion/a clearer consensus. The offensive doctrines also should be part of the discussion, particularly since the Games & Theory team would get the preference bonus for them.

So everyone, which Offensive or Defensive Doctrine are you most comfortable deciding on at this point (as something to put points into for the next turn or two, not necessarily as something to rush)?

Personal Preferences:
1. Fleet in Being: Defend in depth. Keep our strength in reserve. The border ships wear down the enemy while the main fleets wipe them out later on.
2. Wolf Pack: Avoid where the enemy is strong. Strike where the enemy is weak.

I'm of the same opinion on Forward Defense vs. Fleet in Being: Both offer very tempting bonuses. I can't really decide.

As for offensive, both Wolf Pack and Base Strike look promising.

I like forward defense better. Great battles should not be happening in home systems.

Offense... undecided, somewhat in favor of base strike.

Decisive Battle and probably Forward Defense, I'd say, though I could be persuaded to choose Fleet in Being instead.

I've come round to (Probably) Forward defense / or fleet in being and Decisive battle.

Captain's Log - 2307.Q2
Captain's Log, USS Enterprise, Stardate 22612.3 - Captain Nash ka'Sharren

A message has come in from Queen Izzidiera's colony world of Opteza II, or Irrizizza to the locals. They are up in arms because, well, to put it bluntly, their high queen is slacking off on my ship.

Izzidiera has kindly informed me that this is my fault. Somehow.

Ensign Spera Haran, USS Courageous, Stardate 22612.4

This morning seemed to start off like every other morning. I got up, showered, dressed, prepared to go to the nearest mess hall before B Shift. But the moment I stepped outside there was nothing but sleeping people! Everyone on the ship is asleep and won't wake up!

Think, what would Senator Leaniss do?

Maybe only Amarki are immune? I know there are two others on this ship, I need to find them.

Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 22612.5 - Captain Straal

I had ordered a detour to the Orion Union World of Celos in order to deliver a number of geological samples of considerable value to a firm there that is trusted by the Starfleet Science Academy. The geological samples are a form of previously unseen- [Chief of Staff Note: Taken the liberty of abridging this description and saving you ten minutes] rocks.

However, to my surprise, it appears that Orion Syndicate pirates were raiding the system as we arrived. After driving them off, I am attempting to aid in restoration of the planetary power and energy grid so as to finish this delivery.

Captain's Log, USS Miracht, Stardate 22612.7 - Captain Michel Thuir

While en route to the Indorians, we were buzzed by a ship that identified itself as the CDF Ronagot.

I have to say, their hail was a singularly unrewarding conversation. Basically, they threw down a challenge and then fired. What followed was actually the first warp-speed engagement I have been part of, both ships exchanging near point-blank phaser fire.

They disappeared as soon as they were about to lose shields. Actually, I have the distinct impression they were attempting to gauge the Miracht.

Captain's Log, USS Exccelsior, Stardate 22613.1

We received a distress call from within the Neutral Zone and responded, sending an immediate subspace hail to our counterparts in Romulan Space as is expected. The Devoras arrived a while after we did, and helped us attend to a Kadeshi mining vessel that had suffered a severe blow-out of their propulsion system involving prompt venting of drive plasma. Thankfully, no one was in the affected areas.

When I think of how few these people have become, it would be terrible to lose more to such a cause.

Debris from the destroyed Syndicate vessels was apparently disrupting the planetary communications array. After towing them into a high orbit, I have been able to restore communications with the surface.

Unfortunately, a complement of raiders under an Orion woman by the name of Helass is still holed up on the surface, near the geological institute. They are using transporter inhibitors and hostages to prevent the Celos colony forces from clearing them out, as well as preventing me from making my delivery..

-

Captain's Log, USS Enterprise, Stardate 22613.4

From the moment we arrived in orbit, we have been bombarded with messages from the planet. All of which more or less summarise as: "We want our Queen back!" Seems like part of Izzidiera's colony had been thinking of replacing her. For that matter, some of the other queens were thinking of moving in on her colony.

Izzidiera is beaming to the surface with me, while for some reason keeping up a charade that I am begging her not to go. In truth, I'm all but shoving her onto the transporter pad myself!

I still haven't delved too deeply in the hows, whats, and wherefores of how the Apiata work on a family level. I know Zaardmani, the good Doctor, and Leaniss have quizzed Izzidiera at length, but I've always felt awkward about it. Oh well, time to find out.

-

Ensign Spera Haran, USS Courageous, Stardate 22613.4

Myself, and Ensigns Galthis and Yelea have found each other. Out of only 750 people aboard. We have now security codes, overrides, special access. The announce system is warning us of warp core fluctuations and a possible breach. Yelea says that the effect knocking everyone out is endemic to this entire nebula. We are, in sum, doomed.

So it's time to save the day! Starfleet Academy Class of '06, here we go!

-

Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 22613.6

Negotiations with Helass have been unfruitful. She is a most illogical person.

However, sensor examinations of the surrounding surface reveal that the bedrock layer is a rock known only a few planets known as baralt-shale, which has properties that are difficult to beam through. Few people, however, are aware of the precise properties that make it so; baralt-shale will curve the path of the matter-stream of a transporter.

Using this knowledge, I will beam down with a small team into the caverns beneath the institute.

This place is so weird.

Captain's Log, USS Miracht, Stardate 22613.8

After arriving at Indoria, the technology exchange was surprisingly easy to negotiate. And when I mentioned we had a few burned out capacitors and emitters after the battle, there was almost a bigger battle on the ground for the chance to help us repair them. Suffice to say, the engineering-focused Indorians couldn't wait to see the inside of an Excelsior.

I'm back and Izzidiera is finally off of my ship!

The colony has calmed right back down since their Queen returned. I even, with considerable difficult, got Izzidiera to promise not to throttle the workers who were calling for a new Queen in her absence. Talking with some of her attendants though, I was able to actually get something productive done on this trip that the Diplomatic Service has been on my case about. There's the start of a new trade arrangement.

The whole eusocial thing makes me wonder, even if the Federation sorts out the matter of genetically enforced servitude, would a worker or queen ever really be able to join Starfleet?

Aha! Step one complete!

I knew that those nights skipping parties to study the blueprints of the Excelsior-class would come in handy one day. I was able to take a Jefferies tube to get around some partial lockdowns caused by senior people not reporting in to the computer. If you take the Jefferies tubes from deck 17 down past the tertiary computer core, you can bypass the alert lockout by running along the top of the main deflector array mounting, and then take the jefferies tubes up into the M/ARA enclosure, past the anti-matter injector. Then it's just a matter of climbing up to main engineering.

Use Jefferies tubes to get into Main Engineering and stop a warp core instability

-

Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 22614.0

Although we were nearly discovered on two occasions, we have infiltrated up from the caverns to the lower levels of the Syndicate base. By setting up a series of our own carefully harmonised transporter inhibitors, we were able to cancel out the inhibitor field of the Syndicate. They have now all been beamed directly to the brig.

Having now delivered our geological samples, the Sarek has returned to surveying.

Okay, warp core breach averted.

Next to use the jefferies tubes again to sneak into Deflector Control, modify the deflector dish to keep out the peculiar radiation from the local nebula that's causing people to sleep, and then see how many moustaches we can draw on people before they finish waking up.

Well, just as soon Galthis catches up, the slowpoke.

-

Captain's Log, USS Courageous, Stardate 22615.2

After reviewing the logs and discovering the incredible work of our three Amarki ensigns, I have issued them each with commendations. Thanks to them, the Courageous was saved from what could have been a very ignominious final chapter.

I think this is the second time that Ajam has been on a ship where all (If not most) of the Crew has passed out into sleep.

EDIT: I also like seeing Rock Vulcan use Rock Knowledge to save the day.

The crew of the Sarek were mildly disappointed to learn that this solution did not involve orbital phaser strikes.

FREE FROM THE TSUN! :lol

Poor Staal, he just wants to study neat rocks, and people keep getting in the way :D

"Right, so then we use the phaser banks to bore through-"
"No, we'll use my rock-secrets to beam through."
"Wow, Captain, you've turned down the twelve most obvious spots for an orbital phaser strike! You must have one absolutely fiendish target in mind!"

So no RP so we can only activate 13 teams for research. 30 pp which is great, 25 sr and 5sr a turn and 4 25 boosts to different races so very good overall
