How much characterization has Chen actually gotten? I confess, I didn't read some of the early omakes from before I joined the quest.

In an on-screen sense, relatively little, but characters can be characterized more than one way and develop a following more than one way, and Chen has always been there with the awesome bonus and the apparent talent for organization and highly intelligent nature it implies. She's been easy to make something for someone with a creative bent, just enough filled in to do so, and she's been around a long time.

The Romulans are...surprisingly trusting these days. I mean, holy crap, can you imagine them having done that during TNG? During DS9?

Biophage is an existential threat that sits in their neighbourhood and is, to a degree, their fault.

While true, the first joint op we saw with a Romulan ship in the entire Star Trek canon wasn't until late TNG and there was a level of active antagonism with them well into DS9, c.f. their trying to screw Bajor. We have definitely reached at least 0.5 Hendersons of plot derailment on the Romulan front and a localized 1 Henderson on several episodes of TNG and DS9.

It seems to me that that's exactly what Briefvoice was doing here. Taking an existing character who's only received indirect characterization so far (her amazing shipyard bonus), and fleshing her out in a way that does not contradict and even helps justify that indirect characterization.

Certainly. It's just it happened long after everyone else was given a chance to do so as well, so rather than add something to a new character you end up conflicting with them over an old one.

Seven Events... and it's only month one. My the quest has grown.

I hope poor Straak doesn't get another diplomatic mission for the last official Captain's Log of his second Five Year Mission.

I think we have located the source of the renewed infection from a combination of Romulan information about the known movements of the IRW Redclaw and a phased tachyon sensor sweep run in between ourselves and the Inspire.

The wreckage of the SS Skegal was found on the surface of a barren rock. Solves that question at least. We have successfully irradiated the wreck. There were signs that the captain of the Redclaw had been attempting to do the samewhen his ship became infected. Exactly what it was that went wrong is unknown though.

In any event, with the initial vector recognised, and the rest of our sweep clear, will be escorted back towards the Neutral Zone, with the appreciation of the Romulan Senate.
This still doesn't answer the question of what happened to that listening pots on the Klingon-Federation border. After all the biophaged bird of pray was found along the Romulan--Federation border. This suggests to me that there is at least one more biophage ship out there.

Have Birds of Prey runabouts on board?

It has taken considerable acts of diplomacy, but we have managed to talk through a dispute that arose between the Gaen and Ked Paddah Ambassadors, over the relative prudence of warp nacelle structures.

That was surprisingly painful, but I was able to connect with the two Ambassador and get them back on the same page before arriving at the Vulcan system.

[Gain +10pp, open path to further event this quarter]

Lol my tech cruiser nacelles are a diplomatic hazard on top of everything else.

Well, that's reassuring. We still need to make sure that the Red Claw didn't infect anyone else before we destroyed it, though.

We have rescued the loyal crew members who were largely confined to the brig. I must confess, when the leader of the mutiny informed me that I had no right to interfere as they were a sovereign starship now, I was so confused by the logic that I nearly failed to act in time. As it was, we were able to bypass the shields after we made contact with a loyalist loose within the ship. After that it was a relatively simple process to secure the ship.

Under examination, it appears that there was a criminal movement among the Caitian Merchant Marine. We are sending an alert to the authorities on Ferasa.

I remember there being a few Captain's Log events involving corruption on the Caitian frontier as well. Seems like organized crime has been a major problem for them for some time.

Nice to have a bunch of successful events, even if most of them were minor. I was beginning to forget what having a proper garrison fleet felt like.

Diplomacy with the Horta! Then we can name him Ambassador-at-large to silicon-based life and hopefully escape the room before he figures out whether to be upset.

Commodore ka'Sharren, pardon the intrusion. I thought you should know a Romulan Admiral Velim passed on her regards.

Appreciated, Captain, give her my regards in return. If she ever wants another spar, tell her to send me a message, care of Starbase 11
Hee.

It could still just be connected to the Klingon-Romulan war itself, and unrelated to biophage? Someone not wanting prying eyes too close to a major operation of theirs?

Good god, the Sovereign Citizen movement has infiltrated the Caitian Merchant Marine!
