Well, you'd expect there to be several such classes, really- but yeah, the "Daedalus-class" ships of this hullform are generally agreed to belong 'in there somewhere.' "
Also, ahahaha, sweet baby Captain Picard, I love the Gaeni Tech-Cruisers, this is just brutal. Rolled really low for what TF6 could bring to this fight but that hardly matters.

Looking at the shuttles, and based on the provided Memory Alpha link, she's roughly contemporary with, or even newer than the NX. I suspect she's the Explorer of her day.
Except that image Oneiros posted seems to have her scaled smaller.
Also, ahahaha, sweet baby Captain Picard, I love the Gaeni Tech-Cruisers, this is just brutal. Rolled really low for what TF6 could bring to this fight but that hardly matters.

Me, I just assumed that the mentat was a taste scientist, and that the Licori around the table aren't actually related to them.
The guy who's trying to write one without having his job be made needlessly difficult?
Could I do it? Sure. Do I want to? No.
I mean, if Iron Wolf had gone with the original source material and portrayed Baron Korannon as a creepy pedophile... I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be having a long conversation about how maybe pedophilia is semi-normative for the Licori. The whole point of making him a cannibal was to make him degenerate and creepy and horrifying. Not to paint the entire Licori species as "oh yeah, they're the guys with the mad scientists and the funeral rites that involve eating each other."
Look. In Dune - even in the pants-on-head David Lynch version of Dune - Baron Harkonnen wasn't going around openly threatening to rape people's children if they displeased him. Neither he nor anyone in his family ever considered the possibility of using child rape as a propaganda or intimidation measure. If he had, I very much doubt he would have been welcome at the Imperial court.
Iron Wolf's omake, at least in its original form, made it clear that they weren't bothering even slightly to keep their cannibalism a secret, and were seriously considering broadcasting a video of themselves eating captured Federation soldiers to intimidate us. These people could only possibly still be in power within the Imperial hierarchy if the Licori as a whole have at least somewhat more permissive attitudes toward cannibalism.
And to be perfectly honest, if we assume that most Licori who practice cannibalism do so in the same limited ritual contexts that many, many historical (and even a few contemporary) human societies have, I don't see why it should make them any less sympathetic. Unless you're actually killing someone for the express purpose of eating them, its a morally neutral action that just happens to violate one of our own societies stronger taboos.
Just off the top of my head, this looks like a combination of some very sticky targeting that pounded one of the Korannon Kortennon frigates into the ground, plus a lucky critical hit or two that first disabled, then blew apart, another one.

Okay, fine, just... I was actively looking forward to portraying a Licori character and not having to deal with bleedover from the weirder and creepier parts of Licori society, especially not the parts deliberately engineered for maximum weirdness and creepiness with the specific intent of having "this is weird and creepy" be people's reaction.
From my point of view, this randomly blew up over the past 12-24 hours and it's turning me off trying to do the writing I'd originally been looking forward to writing. Not so much because I can't write a compelling character who happens to practice ritualized funereal cannibalism or something. As because it represents my character being, for lack of a better term, "colonized" by an undesired trait. One that we "deduced" the Licori species "must" have in reaction to somebody else's omake, where the undesired trait appears in exaggerated form as a deliberate way to make a character horrifying.
I tend to be rather resistant to that.
So yes, yes, you can patiently explain to me why this is all perfectly fine and reasonable and I shouldn't be upset or unhappy or feel like I'm being thrown off my game. That still leaves me sitting here, stressed out and trying to ignore a bellyache and be a happy person regardless, and just wishing this whole thing would go away. So that I could write Warmaster Halkh the way I planned him before Iron Wolf's omake was written and everyone started trying to explain how Licori funereal ritual cannibalism must be normative because of XYZ.

Okay, it's 11:20pm ... okay, no hope of getting the expanded month's Captain's Log out tonight, but at least all the rolling is done and the battle is settled. Will try to write up tomorrow. Hopefully it will make sense and won't come across as Star Trek-goes-to-Woodstock.
Someone proposed cannibalism as a vice for the Kortennon as a reference to Baron Harkonnen's pedophilia in Dune, and then for some reason other people started twisting it into a general trait for the species, which kind of defeated the point of having it as a major character issue.
I've always had a fair degree of regard for your ability to understand how other people think and feel, so I'm simply going to ask: Do you understand why this might not completely remedy my problem? Why having this pop up in the middle of my character creation process is a bit offputting? Can you empathize?
I'm not going to ask you to think I'm objectively logically right in some way that can be justified to our hypothetical Vulcan friend or something.
But do you understand why there is a problem, in my frame of reference, and why "just scrape the yuck off" doesn't fully solve the problem?
Just off the top of my head, this looks like a combination of some very sticky targeting that pounded one of the Korannon frigates into the ground, plus a lucky critical hit or two that first disabled, then blew apart, another one.
Are you even listening to yourself? "Your" character is being colonized? When did you get exclusive rights to the Licori? That would be like me saying that no one else is allowed to write about Risans because I got to them first and so their entire culture and everything about it belongs to me.
If we accept Iron Wolf's omake as canon, than either a) the Licori have a weaker cannibalism taboo than us, or b) the Licori are tolerating - and at least in large part, going to war on the behalf of - a guy who flagrantly practices cannibalism despite them having our own taboo against it. Which of those possibilities reflects worse on the Licori?
Also, ahahaha, sweet baby Captain Picard, I love the Gaeni Tech-Cruisers, this is just brutal. Rolled really low for what TF6 could bring to this fight but that hardly matters.
So that takes care of the Carnage, the Fist, and the Iron. The Kortennons do technically have one more frigate still out there, the AHS Spite. However this was its status as it retreated from the battle of Gammon:
If the crew was lucky, they might have been able to crawl to a repair berth somewhere. Consider the officers are dead, perhaps they'll petition another House to take them in.
Once again the Gaeni are having a pretty good war. I think they'll get out of this entire thing down only one Tech-Skiff. In a way, I'm not exactly happy about that.
Not that I wish bad things on the Gaeni, but they aren't going to come out of this venture less reckless or less arrogant or more sober and serious about the gravity of war.
Strongly suggesting dropping the whole cannibalism thing. The point is that the Baron is, as an individual, horrifyingly evil in some sort of taboo breaking way, and his society is capable of generating that.
You don't need to put specific major vices in large segments of the society for that character trait to remain true!
Just come up with an appropriate for this fic, 'evil/horrifying/disgusting' vice for his specific character, some traits for the society where him having that vice seems plausible, if odd for the society, and go from there. No need to make the entire society weird and against genre.
