I'm more interested in the moral implication of dealing with a pre-warp civ on a deathworld, personally.
We did follow them back. We followed one of their science ships back.

Captain's Log, USS Courageous, Stardate 25025.3 - Captain Rosalee McAdams

After leaving Yrillian space, we headed directly coreward at high warp, putting distance between ourselves and the Sydraxians to avoid trouble.

We have detected a starship at a distance and have changed course to find it. The signature of the warp drive has some strong similarities to Honiani technology, but it isn't an exact match.

Captain's Log, USS Courageous, Stardate 25030.1

After a lot of fruitful talks, I appear to have become the target of an insurgent group opposed to the current Council on Vail. I will endeavour to acquire more information, but you should be aware that I am fine, and that these personal shields are surprisingly easy to calibrate one's phaser's modulations for. In any event, I have impressed many by taking down what was, by all accounts, an accomplished killer, and there is fertile ground for the Diplomatic Service to work with.

I suggest Amarkian ambassadors.

Celos City Emergency Administration Broadcasts

Please remain in your homes or in your public shelters for your own safety. Unexploded ordnance and damaged infrastructure mean that it is unsafe on the streets. The Union government is clearing these as quickly as possible, but you must remain off the streets to allow us to do our jobs...

Task Force Commander's Log, ATSF Task Force 2, Commodore Nash ka'Sharren

Life as a Knight of the Lileac has been interesting. I haven't seen this much combat since 33 Fujit.

To be truthful, I am alarmed. Far from having to inspire my charges, my chief concern is reining them in. The image of Lironh as glowing cinders is driving them on recklessly. I have managed to get them to obey some semblance of restraint. One of their escorts and a Hebrinda took a beating, but in exchange we have destroyed a full outpost and a number of small stations dotted through systems around Orion space. In addition, a pair of Syndicate cruisers have been destroyed, and a number of smaller ships, including Yrillian made Carryalls. Targets have begun to dry up, and Starfleet Intelligence and Amarkian intel have both been unable to provide additional vectors. Whatever is left of the Syndicate's interstellar forces has gone into deep cover or else fled Union space.

Ant-Slavery Task Force Progress Report

One thing that is clear in the aftermath was that the Syndicate was no longer in a position where they could hold a planet like they attempted. The Celos uprising, we are discovering by analysing signal intercepts, was never intended to take the planet, only to occupy and divert from the Duaba siege. As a result, far too much of the nervous system of the Syndicate was exposed, and the USSC, the Rixx Scrutineers, and Office 24 have all been hard at work clipping every nerve ending that comes to light. The prisons are now full of carefully detained high-ranking Syndicate members.

This includes a surprising number of elected officials, mostly from outside of the government of the day, but some within. These are being purged with alacrity. As a result, the President is about to propose sweeping new changes to legislation and the constitution. They refer to this as the Completion of the Revolution. If they can move swiftly, they can harness the anti-Corporate anger of the Orion people and make lasting changes.

FUCK YEAH

Oneiros, will we get to see the political impact (heh) of the >100 Syndicate cost before the snakepit?

edit: Also, now that I think about it, we're quite lucky we didn't get any cost from the whole Celos takeover thing that precipitated the precipice.

Oh, I hear the guillotine being oiled...

Wow, that was one hell of a quarter. It would be a mistake to count the Syndicate completely out, but they're losing a lot of ground. 50 Impact... and 0 Cost. I look forward to what @Iron Wolf and @AKuz will tell us about the Completion of the Revolution.

Do note that this isn't anywhere near over. We've managed to apppy, even with this turn, only about 300/800 Impact. Maybe a bit more, but not that much. And all the high-impact stuff we did this turn was the result of Celos and taking out the Syndicate's fleet, so I doubt we'll be doing 50 Impact a turn. It wouldn't shock me if between mopping up and regular income we manage to hit 400/800 this year (a very optimistic read of our situation could put us at 340/800 right now and 60 Impact over 3 quarters should be very doable), but we'll be back to slogging soon enough.

Syndicate's out a ton of striking power, though.

Probably the more important thing from our perspective is that we had an entire quarter with 0 Cost. It's been a long, long time since we've seen that. If the Syndicate ability to act has been pared back enough, we can live with three or four more years of mopping up. It's having Starfleet's entire political will income drained by the Orion campaign that has been so painful.

Considering how we've been calling this Space!Iraq; our victory at Celos and (hopefully) hitting the second to last Impact threshold * by the end of this year means we're at the point we could declare "Mission Accomplished". Fortunately unlike IRL odds are we'll actually see this through until things are actually finished.

*As a Reminder it went 100, 200, 400, and 800 Impact.

Fortunately unlike in Iraq we had an actual plan beyond "roll in, blow shit up, declare victory".
