"We consulted a ... very knowledgeable source, that you may be aware of," says Hayley in a careful drawl. "But both of these clients seem to have been properly integrated only after she left, so we have limited context for them."
So I guess Miran did not go on the Starseeker? :(
Was hoping for a chance to become an officer again, far away from botht he risk of discovery and the fear of having to go against her people.

She almost got it this time too!

It literally just occurred to me that the random shuttle side project that Stol and Bazeck spent ten years on is probably going to be the shuttle sent on this mission.

For the meta that's some good foreshadowing, the TBG writers must be either making deep cuts to draw this episode together, or they've been planning this for /years/.

God, it's going to narratively come down to Stol's fucking project car I added in to give flavour and character to Enterprise's officers.

thoughts on the cardassians treat proposal

Their proposal is a mutual recognition of the Orion Union as lawful government of Celos
only reason this is here is because the cradassians are pushing it. be it cardassian recognizes them or not, they have a year left at most. It's less about recognition at this point and if they will back them.
the current Bajoran government, the Cardassian puppet regime, as the lawful government there
I would say no to the recognizing them as the rightful government.. but agree to not recognize the old government ether. (basically, we are not going to recognize them, but won't interfere or meddle)
"Both sides agree that there is to be no firing unless fired upon for ships on the immediate frontier between Cardassian and Federation space.
Only decent term of the agreement

They demand that we cease diplomatic overtures to their client states
depends on what they mean. ceasing diplomatic contact with them.. a clear no. simply stopping making active and passive efforts to improve relations, but maintain current ties with them would be okay.
we demand they rein in the Lecarre and Sydraxians.
I'm.. not completely sure we need to push them to rein them in. a good concession point, as simply offering to lower this stance to neutrality on their part for anything short of outright invasion by us.
They are attempting to claim the Gabriel Expanse and we're telling them to take a hike.
simple negotiation to divide it up, and set up a C-F neutral zone between us.

Wait, what shuttle? Could I have a link to that omake?

I've made mentions to it offhandedly here and there, I can't remember where exactly, it was just a random background detail. Oh and I mentioned it in Stol and Bazeck's bios.

The most in depth discussion is in a @Simon_Jester Omake here: https://forums.sufficientvelocity.c...a-starfleet-quest.32005/page-971#post-7710525

hmm.... Here's what I told him:

Totally unimportant Setting Details said:
Well, essentially they got started early on in the first year when the shuttles recieved a minor upgrade package. Bazeck had asked Stol to take one of the shuttles out for a spin to make sure the new parts were working according to spec.

In the process they'd gotten into a discussion / argument over the merits of the shuttle upgrade package; Stol feeling that while the new parts were more reliable and easier to maintain, they'd lost a little in responsiveness.

After some arbitration from Captain Ka'sharren, Bazeck came back a week later with an adjustment to one of the shuttles that replaced the new and old parts with ones based on an Imperial Andorian one that greatly increased responsiveness.

Stol came back the next week with parts that he knew of from his time in the Vulcan Space Patrol that offset some of the issues from the parts Bazeck had installed.

For the rest of that five year mission they continued to upgrade the shuttle Robert April. They used parts from a variety of sources including: various member fleets, purchased components from Orion Hypercorps, Romulan sport grade plasma injectors traded for under the table for a case of Alderaan Whisky (Sadly not militarily applicable on a Starship scale, but an interesting Refinement of existing concepts), Klingon armouring, Amarki weapons capacitors and many other sources.

By the time the first Five year mission ended the Robert April was an extremely high performance vehicle, and in Stol's hands it flew as though by thought alone, though it was quite touchy and almost unusable by anyone else.

Nash observed that their project shuttle was quite the accomplishment; but that how good was it really if only one pilot and one engineer in the galaxy could use it safely?

Bazeck was taken by the Challenge of getting the same degree of performance out of a less... exotic system, and Stol saw the logic of making a more efficient shuttle usable by other pilots.

The next five years were taken up by the two men trying to replicate the exact same performance out of a more reliable design. So far Both have refused to compromise at all on capability and have somehow managed to make the shuttle less of a Kludge, and even eked out some more performance by making the systems play nicer together.

By the time Bazeck leaves Enterprise, he has actual production capable plans for a high performance shuttle. It is still not quite as reliable as a regular shuttle, and much more expensive but it has higher performance across the board especially in the area of handling.

While Starfleet does have teams devoted to shuttle design, they have not had the exposure to different tech and lived experience that Bazeck and Stol have had, especially hands on experience with newly contacted species whose technical specifications might not have fully filtered back yet. Overall They've specifically built a design with the troubles of the Explorer Corps in mind.

With some more Refinement from the people who actually do this for a living Starfleet could have an exciting new shuttle type on their hands.

The pair of them still regard the Shuttle as their "project car" though. Even if no one else adopts the design, they'll keep upgrading and refining it for decades to come.

Additional technical notes:

-The Apiata have been sharing some very interesting ideas with us about small ship design.

-We've managed to isolate the phenomenon that resulted in the Nash Loop, and made modifications to the shuttle's warp core.

-Commander Usha has been sharing some experimental shuttle-sized module schematics.

-You actually believe we let Miran destroy the combat cloak? Ahahahahahahahahahaha.

Probably a bit too late to change anything but I find this the least risky option. Failure of the first two options could easily lead to a start of a war (which I for one am against), while failing the Sydraxians could destablize the peace progress. The Lecarre meanwhile are a minor race that also have tried to do the same thing for us so even if we fail we are less likely to cause a galactic war.
