Slower Impulse to Warp times, greater chances of explosive disassembly and possibly random speed fluctuations aren't worth the half a warp increase for cruise.
 
I'm not going to vote.

I will say that one of the things I like about Star Trek's Warp Drive is that it supports Coming in at Warp Speeds>Reducing to Sublight Speeds>Alpha Strike>Warp Out.

If we introduce a delay it would negatively impact this.

Yeah, could argue about everything else, but a 10-12 second delay is an eternity when a ship needs to GTFO NOW.

Lower complexity = better = higher rating. Makes sense, but easy to get muddled about.

I'll let Yolodyne work out the experimental bit here on their own time and dime, thanks. For Starfleet? We need reliability and responsiveness. 10+ second charge up time to go to warp is too big an ask for a combat-capable vessel.

As others have said, the downsides are too high. Unstable warp nacelles with lag time? Not a good idea. I think the temptation Sayle may be offering, is that if we get a spectacularly good roll it may mitigate or eliminate the downsides, but the odds of that are too low to be worth it.

From the description this is just a fundamental downside of the technology, so I don't think this will ever be usable for us, it's great for civilian shipping though.

The compressor coils sound like a great way to have catastrophic failures caused by simple power flickers.

Let's keep our lust for prototyping under control for now. Have a good sized budget ready to go when we get to the More Important Parts.
