Hrm. Would a minimally expensive combat frigate be something we could stuff sufficient Science/Sensors to help deal with the Romulan Cloak @Sayle or is defeating Romulan cloaking beyond United Earth's capabilities technologically?

[X] Support the construction of a heavily-armed battleship capable of enduring combat with multiple attackers.

Trying to make a new vessel to fight 1v1 is not possible until Starfleet has one of two things, cloaking technology ourselves, or the ability to detect cloaked ships nearby. And while we could continue with more Stingray production, I feel making a battleship a type of floating fortress makes more sense. How many systems with planets does Humanity have by the way? Because if we build one battleship for each, they can hold the line until reinforcements arrive.

Last I recall, beyond Earth, we have three colonies of various sizes. Not all that much space to lock down in the large scale of things, and as long as these battleships are tough enough, they don't even need to win the fight. Just stay alive long enough to call for and receive any close-by reinforcements.

Mainly additional armor and heavily redudant systems. It should not be significantly more expensive than the NX class.

We have to make it to the Galaxy somehow, start the doctrine now.

Never mind the designation, what I actually want on this thing is a sensor suite sophisticated enough to detect cloaked ships or telltale signs thereof. That means maximizing internal space, which means the taking the biggest available spaceframe.

[X] Recommend the continued production of the Stingray as a mainline tactical vessel.

A full up battlewagon is too much concentration of force. Though we should work toward esoteric sensor types, like gravity (short range and bad resolution with current computers but still tactically useful as an early warning system) or the canon tachyon sweep.

not sure we have the industry to build battleships
we can crank out a fair number of these things.

also yay pirates got kicked out of our space for now tactical lose V strategical win

Yeah, current generation cloaking devices are basically always undetectable to current sensors, or they wouldn't be useful.

Also I'm putting down a moratorium because there's some very strange takes happening that probably deserve discussion. Like how the Stingrays are proven against Romulan ships 1v1 or battleships can hold out until reinforcements arrive (from the next two months?). Votes will still be counted, but hopefully discussion for a short interim.

We don't even need to build that many battleships. A run of three would keep our vulnerable colonies from being preyed upon, and Earth is likely replete with system defenses that would equate to any battleship design we could feasibly whip up. Depending on how we design the ship in question, we could even potentially squeeze in a few more Stingrays to act as fast-response vessels.

Edit: Even if there aren't reinforcements in the area (I hardly think we'd be dispatching them from Earth), the vessel would also be able to act as a deterrent force, dissuading any of the hit-and-run style ambush attacks that seem to be the style of the Romulans up to this point.

Yeah, I wanted to ask, is the intent that the "frigate" voting option be a more heavily armed/expensive warship than the Stingray, or less?
