If we go for new engines and torpedoes for the Stingray class, that brings the cost-per-hull to 25 Industry.

...If we can raise our industry to at least 75 in the next five years. which seems plausible with what we're saving here, that means we could build three Stingrays per year during the Earth-Romulan War at full pelt. That's twelve more Stingrays over the course of the conflict.

We might want a more heavily armed long-range class if we're going into the War, rather than just Stingrays and NXs doing most of the fighting.

What does a more heavily-armed and longer-range class than the NX even look like, at our tech level (barring installation of photonic torpedoes, which can be implemented on the NXs with minimal changes)?

A bit smaller in mass, maybe less guns than the NX rocks?

Meant more armed than the Stingray is, given that's what @Skippy's post was talking about. Something that can range out a bit further, instead of being designed for near-system patrol and interception.

Was this before or after upgrades and experience with the Warp 5 engine?

also, random thought: Could we configure the Warp 5s we put in the Stingray's to be the 'Racer' configuration to make them better responders?
(ENT: "Marauders") Maximum speed was warp 5.2, and the NX-class was the first Earth vessel to achieve warp 5.06. (ENT: "Babel One", "Affliction") Standard cruising speed was warp 4.5.
So, by Season 2, the Max Speed was 5.2 and by Season 4 the Cruise Speed was 4.5.
Aboard Enterprise, Archer tells his crew that the starship's mission is to continue forward. Tucker begins work on repairing the starship as Archer orders Mayweather to set a course for an inhabited planet nearby. Although there is an ion storm between the starship and its destination, the captain tells Mayweather that they can't be afraid of the wind. He orders Enterprise to engage at warp four.
As of Episode 1, Archer chooses an approximate cruise speed of Warp 4.

Our Cruise Speed is 3.8 and our Top Speed is 4.9.
I guess this is what we get for investing in industry instead of Warp Engines.
