Nah, they probably remark how this one ship represents such a disproportionate percentage of Earths total industrial capacity, and how we would have been better served re-investing all those resources back into the economy and waiting a few more decades, or something along those lines.
...On one hand they're not exactly wrong. Earth's produced, what, ten ships in the last five years? And only has five ships - the Stingrays - that can even hope to contribute to any sort of military action?

That's... not a lot. Especially for what's supposed to be an up-and-coming regional power like Earth's supposed to be. It really does feel like Earth's pushing a bit too hard, a bit too fast. Even with the NX being the biggest stick on the block.

We will make phase cannon production cheaper by forcing the MIC to gear up to build a lot of them!

SBD: The technology is right there. I just need you to make it affordable.
Iowa Shipyards: It'll take around 10% of our civilization's currently available industrial capacity to create a single Phase Cannon for the NX project
SDB: CHARLES TUCKER WAS ABLE TO BUILD THEM IN DEEP SPACE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
Iowa: Well, I'm sorry. I'm not Trip.
How dare you speak of Charles Tucker the Third so familiarly. In all seriousness I presume most of it goes into all the power systems. Having to power stuff that isn't straight off the warp core with something like 50 gigawatts can't be easy, especially then doing it for multiple places all along the hull. Not even counting defensive systems.
Now I want a retrospective from Trip's point of view 😝

Trip: How did I put together three phase cannons in deep space underway? Well first off, we got the prototype all crated up, just not installed. Which was good, cuz that was a piece of crap and we needed to rebuild the whole thing anyway, taught us some good lessons on building the other two out of spare plates, circuits, and parts of ships we previously got into scuffles into. And as for powering the darn things-

Reed: FULL IMPULSE POWER TO THE PHASE CANNONS!

Trip: That. Which in all honesty wasn't a bad idea, Reed just needed a reminder that we needed a lot more surge protection buffering if we're gonna bypass the EPS relays and go direct hookup to overcharge the emitters. Kinda a one-trickshot deal before you gotta replace half the manifolds and impulse energizer matrix, but it came in handy when we had to push it. Now if we did the same setup with the main deflector, it'd be a lot more reliable. Or just one really, really big shot if we needed it.

Engineer: Wait, you weaponized a engine and now you want to weaponize a deflector dish!?!? Neither of those were supposed to have anything to do with weapons for self-defense!

Reed: I already got the plans worked up! It'll be like one of the monitor-ships back in the days of the King's navy.

Absolutely hilarious!

From the Wikipedia page for Monitor warship, "A monitor is a relatively small warship that is neither fast nor strongly armored but carries disproportionately large guns". Is this enterprise small enough or lightly armored enough to qualify, I have no idea.

The third and final option is to finally shore up the aft defenses even further by doubling up on the existing cannons there. Notably the position of the ventral aft cannons at the bottom secondary hull means they can also shoot forward, though this advantage is not shared by the extra aft dorsal cannon which is constrained by the primary hull and nacelle struts.
Taking this into account, would it be possible to do 7 Phase Cannons? Only install the extra cannon that can also shoot forward? Otherwise I'm good with 8 too.
