On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Wonderful update. Izgrom is just happy to be there as always :D. And windsight does give us Runesight, so it's time to start reverse engineering everything. Aethyrbinder is going to be hype.

I think it's going to be unfortunate if we don't complete Skaud until after the fimir war ends. The ritual is definitely sus, and it sounds like it's going to detonate basically every waystone between the major ones in the fimir cities and the ones in between them. Even if the elves can fix that, it's still a huge chunk of Norsca going up in flames.

I'm not really a fan of going off as a distraction because Malekith needs to speed up his timetable for political reasons. My preferred outcome at this point is to tell the High King this is sus and have the storm come T60 so we can give him an alternative plan that doesn't involve nuking the coast. From the sound of things, the counter ritual won't be next turn so we should at least know by then if storm or not.

Worth remembering that Aethyrbinder wasn't designed with someone with Windsight who had cracked Durin's Consternation and could see what Runes do and how they interact with Winds and how both interact with a runesmiths' soul.

Snorri may be implementing the design, but the item itself was designed by Karatah who doesn't have the relevant Trait/capability.

We told her which runes to use, rather then letting her decide on this one so Karstah is doing only the physical design for it. Yeah it's still a pre windsight design combo by Snorri but I still expect it to be hype. I do think there'll be a slight chance he modifies things on the go as he forges it with windsight.

Regarding Malekith's plan?
My headspace is the play is to basically put flashy Malekith.
Use that proposed banner of counter-scrying to show up somewhere important that we pick out ahead of time to fortify because the Firmir WILL pivot to deal with us. Fight that fight, and if we win/scatter them we immeadiately race to find the Firmir'a ritual and wreck it as fast as we can-this is the time to do a Snorri Cannonball into the fortress, so that Malekith's blow it up ritual doesn't have time to happen.
Alternatively we consider handing Malekith some runic gear that helps him turn the tide, or…
Some sort of assurance he has a place with the Dawi to take the political pressure off his shoulders so he doesn't feel backed into a corner, and end up turning to Mommy Dearest if things go to pot for him.
That second one IS risky but Morathi is mostly a social/mafic operator and Runesmiths shut down Magic and Dwarves I don't think go in for that level of politicking…I guess Vragni might get an interesting patron but I'm not convinced he won't be massively offended if she's not careful.

I don't actually mind the plan so much as how it affects Skaud being ready for the final push. It wouldn't be great if the war ended before Skaud is done but it's storm dependent so we don't have much control of that. Ideally we get the storm T60 and can give the high king an alternative to the ritual by telling him Skaud would be online by T61 at which point the throngs could bumrush each city with Skaud at the lead.

Hmm, Snorri needs to use this Windsight to look at what happens when he puts four Runes on an object. Because seeing why the Rule of Three is a thing is the first step towards solving it. For that matter, he should also put two Master Runes on something as well, and Lonely Runes with other Runes, see why these things fail and what might be done to surpass those limitations.

Lots of explosions in our future, I'd imagine. But that's the clearest sign of progress there is.

If the reason for Malekith's plan is because the war is taking too long, then wouldn't speeding it up by going on the march every turn make the plan unnecessary?

Can someone recall how did chainforger started? just intrested in analog reasoning.
We met Grungi and Valaya in the Throne room on the first or second great conclave and were given 2 gifts. Valaya's basket and a piece of Gromril Chainmail. The inference we made was that were supposed to take it as some sort of challenge. Gromril Chainmail had been purely the realm of something only Grungi could make on a regular basis. We got the impression that Smednir (Black Smithing/Metal Smithing Ancestor God) and a few other ancestors had probably been able to forge it. The chain ended up being "simple" since we could cheese it with our equipment. However, it was super tedious and a labor of love for what was essentially a step down in overall protection, but it is religiously/culturally significant and we're the Ancestor of Mass Production so we decided that the real challenge that Grungi gave us was to make it feasible for the "normal" masters dwarves to make it.

Are you saying we did it on a DARE!?
That is the traditionally best way of motivating a dwarf towards something
Ancestor sure did know what he was doing.

Snorri did say that more dwarfs should act as if the ancestors were challenging them to do better.

Yeah, a lot of the beardlings act like its impossible for them to measure up to the deeds of their Ancestors, even Snorri had such a block though he was better than most it was only relatively presently that he has gained the bona fides and confidence to say (in the privacy of his own mind) that he'll someday measure up...

We've taken but the first step and to get to that point we've had to do 3 Mythical Feats, is it so surprising that the young ones don't feel they can measure up if they can't even live half as long as those that came before?

I think the issue here is that blowing up the Waystones in someone else's territory means we have to pay the cost of eventually rebuilding them,
MFW a big angry frog shows up and forces me to rebuild the waystone network but Malekith is nowhere to be found to help.
Babe wake up, new grudge just dropped.
Snorri is the most knowledgeable Dwarf in magic.

Sending him away from a very magical ritual, ensuring he can't see it and influence it in any way?

How... convenient.
Sending him away implies he'd be there in the first place. Snorri hasn't been on campaign for a couple of decades and he wouldn't have known about this at all if Whitebeard hadn't sent us a letter.
Personally, in this scenario, I'd prefer Brotherhood Calls - They need to know, and its a good vehicle for Windsight + informing Alric too.
Yeah but then we'd have to write a second report for the very next turn... Or we get double favour by doing it twice?
🤔🤔🤔
Speaking oof Burudin Challenges, do we have any promising combos to solve any of them?
Not really, we've got some proposals for the crossbow one, however of a theory in the form of multiple consecutive combos.
Depending on your mileage, the messaging one might be easier to complete by creating a runic telegraph/semaphore from Secrets of Light research however this seems to be in a position where we probably have all of or most of the runes we need to make it work, we need the spark of inspiration to strike Snorri to put all the pieces together. If you don't have a high opinion of this solution the next best guess is that the canon solution was a kind of magic mirror developed in collaboration with the elves so maybe something something try that?

Note on the Communication Challenge:
There is also the possibility of recreating the Rune of Distance from WFRP 4e's Archives of the Empire I (Page 52), which allows inscribed medallions to work as phones up to a distance of 100 Miles (Vibrates when a call is available, tap twice to answer, maximum duration of call is 10 minutes.)
A prototype could be made with Runes of [Direction/or/Transcription], [Communication], and [Alarm] (Concept: Listen, Link, Speak) Note: Alarm and Communication found in Realms of Sorcery 1e. Unknown if quest-dwarf has them (Not on the Rune List; at least not under those names.). If not, then how to develop or acquire? Can Snorri just put out a flyer or something that says "Hey, I'm looking for a rune with these general properties, HMU and we can talk trades." Quick Summary: [Alarm] causes loud sounds on a trigger, and can be customized to deliver a per-recorded speech. [Communication] links two objects, allowing a bearer who has one to know the direction and general distance of the other, out to one mile.

Random commentary: All paths forward on the challenges effectively revolve around finding a turn without any major projects underway to just sit back and...experiment. Get all the "If"s and "could be"s out of the way. Seems to be Snorri's consistent plight, too many grand ambitions to spend time working on the little things. (See Studying Yorri's Journal and Suneater's Brain for examples; there's probably some third incident I'm forgetting.)

aging is a magical process so runesmith anti magic fields keep people from really aging :V
...You might actually be on to something there. Elves have long lives, and some magically powerful ones become immortal. Dwarfs are magically resistant and have long lives. Halflings are magically dead and have decently extended lives (around a century and a half IIRC). Humans, the only species with no inherent defense mechanism against magic: Shortest lifespan of all civilized species (With the exception of Wizards who tend to live long lives if nothing kills them)

could be like radiation, dwarves/halflings are resistant while elves need the radiation to live

For this, we have what we gleaned from seeing Gazul's sword. [Ties] or something like that. It was used in conjunction with [Fire] and [Cutting] to metaphorically or literally free dwarfkind (or the other Ancestors as shown) from their predetermined Fate.

[Communication/Connection] sounds like it'd be something that'd be a variant or something at a lower order of complexity to that one.

A thread-marked informational about what each of the winds "could" mean would be nice for future chapters. I'm not familiar enough with that aspect of the setting.

The first time we used the anvil, the Glittering Realm briefly became visible, although we weren't in a condition to see it. With our mythical mantle to help protect us, and our much-more-resistant-to-melting windsight eye, I think there's a good chance we might actually get a look at the Ankor Brynn and remember it this time.

Or remove a potential source of false flag attacks on the dwarf homefront. Especially if that Meargh happened to find a Monolith (and overcome it's defences) inside dwarf territory.

Going by the the text in the retainer option, if the Meargh had been left alone and rolled well, she'd have taken Ornsmotek out of the war.

It is good to know Zon Dum is up to par for taking out hero units at a Meargh's level. I still hope we can build a monstrosity of a Zon Dum combo for Skaud eventually.

Are we able to create and send the mega gronti out in time for the operation? Fimir send anti snorri counter measures then runs face first into a super dragon

If we can't, then an anti-scrying banner will be sufficient. Having them misjudge how to deploy their assets just for Snorri to appear will completely ruin the Fimirs ability to properly react to.him
