Continuing my Sentry/Lethal force metaphor ...we're at the point where I would be telling them to get on the ground and cuffing them as I called for the rest of the ships security force. This would entail using various means to non-lethally get compliance (Baton, OC spray and so forth) with lethal force being an option if the triangle got completed by how they resisted (In this case if she tried/tries to soul steal us, Mami*, Homura, random Joe #495, a puppy....).

Where the metaphor breaks down is that rather then being a police style situation this is more a... foreign policy situation. Magical girls are basically political entities that stand alone - they are beholden to no higher law then that which they submit or agree to or that others force on them.

At this point we have to turn to Clauzwitz.

Oh god, yes. And then just fall into Mami's arms. Seriously. Let her bridal carry us back to the apartment.

Kirika: *gets jelly* Oriko!!! *picks up Oriko up in a bridal carry*

Homura: .. ..... My imprisoned foes can't be this adorable. : |

Alright so, I went out, walked my pupper, had a ncie long think, and I've basically boiled it down to this.

Objective: Prevent Rionna from killing any more people by whatever means necessary.

To that end, I want the following events to occur.

  1. We discuss the situation while in timestop with Homura, Mami, and Sayaka before we take any offensive action against Rionna
    • Ideally we also include Kirika, since she is an incredibly valuable safety net against Rionna.
  2. We give Sayaka an opportunity to copy Rionna's powers before we deal with her.
I am open to giving Rionna one last chance, but I'm not sure if that's particularly realistic at this point. I'm also half tempted to just blast her with antimagic to free all her shades and try to talk again afterwards in hopes that the shock/reduced burden might cause her mindset to crack. I think at least some of why she's so evil is because she just took sunk cost fallacies to their logical extremes so if we cut her free of all that sunk cost, she might be forced to snap and reevaluate.

Or she might just spontaneously witch out. Like I said, probably not the best idea.

I can't say I disagree... I add getting information we need from Riona first, which is why I want to leave and re-meet with Riona tomorrow.

Then yes, antimagic blast Riona and her shades. Hell, make two Magic Gems and have both Sayaka and Kirika blast Riona. No kill like overkill! :o

But anyway, cuff Riona with Anti Magic; I don't think just blasting her will be enough, we need to have that permanent Anti Magic effect on her (and hope the shades aren't instructed enough to remain a problem until they pass on).

Maybe she'll be more talkative once she's been imprisoned for a few days? :thonk:

I think we should meet up with the rest of the team to discuss what to do with Rionna. Sabrina isn't the sole decision maker of the team, our friends have a say too. We should report our findings to them, discuss what to do with Rionna, and if necessary, coordinate on how best to fight her.

And yes we should include Sayaka in the discussion.

She said at some point that it takes a certain effort to maintain her control and that if she let them go, she wouldn't be able to get them back. I'm pretty sure blasting her with antimagic would force her to let go.

For the people that are voting to do something now and come back to deal with Rionna later, can you please commit to that in your vote? Add something like "[] Commit to not letting Rionna leave Mitakihara without being dealt with." All of these votes are currently fail-deadly - you need to be voting with the expectation that a shitstorm will blow up the instant Sabrina gets out of bed tomorrow and we start working toward taking Rionna down. I want to be able to discuss tactics without being distracted by trash like "[] Leave with Mami. You're done here." or "[] We don't sneak attack people, let her go" or "[] You need to get more powerful, let her fly away and you'll deal with her in a couple days".

I don't like this

I don't like any of this

I see no value in casting judgement here

I don't want to deal with the fallour of detaining her

I don't see us getting any further information out of her now that we've driven her to this level of desperation

We need to back off

Even if she is a monster, we can change that, or at least make her our monster

But it is going to take time

I don't want to destroy the chance of getting information out of her, which gemming/anti-magicing will absolutely do

I still think we need to let her go for now, but we should absolutely set up further meetings

And we should absolutely warn Sayaka to avoid anyone of Rionna's description

I'm kerping Mura's vote for now, but I'll see about writing something up when I get home

I think we should vote on who to include in the discussion after we enter timestop. We still don't know if it's gonna devolve into a fight in the next scene immediately or if we can get into timestop before that happens.

I kinda get what you mean. This is like dangling the cure (or at least a major step in developing a cure) for Cancer, Alzheimer's, AIDS, and other horrible diseases.

... The problem is that it involves working with Unit 731.

What's to get? What's worth keeping her around for? Letting her kill more people is unacceptable, and it's looking more and more like she will not accept any offer including that stipulation.

Also Sabrina doesn't really need a 'personal monster'.

and can copy Rionna and thus grant access to her power anyway.

Also we need to include Sayaka for powercopying

We give Sayaka an opportunity to copy Rionna's powers before we deal with her.

Rionna is, design-wise, a two-part character. She's got useful powers that you can't replicate.

Given Firn's quote, I'm not sure Sayaka can copy Rionna's powers. There's no reason not to try, but we probably shouldn't get our hopes up too much. If I had to guess, I would bet that Sayaka can't copy powers from people with more potential than her. Given all the meguca in Mitakihara seem to have at least slightly higher than average potential, it's probably not that big of a problem except for particularly unique or powerful abilities.

How the flying fuck is her name spelled, ffs, NAMES ARE IMPORTANT!

How could we be so blind? Obviously someone whose name is such an inscrutable mystery was going to be frustrating and morally compromised. It just goes to show, we should always take Mami's advice as seriously as possible.

And what the hell do we say to Sayaka when she accuses us of letting a relentless murderer walk unmolested?

She copied Mami fine.

A thing I've been reading lately is Ring-Maker. It's a Worm/LotR cross with a focus on redemption. What do I mean when I say redemption? Taylor is, in this, the reincarnation of Mairon.

Now, those of you who aren't fully up on your Tolkien-fu may not know who Mairon is. As a cape, Taylor goes by Annatar, one of her previous names. But the one we know her best by? Sauron.
Gorthaur the Cruel, the Abhorred himself, is the protagonist of a story of redemption. After all, one of Tolkien's central themes is that nobody is born evil.

She said at some point that it takes a certain effort to maintain her control and that if she let them go, she wouldn't be able to get them back. I'm pretty sure blasting her with antimagic would force her to let go.
Can we be sure the effect will be immediate, though?

[] Agree to end the meeting shortly.
-[] Tell Riona you regret that she wasn't able to find what she was searching for here.

[] Release the Field.

[] Before letting her be, call her out and get concessions in exchange for her actions, without pissing her off too badly:
-[] Priority: Arrange a new meeting before she leaves, with plenty of time to spare.
-[] Priority: She does not attack nor use magic against anyone in Mitakihara.
-[] She'll answer all our questions next meeting.

[] Go. Once you're away:
-[] Timestop meeting. Include Sayaka.
-[] Explain everything. Avoid social bombs. Don't take sides, be impartial.
-[] Afterwards, share plans to get information you need from Riona, then aprehend and imprison her.
--[] Explain how her Wish might have affected her personality beyond any help you can give in a short timeframe.

Anyone, opinions on this?

@Onmur I'm not sure about letting Rionna leave the field before entering Time stop. She's at her weakest right now, without access to her shades. We might not be able to get her inside an isolation field after this, not without her getting some protections in her immediate vicinity and/or person.

My plan right now is:

- Get Kirika to Anti Magic some handcuffs we make.

- Get close-ish to Riona in Time Stop.

- Have Sayaka blast Riona and her whole surrounding area (to tag also the shades) with Anti Magic. Optional: Make a Magic Booster for Sayaka to use in this opening gambit.

- Quickly subdue and cuff Riona with the Anti Magic Cuffs. Hope this is enough for her shades to not be a threat any more.

... Also, thinking about it, if we make a privacy field in timestop, then throw it at Riona from timestop, would she have any chance to avoid it? Specially if it's not just the privacy bubble, but physical restrains manipulated with Grief also...

I like the cut of this vote a bit better. We should include our friends on such an important decision, rather than just making it ourselves.

I'm not comfortable with the bit in red, for all the myriad reasons I've given over the course of this meeting
