- [] Oriko and Kirika
-- [] What do you tell the Pleaides?
-- [] How do you convince the Kures?

We spend a lot of time keeping secrets from people, but let's not start doing it reflexively. Don't lie when the truth will work.

Tell the Pleiades: Oriko is a powerful precog. She's already given us some valuable intel about threats in Asunaro. [Telepath to Oriko: feel free to infodump about Asunaro now, omitting the witchbomb of course.] Last week she tried to avert a potential future, got a little overzealous, made some enemies, and now she's under house arrest and she's lost her power from stress. We're taking her to Asunaro because (1) we hope the change of pace will be good for her, (2) she can't stay in Mitakihara any more, and (3) we need Kirika's antimagic power.

Kazumi is a Nice Person and will probably respond well if we express this as a mercy thing.

Tell the Kures those last three points. Ask politely, but if for some reason they refuse, break to vote.

"Mikuni wasn't enthusiastic about Asunaro when we talked," Homura says flatly. "If they'll be out of the city... then take them."
"Oriko said that she'd hate it."

*pause*

"Do it. Do it right now. And tell her that Homura sends her regards."
"How would we explain them to Kazumi and her friends?" Mami asks.

"That is an excellent question!" you say. "I'm not sure. I... Homura? What do you think?"
Is there a reason not to dump the entire story? I think that our handling of Oriko - overwhelming but ultimately nonlethal force, house arrest, a clear seed, and befriending - is pretty much how we want most situations to go and it'd be useful to have that example out for people to tell about us.

I do like the idea of bringing Kirika. I think that she and Kazumi would get along great.

I'm just reserving a spot.

Have you ever done any programming?
A little bit in college, about 15 years ago. The metaphor is not really all that apt. We don't generally write programs that actively try to deceive and mislead their users like Kyuubey does. It's not a matter of garbage in, garbage out. It's direct question in, obfuscation out.

No response - not from Sayaka, at any rate.
You had me seriously worried there for a second.

She walked the whole way from her place to here in time stop with Homura and she still wasn't fully awake?

"Oriko was in a bad place and did some bad shit," hug Sayaka, "but we beat her up and convinced her to try and do better. Both of the helped end a meguca gang war in Sendai that could've end up with dozens dead and whole blocks destroyed."

(Hey, that's like, training for Walp!)

Also, I want a word with Sayaka.

Something like: "I'm sorry for pulling this on your first big mission, but Oriko wants to do good, suicidal tendencies aside... Can I trust you to try and do the right thing, regardless?"

Kazumi was able to copy our chibi, so if we grief up an anti-mindguca item, she might be able to copy that as well?

Getting approval from Homura to take Kirika and Oriko out of the city is big, although I would prefer to only take Oriko along if she actually wants to come. As a last resort Sayaka could copy Kirika's anti-magic although that might mean that we'll need to have a one-on-one talk with her first, which is probably a good idea anyway due to the whole "Oriko burnt down my house and I hate her" thing.

As for the girls coming with Nadia: Someone should definetely stay behind to greet them, since it's unlikely that we'll be back in time to meet them. Homura is fine since she's part of the core group, but maybe we could ask Masami and Hiroko to also help out?

This also makes me think: didn't Masami and Hiroko sound pretty confident that they could find our missing girl through some sort of illusion trick? Maybe they would also be helpful with picking up any trails. It's kinda a shame that we don't really know all that much about them.

Kazumi nods sharply and turns, looping her arms around her friends' waists to tug them away. "We'll be waiting," she says.
So *this* is how Kazumi leads, eh? By the waist. :p

She has Sayaka, as requested, but the bleunette looks mostly asleep still - transformed, but somehow still dishevelled and hanging off Homura's shoulder for support. Homura, on the other hand, stands ramrod stiff, obviously uncomfortable with the contact.
I think it's been said, but damn is this good progress.

Homura willingly maintaining contact with Sayaka of all people, all the way here?

Doka darn.

Because someone broke into the Asunaro girls' lab, and stole the Clear Seed I have them," you say tartly
Sabrina is Tart CONFIRMED.

"More than that?" you clench a fist. "Clear Seeds in the wrong hands would be devastating. I cannot let anyone think they can steal one and get away from it."
With?

Mami says, nodding. "I... Sabrina, you're everything."
Omg Mami, just...

I think this merits an upgrade, like, next time Sabrina kisses Mami, just hold the kiss for a few seconds?

"Mikuni wasn't enthusiastic about Asunaro when we talked," Homura says flatly. "If they'll be out of the city... then take them." Amethyst eyes hold yours, almost hypnotic. "But be on guard."
:o

We really need to get down and dirty with creating a larger organization with a better distribution of labor. Right now we're acting as a large network of alliances hubbed almost exclusively through Team Mitakihara, which is an inefficient way of going about things. We really need to write up a formal constitution or contract of some sort, decide on a name, and otherwise officially start the Hotel. That way we can call on Misami & Hiroko, Homura's timestop, or they can call on our cleansing ability, and we don't have to worry about our friendships because now it's a formalized job.

Of course, this means we'd need at least a core coven in a big room for the first meeting. I'd say Team Mitakihara, Madoka to represent Potentials in the system, Hitomi/Haruka to represent Human Sponsors, and at least two other "Groups", which I suspect will be some number of the following: our new immigrants, The Kures, Misami & Hiroko, or Kyouko & Yuma. Nadia can be present if she wants, but I doubt she'll want membership.

I just want to formalize this. Also, we name our attacks, why don't we name our teams/covens?

It never should have been, imo. *shrugs*
Why are you so against this? It baffles me.

Anyway...

"Someone should stay here to defend Mitakihara. Except, you know, if we just used timestop, in which case, having someone here to defend the city would be pointless. So why don't you come along, Homura?"

Seriously, Firn, why did Sabrina suggest someone stay to defend the city? Wasn't she supposed to ask Homura for timestop for the journey?

Businesses sometimes adopt constitutions as well. I don't know, but I'd guess that was what the American Colonies original constitutions were.

We could adopt a constitution as a business and grow from there.

    [X] Thank Homura. Seriously.
    [X] Get moving.
    [X] Strike team: Mami, Sayaka...
-[X] Wake up Oriko and Kirika. Explain the emergency, how it affects both your friends and the future of the Magical Girl world.
-[X] Ask them for their help. They've proved their worth and their will to try and do good in our eyes. Oriko might seem crippled, but we know she's a lot stronger than she thinks. (Lasers are fuckign cool).
-[X] Tell the Pleiades that Oriko and Kirika are ex-Magical Girl criminals who've been helping us after we had a... talk. Details may be shared at Sayaka's discretion.
[X] Depart for Asunaro, picking up Oriko and Kirika if they agreed to help.

[] Strike team roster:
-[] Mami
-[] Sayaka
-[] Oriko and Kirika
--[] Briefly explain the situation while you're on your way over - Precog was a bit broken, Hard Woman Making Hard Decisions, you beat the snot out of her and now you're friends. Homura and Sayaka are still suspicious, though, so they're still under house arrest.
--[] Provoke some Kirikaness at the first opportunity. You bet that Kirika and Kazumi will get along perfectly. Even though Kazumi has somehow gotten all of her ojous to follow her? Whatever, they're from asunaro, everything over there is all hinky.
--[] You doubt you're on any future that Oriko saw. She needs some time outside doing something. Rehabilitation! Oh, and Kirika would looooove to make some new friends.

Worth thinking about. But we're in a bit of an odd position for a purely business contract, I think - Necessarily we have to step into our constituents lives if they start getting too depressed, otherwise murder-suicide is 100% guaranteed.

We also have to think about Clear Seed distribution. I'm thinking if we tie it to membership in some way (preferably a way that makes it slightly annoying, but possible, to get a Clear Seed without membership, that way we can draw people in with convenience without forcing them in for the Clear Seed) it would be best, but it's definitely something I want to run past you guys and past Mami, Homura, and especially Sayaka. After all, since she seems open to being THE LAW, she's the one most likely to be dealing like situations like the one now in the future, plus the one most inconvenienced by a larger population of Meguca. Not to mention the hardcore Lawful Good in her is a good baseline for writing Good Laws.

Above all else we need good Advocacy for any plausible position when we go into the Constitution. We need to at least attempt to outdo Thomas Jefferson in our Constitution writing skills.

Can we do something fun for once and greet the kuros by putting on our best Farnsworth impression?

"Good news everybody! I've volunteered you both for a dangerous mission!"

After reading the options as given... Not optimal.

Not because Homura isn't coming... It's because Oriko and Kirika are both clashing with Sayaka, AND are the equivalent of forced recruits in some ways. During the previous such outing, Mami wasn't predisposed to starting an argument and blurting out things you would have liked kept private...

Sayaka is exactly that kind of person however, and Oriko's presence would make it all worse.

It's one of those situations where you and Sayaka would probably end up in one "team" with Asunaro girls, Mami would end up as a minder on the Kures (and additional firepower, because Oriko has never been a powerhouse in the best of times) - and we'd have to hope no sudden reveals happen.

Or as @Vebyast suggested, give the cliffs notes version on the way there.

It's refreshing to see that sort of optimism in the world, because computers are honestly worse than the Incubator by a country mile. (And I am at least 55% serious; the metaphor is more apt than you think.) Regardless, the theory of iterating your code (the questions we ask) and testing your output (experimentally) holds long past the point at which the comparison breaks down. This isn't rocket voodoo.

Let's get the ball rolling? ;)

[X] Thank Homura. Seriously.
-[X] Tell her she might have to receive the Shiogama girls arriving at 10:00 AM. If so, recommend getting Hitomi's or Madoka's help?

[X] Apologize to Sayaka for pulling this on her first big mission.
-[X] Is she OK with it? Offer reassurances if necessary.

[X] Get moving.
[X] Strike team: Mami, Sayaka...
-[X] Wake up Oriko and Kirika: Explain the emergency, how it affects you and yours, and future repercussions.
-[X] Ask for their help. They've proved themselves in our eyes.

I've already explained why.
Mind linking me to the post, or something? I never saw it.

---

Anyway, I'm just frustrated that Sabrina framed the entire situation wrongly. Yes, a Clear Seed was stolen, but the real problem was that Niko was attacked. Our ally was attacked. And we should have asked Homura to come along, timestop and all, not for the purpose of scouring the entire city, but for the purpose of saving time and actually being there to welcome the refugees when they get here in the morning.

[X] Ask Homura if she's willing to come along so we can do this in timestop--so that we can be back in Mitakihara in time to welcome the Shiogame immigrants.
-[X] Emphasize that our new allies were just attacked, and our visitors need to get back ASAP. Also, that you have an idea of who the culprit might be, and where she might be.
-[X] Point out that, by doing this in timestop, no one needs to stay behind in Mitakihara anyway.

[X] Strike team roster confirmed: Mami, Sayaka, Oriko, Kirika.
- [X] tell Kazumi's crew about the Kures.
-- [X] telepathy to Sayaka and Homura: Our goal is to move Oriko to Asunaro permanently, so you won't have to put up with her. Please don't be mad when I say nice things about her. : )
-- [X] Start with the hook: Kirika has antimagic powers which will be vital in this investigation; Oriko was a precognitive and can give us valuable intel.
-- [X] History: Oriko's had a hard life and isn't used to people trusting her, and it's given her a bit of a martyr complex. When she wanted to avert a bad future, she chose unilateral action rather than asking politely. (She tried to save Sayaka's life by burning down her house. We were very angry.) We have an understanding now, and if she gets visions in the future she'll talk to us before burning anything else down.
-- [X] Oriko is under house arrest after the house-burning incident, and she's lost her powers due to stress. We think getting her out of Mitakihara will be good for her as well as for Asunaro. We hope you'll be nice to her. She needs friends.
- [X] tell the Kures: (1) we need your powers, (2) getting out of house arrest will be good for you, (3) it also will be good for Homura, and we need Homura stable if we're going to win this thing.
-- [X] BTW: we are going to win this thing. Don't have faith in yourself; have faith in me who has faith in you.

- [X] pre-trip science:
-- [X] Sayaka, please copy Kirika's antimagic power and hold it, I want to try a quick experiment.
-- [X] telepathy to Sayaka: Kirika goes berserk if anything threatens Oriko. Here's a test. I want you to imagine me punching Oriko in the face repeatedly. Is that okay?
-- [X] if Sayaka isn't affected by the test, then she can take Oriko's power too. Use with caution.
- [X] departure: welcome to Sabrina Night Airlines! We have hammocks and relaxing music. Feel free to nap!

[Q] enchantment: Kirika, Sayaka, Mami, Sabrina: everyone try making antimagic helmets, especially ones that won't interfere with the wearer's power
- [Q] actually, let's not experiment with antimagic while flying on the griefplane
