On an actual on Topic note, Is Sabrina taking Hitomi and Sayaka to Oriko's right now or planning to sometime later?
Pretty sure the plan is to do so tonight, though with @Kaizuki and so many others deciding that we don't need to give Hitomi and especially Sayaka a stern warning about the many reasons that becoming passionate and violent can go extremely badly I'm fairly certain this is going to go very badly.

TBH...

I don't think any reasoning we can give them will keep Sayaka from blowing up if Oriko wants her to blow up.

So, I'm just going to stick with telling them "Yeah, if you pull shit we're going to put you in a corner."

And past that... a lot of the other stuff should really branch naturally from stuff like "Tell them about Kirika's wish and what it did to her head." Firn isn't clueless and neither is Brina. That's supposed to be something we should account for in votes, right?

Well, yeah, but at least we should include something like:
-[X] Most magical girls survive their lives of continuous violence and betrayal only by maintaining paranoia and defensive reflexes well into the domain of PTSD. Kirika has all of that plus she'd be protecting her Ojou. Please, get as angry as you like, but don't threaten her or start anything physical.
which isn't exactly enough--as Sayaka's teachers, we really need to be very firm with her about accidentally hurting someone with her superstrength before a fragile human ends up being broken like Table-sempai--but at least it's a start.

Also @Onmur:
-[X] By the way, we've got Oriko to admit her actions were wrong and unjustified, so don't exactly expect her to defend herself from accusations..spoilerShow {color:#FF0000!important;} .spoilerHide {border: 1px dotted grey!important;} .spoilerHide:hover{color: #FF0000!important;}
Something went a little awry with the end of your vote... :V

And this is partially why I'm avoiding that right now.

Because ATM, as I have noted at length, Sayaka needs us to treat her as an equal, not a student.

It's difficult, but the correct way is to treat her both as a student and as an equal.

Even if it seems contradictory.

When it comes to magical girl matters, Sayaka's our kouhai. She's not our equal in maturity, experience or understanding. We're supposed to be teaching her.

She's our equal nonetheless.
We should treat her as an equal, but however solid her morals are she's still a teenage girl, prone to rash and precipitous actions: Wishing for power only a couple of days after giving her word that she wouldn't, for example, or flailing about with her superstrength and breaking a table. If she had hit Hitomi with that same level of strength she could have crushed her skull; that's a dangerous enough event that we really need to tell her about it right now, regardless of other considerations like whether it's going to make her feel bad or lower her confidence.

I have trouble in seeing how.

*stares*

We're maybe a year older than her, roughly two weeks her senior, and we're nowhere near infallible so far as she can tell.

What part of that makes us particularly unequal?

If you ignore the metaknowledge, the war-fighting, the 4.2k pages and two OC years of thinking/planning, the various bullshit abilities we haven't made a big deal of, and the fact that Sayaka is a goddamn lemming historically, all of which are things Sayaka has no knowledge of...

To Sayaka, what makes us different from Homura? Or Kyouko? Only the bonds we've forged with her. And where Mami quickly became Super Sempai Mami, we really haven't done that sort of thing.

She looks up to us somewhat, normally. But looking up to someone is a bond that goes two ways. They can break or strain it by doing something you don't like. And it's not a horribly strong bond origially -- she clearly places more weight on feeling like she's indebted to us.

Stop Gilgameshing and look at it from Sayaka's point of view.

Because she doesn't see what you're seeing.

Yeeah, I'm not Gilgameshing.

Tbh I don't know what that term exactly means. It just seemed reasonable since you were doing a bangup job of ignoring Sayaka's POV in favor of "we know all, we are right, we must teach the lowlies."

The above is slightly exaggerated to match the word "Gilgameshing." I do not believe that to be your actual thought process. *flicks tail*

That's rather the point. Sayaka has no idea how little she actually knows. And you know what? Most teenagers don't. They think they're way more knowledgeable and worldly than they actually are, and way less mortal and fallible. And then they wonder how they wound up arrested or hospitalized or with their car wrapped around a tree, or all of the above.

As her senior in the world of magical girls, it's our responsibility to teach her the things that she doesn't know, not to encourage that ignorance by allowing her to continue to believe things that are not true.

Part of Kaizuki's point is that we can't do that right now because we haven't yet conveyed that we have so much more maturity at our disposal. Little bit of a chicken and egg problem. Mami is sempai right now not because she is superior, but because she behaves in ways that convey sempai-ness and prompt Sayaka to respond with kouhai-ness. If we tried to tell Sayaka off we'd be rebuffed because she's not in kouhai mode where we're concerned.

If we want to get to Sayaka quickly, it might be reasonable to go through Mami instead of trying to do it ourselves. We might want to start building up some credibility with her too. Not sure how to do that. We're definitely the token mad scientist/evil teammate to Mami's team mom.

[] Ask Mami to use her super sempai powers to tell Sayaka off about breaking things and warn her to keep her strength under control. She's apparently a danger to everyone around her - we're all lucky she only broke the table instead of accidentallying Hitomi.

Sayaka's not nearly on that level of stupid, but we can't take a 'teaching' position right now because we're both dealing with both our own fuck up and Sayaka's house burning down problem.

Teaching her about her strenght and being careful with it is something we should have done during either of our training sessions.

We'll get to it as soon as we've recovered some worth in Sayaka's eyes. Right now we're fine, we don't need to bring up the point at this moment because we're available to watch over Sayaka and pay attention and stop her if she does anything dangerous.

Yes, that's true. Are you so that you can't piece together what I'm trying to convey here between this bit and the stuff I've been saying again, and again, and again the past four days?

I'm done talking about this; I'm done reposting the same story over and over and nobody puts in the effort to actually listen and retain.

Sayaka views us as an equal and as a teacher. We view her and often treat her as a student or a lesser. Right now she needs us to treat her as an equal.

None of those things are bad or wrong, nyan.

Please, lay off. If you go re-read the stuff I've posted since last storypost and visibly makean effort to listen to the body of it I'll continue talking to you about this stuff. But at this point I am beginning to decide that I've been baited into pointlessly warring with hardliners.

The votes are basically in. I'm done rehashing. Next I will start castigating you, politely and viciously, and neither of us will enjoy that. And Firn won't enjoy it. And I will be meowing at you the entire time.

That's not a threat, it's simply recognition of my own behavior patterns. I have given you more than enough material with which to put together my entire perspective, and you continue to attack it piecemeal. If you can show me that in the entire body I've posted there is a flaw that you have a complaint against, then by all means.

Otherwise? Please go write an omake or something instead.

Let me try to explain on Kaizuki's behalf. Sayaka does not see us as having earned the right to lecture her and as such will not respond to our lectures until she does see us as having that right and we're not going to get it by telling her off for responding to a mistake we made.

And some do not see her impulses of prepping to attack and destruction of property to be rather endearing.

Ah...
Yeah, that.
That makes sense..
Hmm, could I get a vote tally?
I need to review my options see if there's something that fits better...

[x] Calmly and levelly: Sayaka, if I had told you immediately... What would you have done? I was worried that you would've contracted under duress. Nobody should have to do that, Sayaka. No one more. We want your help, Sayaka. You're brash, hardheaded, and you tunnel vision too easily, but you're also courageous, willful, focused, strong, and possessed of the sort of iron moral compass that meguca should have but generally do not. But to ask for your help at that time, knowing that you might do something as permanent as making a contract under those conditions... Can you see how that might be immoral?
-[x] And no, I'm not defending not telling you afterwards. Just at that specific time.
[x] if Mami wants to get rid of the glass, suggest that maybe between the two of us, we could fix table-chan.
[x] At some point in all this, telepathically thank Mami for bearing with this whole thing.
[x] Tell Hitomi that we fully anticipated the request to meet with O&K, and that we can go whenever.
[x] Telepathy Oriko and Kirika. We've told Sayaka and Hitomi, and they want to come over to talk to you. Ask for permission to tell them things about...their lives and reasons for contracting. If they're not willing, we won't.
[x] On the way or before leaving as convenient, tell Sayaka and Hitomi about Oriko and Kirika. Their wishes. Their reasons for wishing- their backgrounds.
-[x] Including how Kirika's wish messed with her head.
[x] Explain that Oriko is currently suffering problems with her wish. There should be a professional in town soon, but without that treatment is... Difficult. We've done what we can for the associated physical symptoms (pain relief ring), but she doesn't currently have access to her magic.
[x] Request that both of them remain on best behavior for the meeting. No repeats of Mami's apartment, no matter what. You accepted their surrender, and as such you feel that you have a duty to provide care for them and to not do them violence so long as they do not breach the terms.
-[x] If people ask, anger is fine, violence is not. Neither would be making attempts to provoke violence.

[X] Nod to Hitomi.
[X] Sayaka, how could you have helped? Because I was afraid you would've made a Contract. Under duress, for revenge, even. That would've been beyond bad, for you. Wishes can mess with your mind.
-[X] But there's no more danger of that, is there? Sayaka, for what it's worth, I'm glad you're in our side. As far as I know you, you're nice, brave, and have a moral compass most Magical Girls simply lack. How will you help?
[X] If they want to meet Oriko and Kirika, we can go anytime except tomorrow during our trip. We could go right now if they want.
[X] If we go now...
-[X] Before going anywhere, tell Mami we want to try repairing the table later, if she hasn't already got it covered, so she shouldn't throw away the glass.
--[X] Telepathically thank her for bearing with all of this.
-[X] Actually, there's something you need to hear before you meet them. What I said about Wishes messing with your mind? Kirika greatly admired Oriko and specifically wished to help her. Her Wish satisfied her desires by changing her into someone that could do that. That included strengthening her admiration for Oriko into love and devotion so strong as to be outright fanatical.
-[X] Update O&K and Homura on Sayaka&Hitomi meeting. Ask them to please collaborate, and to try not to needle the girls unnecessarily.
-[X] Ask Sayaka and Hitomi if they want to know some facts about Oriko before meeting her. If yes, tell them all the public things: Oriko's mom died some time ago, her dad raised her as well as he could... and was recently found to be using his political position to falsify funds. Instead of facing punishment or trying to protect his daughter, he suicided, and a lot of angry people took out their anger on Oriko. Which leads to the Oriko of today.
-[X] By the way, we've got Oriko to admit her actions were wrong and unjustified, so don't exactly expect her to defend herself from accusations.

[x] Sayaka, you were in the hospital. Anyway, there's nothing a normal person could have done in a fight like that. And I didn't want you to be forced into a contract by tragedy or anger. You didn't even know the true nature of Soul Gems back then, and Kyubey would gladly have taken advantage of that.
-[x] Sayaka, I'm glad to have you as a teammate and a friend. You're hardheaded and reckless, but you're also brave and kind and determined. But I didn't want you or anyone to get tricked into this life without understanding the consequences. And I wouldn't want anyone to do so in exchange for a wish made in hate.
--[x] Wishes are extraordinarily powerful things - they can warp reality itself... including the mind of the girl who makes them. Not always, but wishes for revenge or retribution... they rarely end well for anyone.
---[x] I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this sooner, but I wanted to protect you. And then once you made a contract anyway... well, it's not an easy thing to talk about. I wanted to wait until the weekend to bring it up.
[x] Ask Mami to keep the broken glass. Between the two of us, we might be able to fix Table-chan.
[x] Tell Hitomi and Sayaka that we anticipated that they might request to meet with O&K, and we intended to take them, but if we do, we have to know that they aren't going to lose their temper and do something rash. I know they've wronged you a great deal, but they've surrendered and abusing prisoners is not acceptable behavior.
-[x] If Sayaka tries to claim that she would never do such a thing, reply that she should tell that to Table-chan. Human bodies are just as fragile, and much harder to fix.
[x] Telepathy Oriko and Kirika. Include Homura, so she knows what's happening.
[x] On the way or before leaving as convenient, tell Sayaka and Hitomi about Oriko and Kirika. Their wishes. Their reasons for wishing- their backgrounds.
-[x] In particular, note that Oriko made her wish while suicidal, so her precognition mostly shows her ways to get herself killed, so there's a chance that she might try to rile you up to get you to attack her. Also note the mental effects Kirika's wish has had on her. She's normally a model prisoner and even friendly and helpful, but if she thinks you're threatening Oriko, she'll become violent, and once that happens containing her again will not be easy. Let's not go through that again with a normal human in the crossfire, please?

[x] Pull back to regroup (metaphorically)
[x] Tell H&S that meeting up with O&K is in the cards and something you were hoping to work into everyone's schedule. However, before that, let's all just take a breather for a moment.
[x] Excuse yourself, and go to the balcony to relax.
[x] Telepathy O&K.
-- [x] Tell them that the talk was mostly a success. Hitomi and Sayaka are volatile, so please, let's try to keep things calm if and when they show up.
[x] Contemplate briefly the notion of all things magically working out in your favor with basically no effort.
[x] Put your game face on and go back inside
[x] To Hitomi: I thought that you might. I'll try to schedule some visiting hours for this evening.
[x] To Sayaka: No, you couldn't have helped. You were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and even if you hadn't been, what would you have done? Homura brought an honest-to-god belt-fed machine gun to this fight. You had a softball bat. I had my leg nearly taken off by a homemade bomb, and it took an hour to heal with magic. If that had happened to you, you would have bled to death. The only way you could have helped would have been to become a magical girl, and I was not willing to let you sell your soul for the sake of revenge. We know that Kyubey must have been in your hospital room that night, tampering with your parents' memories. He would gladly have taken advantage of your situation to trick you into a contract. Would you really want to have doomed yourself to this life of battle and grief for a wish made in hate?
