...So!

Any complaints to be raised against the proposed "Final Vote 2: I Actually Mean It This Time"?

Because I'm actually getting pretty tired of this and just want it to end, so I don't want to hear why people want a fourth poll after I run it. :/

In our world, but not necessarily in the world of PMMM. Also, new names get created all the time, especially since people can change their legal name to pretty much anything they want.

Magic :V
Minors cannot change their name, so we wouldn't be able to have a unique surname. Also, we're using a surname partially to avoid standing out, which a unique surname doesn't allow.

EDIT:^ I still like "Valentine", but if no one else does, then it not appearing on the poll won't make a difference. That's the only thing I can think of.

That part of me that wants to stop shaving and live in a cave in Wyoming among the bears votes we don't bother with a legal last name.

Because Redshirt Army is getting tired, while I'm happy with "Vee", to try and avoid complaints, I've tried to take the workload off his hands and run a ranked poll myself. I've tried to include everything, but I'm not allowing names eliminated in previous polls.

Yes, several: Not surname should be a valid option, the time frames are to short, deciding something important on a whim goes against many of my principles, it limits the future posibilities while leaving in stone a choice many will not be happy with for no gain since there isn't a current need to do it righ now and it feels forced and autoritative to me to do the voting right now.

I think that's about it.

*stares blankly at thread*

What even.

On another note the first post on page 4000 (apparently me) was on Oct 14.

It is now Nov 1, 2.5 weeks later, and 81 pages.

Somebody calculate that to a couple decimal places i dont need more math in my life

This is something we've been discussing for a long time, no surname has legal problems, we want a legal surname soon and the sooner we do it, the more convenient it is.

A surname and legal identity will be required if Sabrina is to do anything even remotely useful with money in the longterm, yea.

I'm semi-okay with putting it off, but since we're meeting with the Ishinomaki group tomorrow IC, I'd very much prefer if we had a name picked by then, since then we can commission ID from Inoue Yuuki (aka Miss Pixels).

I'm kinda tempted to declare Vee the winner anyway. :/

It's in first place with 29 approval votes on the first survey, and has more than twice the number of preference votes to the next option on the second survey.

I'd like to actually settle this. Thoughts on rules for a survey that would actually lead to a conclusion? Clearly only including the top three was too harsh a cutoff.
I don't think it's going to get settled until we actually vote in-game. That said, if you want to try, I'd recommend pruning off 5 per iteration. Still not really sufficient, but it's an improvement.

Preferential voting would probably be the best option, but I don't know if Strawpoll allows that.

von Essvee appears to not even be a surname.
Doesn't matter: The format is : "von [Location]." Any new town founded, for example, could potentially create new "von" surnames. SV qualifies just as well.

It should be on the poll, I feel.

Since we are somewhat obviously not decided on the matter, why not postpone the vote until we actually need a surname (the actual vote), instead of settign the matter in stone so early? That's basically the sum of my argument.

I've got a preferential poll up already, so you can use that. Also, "von Essvee" can be voted for in the poll under "von (something)". If it gets significant numbers, I'll split that option in a future round. Also, the town argument doesn't hold water as we don't know of a town named "Essvee", (but again, it's still an option on my poll anyway).

Because, as demonstrated, it's a multi-step process and t gives us time to become comfortable with the surname before arriving, prevents us from being distracted by other things happening in quest and we don't have much more time we can delay it by.
