... Eh ... probably incredibly impractical.
Just about as impractical as Homura's Witch book. We won't get the full info from it, but we can have Sabrina look up specific Witches, or Witches that'd appear at a certain time or location.

So yeah, it would be impractical, but if it could be done, it can be done.

For now, we've got an unnoficial cast list.

I tend to disagree only because cleansing by directly enchanting a soul gem could very, very easily backfire and is playing with what's probably our and might be someone else's soul. This could literally be suicidal.

If you meant enchanting an object to suck grief out...eh.

I'm generally not talking about enchanting soul gems, but enchanting mundane objects with the ability to function like grief seeds or roughly similar. Also if we ever get our enchantment to a point we can use it on clear seeds, that objection holds a good deal less water.

Though that's just one option. There are other alternatives that have been suggested.

That could either make our lives much easier, or it would backfire horribly on us, possibly by creating angry objects that would try to kill us.

Yeah, but let's work on control so that we do not release a large amount of grief at once.

Should probably test if having small streams of grief released on an area over a long period of time has any adverse effects on the environment.

Releasing a little grief once doesn't seem to do much...
I don't trust any grief that isn't under our immediate control. Releasing it into the atmosphere would almost certainly be better than letting people die, but it collecting it and bringing it back to us for processing would be best.

[jk] Release all of our grief in a live witches barrier.
This would probably be one of the worst things we could do, ever.

...no one said anything, at all, about directly enchanting a soul gem. Or even a grief seed.

So why make that the cornerstone for your argument?

Especially when what was being specifically discussed was the use of enchantment to create the tools that would provide some kind of alternative to cleansing beyond grief seeds.

EDIT: Damn it Mura no

Hmm, just a thought.
We can "cleanse" grief seeds, turning them into "clear" grief seedsin which act similar to soul gems in that they'll "donate" excess grief to grief seeds, yeah?
Barriers seem to be somewhat linked to the mindset of the witch.
If we were to try to "cleanse" a witch while it was still active - that is, to cleanse the grief seed while allowing the witch to still have power over it's own grief - would the barrier change, to be more "sane", as to reflect that the witch has gone from the state of "soul crushing despair" to just "meh"?

I mean, Barriers seem kind of like reality marbles to me; reflective of the users mindscape and such, an extension of their will, and so on. We could possibly use that to try and see how a witch with a "clear" seed "thinks" as compared to a "normal" one in despair.

Basically - can we try to "cleanse" a grief seed of an active witch, just to see if it'll restore their sanity or affect them in any way?
Well, I think we are doing this already when we are ripping grief out of the barrier.

I see that more as "defeat the witch, rendering it inert".
I'm suggesting we find the grief seed of the witch, and cleanse it while leaving the witch active; that is, hopefully allowing the (slightly) more sane witch to change it's barrier. That way we can observe how a "clear" witch might be different from a "dark" one (hopefully, more sane and less eldritch abomination. Perhaps if we're lucky, it'll even remember being a magical girl...?).

That sounds interesting, and worth trying out later on, but the situation at hand is more important, and what you are trying to do may be impossible.

They have spiral energy, we have grief instead, does not compute.(how did we derail this to TTGL?)

Ahh!! *gets crushed by Mecha Gurren Zilla Lagann*

Grief seed doesn't manifest until witch is dead.

Huh. 7-mile boots, only making that tree more interesting.

If witch assumes control of it, we just probably get a gaggle of familiars. Not exactly deserving of that title, what are you imagining?

I'm more curious about the result with nothing present to invoke their will on it.
5. It's possible someone did manage to successfully cleanse their gem by enchantment and Kyubey simply doesn't bother to mention that detail.
I don't see any particular reason to not ask him, given such a question doesn't tell him anything new about Sabrina, especially in comparison to single telepathed word.
Other than that... If Feathers is Homucifer or has similar scope of power, we'd probably have to cover the entire universe to leave to reality outside our Barrier... and maybe cover other dimensions, too...
I'm willing to settle for Earth.

Granted, Akuma might not be most happy with Madoka in our barrier, if she can act less freely (since our world) there.
Yes, but then it a trap laid by our enemy vs a trap inherent to the nature of our powers.

Either way, better not trip it.
Eh, Oriko's warning hints that Feathers (our enemy) is going to act against our group no matter what we likely do, just like an enemy would.

Given her current capabilities alone, even ignoring who we think she is, makes communicating look....not too unattractive. Sure, "don't tickle a sleeping dragon", but kinda late for that.

Oh yeah, for the time being: Conviction++

Our Benefactor pt. 36
You want to give her a hug.

You want to hug her, and tell her it'll all work out.

You're half a heartbeat away from stepping forward to catch Homura in a hug before you catch yourself. Not the time.

Instead, you straighten, facing Homura squarely. Homura's gaze remains dipped to the floor, her head slumped forward and her hand wrapping tightly around the ribbon binding you and Mami to the timestop.

"And that's all right," you say, taking a step forward. Seeming to read your motions, Mami follows you without prompting. "It's alright, Homura. This whole situation is... definitely strange. Strange, and there could be something unknown out there messing with us."

Homura senses your motion, her gaze snapping up to you. Her eyes harden, a small, worried frown making its way across her face.

"But that's fine," you say, with gentle emphasis. You meet Homura's eyes fully, confidently. "It's fine to be a little scared and a little uncertain. All this... isn't really something anyone can deal with alone. It's just too much." You shrug, smile fading a little.

It's sort of funny.

You can be certain about being uncertain. It makes a weird sort of sense to you, really.

Homura grimaces faintly, but you continue smiling at her, trying to project an air of confidence. "It's a good thing we aren't alone, isn't it? We have each other, and we'll beat whatever this is, together, just like we'll beat Walpurgisnacht and anything else that comes our way." You give Mami a quick half hug, including her, too.

If you're honest, though, you are somewhat uncertain. A little worried that things are beyond you. Despite your words, there's still that unpleasant little worm of uncertainty gnawing at your gut. And some part of you still wonders about your Barrier. So much might come of that, and there's so much you don't know. So much to find out, so many ways forward.

Some of that doubt probably shows on your face.

Homura sighs, still watching you. "This is different," she says.

"No," you say. You close the last step, reaching out to put your hand on Homura's shoulder and smile at her. "It isn't. We'll beat whatever this is together, just like we have everything else so far. And no matter what happens, we'll protect the people we care about, right?"

She flinches slightly at the touch of your hand, but she doesn't pull away entirely. "It isn't so easy," she says, eyes dipping away from yours once again. The spidery shadows of the timestop cast her face in shade, making it hard to see her expression. "It isn't."

"It won't be," you say. "But we'll face it together."

Mami nods. "Sabrina's right. We'll do this together, Homura."

Violet eyes regard you for a long moment, and she sighs quietly. "Alright," she says. Her mouth twists into a bitter smile for a moment before she looks up at you again. "Alright."

You... want to pull Homura into a hug, but much as it galls you, you don't really think she wants one. Not now. You smile at her instead. "That's the spirit," you say. "We'll do it together. Cheesy as that sounds... we will."

"Together," Mami echoes.

"Anyway..." you say, stepping back, still smiling at Homura. "Anything else?"

Mami shakes her head. "Nothing... Homura?"

The time traveller hesitates for a moment before shaking her head.

"Then I guess we're done here?" you say, inflecting it as a question.

Homura's already reaching for the shield, and she cranks it sharply across. Vibrant colour, fiery oranges and reds of evening, floods across the world. The busy sounds of Mitakihara in the evening wash across your ears, chasing away the oppressive silence of the timestop. You can't help but notice that Homura seems to tense up a little as the sound pours over you, looking around the alleyway carefully.

You send a telepathic message to Mami. "Do you think we could invite Homura to dinner today?"

"Of course," Mami agrees.

You look at Homura, smiling again. "Say, Homura," you ask, catching her attention. "Would you like to come over for dinner tonight?"

She blinks at you, taking a moment to consider this. "Yes," she says finally. "That would be... nice."

The next update should see you through dinner, unless you want to talk to Homura or Mami specifically.

As always, dinner conversational topics are nice.
