Turn 96 (Febuary-March 1982)
-[X]Announce The Title: You're going to go to the media with Star Wars, and tell the world that production is going to begin. DC: ??? Rolled:
D100 => 91
It was almost an afterthought, all things considered. You were tired from the day's celebrations and preparations and you honestly didn't even remember you had the meeting to announce it.
Hell, you didn't even think George wanted to announce it. And Steve was in Arizona preparing the exterior shots for Jabbas palace and the sand barge scenes. It was just too much to remember.
And hell, you didn't even think that George chose a title he agreed with especially since he decided to hide production with the Blue Harvest thing to get the costs down so the budget wouldn't explode.
Yet it was kinda surprising that you both were in your car, driving down to Lucasfilms where Mike was waiting for you to try and get the mass wave of media personalities and newspaper people trying to tear the whole damn building apart to get the words out.
Yet you just walked up to the podium, with George sleeping on your shoulder, and just said. "It's Called Return of the Jedi."
"And before you ask, any other title you have heard is either the production title that we are using to keep the paperwork down or a blatant lie from our competitors who tried to steal drafts of the scripts. And no questions."
Thankfully, you and George and Carrie would have a long flight towards Arizona to sleep and rest.
Reward: It was pandemonium, and the entire world now knew about the new Star Wars Movie.
Especially since you basically said that your competitors were trying to find out what the title was.
Increase the Audience for Star Wars by +100.
Though Mike did keep a few Revenge of the Jedi posters… to circulate, to just keep things fresh, and keep the public guessing.
----------------------------------------------------------
-[X]The Second Unit: Steve requested that he have a second and third unit on his team, which will be quite the thing. But you think he deserves it. DC: 30 Rolled:
D100 => 30
You got Steve his second unit, though it was cutting it close. Every second unit crew in Hollywood was being hired out by everyone else to prevent you and George from getting more people to work on the crew. They seemed to know about the crazy shit and the stress Steve seemed to be under.
Fuck you, Sid.
Reward: You have a second unit, though with no assistant director, George has to take over Second Unit duties.
Steve is relieved that George is sharing his insane burden. Again.
----------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]Costume Testing: Carrie is all but dragging you to the costume department. She has that smile that makes you think she knows exactly what she was doing. DC: 30 Rolled:
D100 + 30 => 31
"The Measurements are wrong," Carrie said to the costume designer who she was testing it for. "Seriously, I'm a mother of three, not some woman who is severely underweight, like come on."
You were there as moral support, and while Carrie had lost all the post-pregnancy baby fat she had through swimming, surfing, and running with you, you were also surprised with just how much the designer seemed to misconstrue the measurements.
It was much too small for her. And while Carrie was as beautiful as always, it also looked uncomfortable for her to wear.
Pleasant to look at, yes, but very uncomfortable. "We can get it fixed by the time you're in Arizona."
You nodded. "Thanks."
As you got out, you could see that Carrie was upset. "Carrie."
She fumed. "I wanted you to see me like this first."
Well, at least you had a roll sheet for her on the day she would be in it. And it would only be you, Steve, George, and whoever was supposed to be extras on that day.
Reward: The Costume will be fixed and it will be perfect.
------------------------------------------
-[X]Red Dawn: John Milnius' WW3 Epic, an invasion of America. He wants it to be the film of the year… He said if it was the last film he ever made, he would want it to be this one. A Film About War, The Cost of War… And that sometimes, War had to be fought, in any way. DC: 40 Rolled:
D100 + 20 => 46
Damn, you missed it, but thankfully George had a projector for everyone to see it.
And Damn, John really decided that this war film was therapy to him.
(Continued in: Red Dawn)
-------------------------------------------
-[X]The New Blood: So... Who wants to work for Lucasfilms? DC:???
--[X]Director Rolled:
D100 => 30
--[X]Producer Rolled:
D100 => 18
You would have to look harder once you come back, you just didn't have time.
Failure: Can be done again, after Star Wars Production.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]A Return to Sender: Debbie asked you to follow her in for a meeting with Sid again. Something about needing to politely refuse a contract or two. DC: 30 Rolled:
D100 => 86
You sat down in the office of Sid, who was trying very had to not just order security to throw you out to the curb. But that was because he also saw Debbie… and knew what was coming. "You know Sid, before all the bull and the things that happened, I would have trusted you with many things, my career, I trusted you with my daughter's film, giving you something that was more than what I thought was worth."
"I did everything you and your people asked of me, before you threw it all away, sweeping me under the damn rug like I was last week's trash, hiding from it. You could have had so much more, and I almost want to say more."
"But I want to say thank you Sid. Thank you for showing me that not putting my faith in you, and yours was the correct thing to do." She finished as she held up the contract. "You had me for six films. And so much more potential you threw away. I want you to remember that for the rest of your damn career, about how you put your god damn greed, and selfishness and bullheadedness of your people, to those I care about."
As the final coup de grace, she then gave a wink and a smile. "You know, anything else, you could have had star wars if you hadn't thrown it all away."
As you both walked out, you only asked. "So what was the other contract?"
"Alan, for his sins, was remarkable with his negotiation skills. And you'll see."
Reward: Debbie gives Sid the finger. And closes a chapter on her life.
----------------------------------------------
-[X]The Lucas Family Meeting: Before production begins, there is going to be a celebration for the finale of the trilogy. And that meant everyone -was coming to the mansion for a fun little party. DC: 25 Rolled:
D100 => 29
-[X]Best Friends: So Mary has lots of friends, and she wants them to come over. You need to prepare for that. Carrie, get the cookies. Rolled:
D100 => 100
-[X]The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids! Rolled:
D100 => 14
As you looked at Amanda, Wally and the kids playing with each other, you realized that they were going to be at that for a while. "So, Debbie said she's watching the kids, so who wants a dinner date?"
At that, both the Lucas' members nodded in agreement, and you took a taxi to a nice restaurant in the city, one of the high-end restaurants with plenty of people that were far away from the crowd, and away from the media.
And it was something else. "How long has it been since we all were like this, five years?" You asked as dinner was being served.
"Got to be after we finished with Empire," Marcia said as she took a bite. "We don't really do this all too much?"
"Always busy," Carrie said. "And don't deny it, the men in our lives always like staying busy with the kids or their work."
At that, you and George looked at each other, then at your wives, as if they betrayed you. "Now come on, we're not." George stammered.
You and Carrie began to laugh as the two stopped. "What's so funny?"
"It's funny that you think that things like work stop us from finding the bright side of it, and despite everything."
"What?" George stammered. "Is there something I'm missing?"
You and Carrie then laughed more. "Oh, you will see it."
As you ate, you then stopped and realized something. "Carrie, what did Mary ask for last night that we ignored?"
"Some blueprint paper-" Carrie then paled. "Oh no."
George then asked. "Oh no, whats the oh no, are our children in danger?"
"Nope… I just realized that I'm about to have a big headache because Mary is about to draw something again that going to make me go crazy."
You were right of course, because when you got home, Mary and Wally… did a thing.
Mary for her part, went back to the design of her strange "Power Armor" She had heard about and wanted to make it better. Now she had a similar design she tried to make for Macross, but she went further. She said, "The only thing missing is the gears and the power supply."
And somehow, Wally got one of your cameras, repaired it, and made it better.
George said that Wally loved doing that to his Cameras, and he seemed to love digital cameras because they were easier to work with.
Reward: You had a wonderful time. But Mary did a Mary thing.
And Wally is apparently a wizard when it comes to cameras. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
Goodness, gracious… now there are two of them.
-------------------------------------------
-[X]One Last Ride: Steve looks at the script and signs. "I don't want to fuck this up." You only looked at him and smiled… He had this. DC: 45 Rolled:
D100 => 45
It wasn't really anything you could do, or say to him, but you did say one thing to him that made all the difference. "Steve, me and George did all the work getting you to this position."
"And honestly, you have the easy part. You have the ending, a script, and everyone wanting to help you. So, let us help you get this home."
And Steve accepted it, with a Return of the Jedi hat on his head.
Reward: Steve will not suffer a breakdown on set…
As his stress is not… over the one you have.
--------------------------------------------------
-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Dean Pitchford. Ron Howard recently brought to your attention a film that's being used as hot potato by Hollywood called Footloose. A story about a big city kid moving to a small town that has banned dancing and his fight against the establishment. Sounds like a fun teen film and Lucasfilms could always do with more musicals. Rolled:
D100 => 5
--[X] Robert Benton. Robert currently has an interesting movie he's directing and written about a family in Great Depression era Texas called Places in the Heart. Lucasfilms is always in need of more movies and this could be a nice add in drama. Rolled:
D100 => 10
You were going to meet Dean. And Robert too.
But you had to begin Star Wars, and as it turns out, they both really wanted to meet you too, but they also were not willing to stop production. Turns out they were huge fans.
Failure. Can be done again when you come back home from Star Wars.

This was going to be fun.
