Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Sony create camera too right ?, so can't we do a little partner-ship where we use their factorys and we(Geroge) design his super-high tech camera that will blow everyone out of the water

Well since we bought marvel we can now make the MCU also I want us to play as captain America and Arnold as the Hulk
MCU can wait, at the moment the DCU is going to be debuting, and I don't want us to make the same mistake as the OTL DCEU made in rushing to fight Marvel without any plans, specially when they had the momentum going against them.

Better that we establish a presence through TV shows at first to take advantage of the medium, and when the DCU ends ( as Magoose has confirmed that it will last for only one Phase) we can then swoop in during the 90s and bring in our better planned MCU.

Yes, because of that 96
Dammit Sid!!!

As a wise man once said... "He is the pain in my assholes"
Sony create camera too right ?, so can't we do a little partner-ship where we use their factorys and we(Geroge) design his super-high tech camera that will blow everyone out of the water
I would personally go for Canon... They produce the best quality lenses in the world

Or we can still try to buy local and try our luck in Polaroid

Sony create camera too right ?, so can't we do a little partner-ship where we use their factorys and we(Geroge) design his super-high tech camera that will blow everyone out of the water
No partnerships, because of the dice being more bipolar then Carrie they could betray us in a heartbeat and leave us with nothing. I propose we either buy Polaroid because they're american and super cheap because they're in a decline now or start our own camera company.

Movie Pitch: Creepshow
Movie Pitch:

Creepshow

The Most Fun You'll Ever Have Being Scared!

GENRE: Horror/Comedy
Format: Motion Picture

Set Up: A riff on old 40's and 50's horror comics like the Vault of Terror, Creepy, or Tales from the Crypt; Creepshow will be a way to translate the old spook books O'Brien read as a kid without having to pay for the rights or be creatively defined to any one story. Indeed this anthology horror film will be an adaption of the comic medium itself unlike the recent Batman or Superman films despite being live action.

The film will feature a wrap around segment taking place on Halloween where a stern, disapproving father throws away his small child's copy of Creepshow, only for the "Creep", a walking talking ghoul fresh from the grave, to appear from the boy's closet with a new copy for him to read, the method that frames each story, and to personally delver the voodoo doll he ordered that set up the argument in the first place for some "just deserts"

PLOT:

"Father's Day"

Sylvia Grantham meets her nephew Richard and niece Cass, along with Cass's new husband Hank Blaine at the Grantham estate for the family's annual dinner on the third Sunday in June. They proceed to tell the curious Hank about the family matriarch Great Aunt Bedelia and the open family scandal of her killing her abusive and miserly, but obscenely wealthy old money father Nathan Grantham, after he arranged the hit on her lover on Father's Day exactly two decades ago. With the help of Slyvia and other members of the family, they covered up the murder by saying Nathan 'fell down the stairs looking for his Father's Day cake' and Bedelia in return opened the purse strings on the extensive family fortune.

Nathan however returns from the grave that very night, slaughtering various members of his clan and the estate's servants, after Bedelia gets drunk and rants over his grave when she mentions his last words were insulting her and demanding his cake. It is Father's Day after all and damn it he'll have his cake!

"The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill"

Jordy Verrill, a comedic and dim-witted backwoods hillbilly, discovers a meteor has landed on his cornfield. After getting "meteor-shit" from the broken asteroid on him and everywhere, horror unfolds as grass grows everywhere, especially when it comes into contact with water. The grass spreads and forces Jordy to kill himself after being a 'weed monster', the audience is told to expect rain showers all week, as we see Jordy farm is only a few dozen miles from a major American city.

"When You Wish Upon a Briefcase"

James Clinton returning to college dorms after visiting his family discovers he accidentally took home a briefcase containing a businessman from Turkey bent and broken, to fit inside who is still alive and talking. He refuses to go to a hospital, saying this is the result of a curse and medicine can't help him, and asks James to pull him out. James stops both when it's clear it isn't working and he's in intense pain, and when the businessman cries or yelps he spits out gold doubloons.

James is tempted to keep him, after his girlfriend Salome and roommate Robin find out, and hurt him so they can make a fortune. James eventually gets second thoughts when it's clear their killing the businessman, only for Robin and Salome try to kill James to stop him from calling the cops. But who exactly put the man in the briefcase? He is magical and maybe he's the one giving handing out the curses and spells, not the one subject to them? Genies after all are by their nature tricksters.

"The Crate"

A custodian at Miskatonic University, drops a quarter he was flipping which rolls behind a grate under a basement staircase. While attempting to retrieve the coin, he comes across a wooden storage crate marked "Ship to Miskatonic University via Julia Carpenter - Artic Expedition - June 19, 1834" hidden underneath the staircase. He calls Professor Dexter Stanley to notify him of the discovery, drawing Dexter away from a faculty social gathering. Also at the gathering are Dexter's best friend, the mild-mannered Professor Henry Northrup, and Henry's perpetually drunk, obnoxious, and abusive wife Wilma "Billie", who has a penchant for embarrassing herself, belittling her husband, and annoying or insulting everybody she meets. Henry regularly fantasizes about killing his horrific wife, but is far too timid to actually go through with it.

Dexter and the custodian open the crate, only to find a ape like monster called Fluffy, who eats the custodian and then a grad student who tries to help, before falling back asleep in the crate. Later that night, a hysterical Dexter goes to Henry's house (absent Billy, who is having an implied affair) and confesses the odd tragedy. The meek Henry suddenly hatches a plan to take care of both the monster and his hated wife.

"They're Creeping Up on You!"

An evil billionaire germaophobe finds out he's the bug that needs to be crushed!

And what about buying Canon...

As I said before they are the best lens producers in the world...

Vietnam is rather out of place in a monument to Soviet atrocities for multiple reasons, to my understanding (assuming I didn't misread that bit or forget some divergence from RL history at that point in the quest).

I do like the idea of making the classic Polaroid camera into the first digital camera on the market. Especially if we can get it for cheaper than Kodak.

It would feel good to bring a better digital camera to market while Kodak sits on their patent. A nice bit of karma for not taking our offer.

And what about buying Canon...

As I said before they are the best lens producers in the world...
Well they're also an good option the thing is they're Japanees and I'm afraid that when we enter the '80 there will be a large counter reaction against japanees brands dominating the american economy and with a push for protectionism which will us in a bad position. Also I like the idea of saving companies which went bankrupt OTL.

well whenever we make the MCU. we need to see if Robert Downey Jr. will want to play the roll of Iron man or not. first to get him off of drugs first.

Ok, but it synergizes better with our digital camera business to get a company that produces great lenses (something that we have not yet developed) not rather than a company that specializes in instant photos, which will get obsolete the moment we present the digital camera...

I thought we had great lenses for our camera's but I could be mistaken. I want Polaroid due to it's brand awarness as it's still one of the most known camera companies in the world and now they should be cheap sinds they're in a decline. Also their decline is due to bad leaderschip with little vision and a half hearted entry into the digital market and with George that could be radicaly different but evenstill the instant camera still has a market which went strong untill the 90's so we would still gain income from that. But Canon would also be a good choice.

[]A Simple Moment of Happiness (Unknown Effect for MAry)

Let's make some happy times for Mary.

-[X] Empire's Hype: In the final days of Empire's media cycle, George and Mike all but demanded that you and Carrie do your part because Mark was being run ragged again. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 97-10=87

You smiled and looked at the reporters, and finally let it out when the curtains closed and you were out of sight and out of mind.

"I hate this." You said, muttering to Carrie who held your hand. "You are the only thing that can make something like this bearable to do."

Carrie laughed. "Well let's see, we have two more shows to record and another live performance that is going to be great.

Oh god.

Reward: The Profit for Empire will increase by 100 million dollars.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] Showtime: You are starting to see why Carrie is so successful in the realm of Sports. She is just… good at making decisions when everyone is arguing. And that tends to make all the difference in the world. DC: 20 Rolled:D100 => 96

Well, Carrie won… well the Lakers won, but Carrie won…

Incredible.

Reward: Carrie has entered the Annals of Sports history as one of the first female owners of an NBA team to win a championship. It has increased her popularity around the world immensely.

Common Carrie O'Brian W. Carrie Dice love to simp for their Empress and Carrie continues to be the most awesome woman on the planet. Correction there for the NBA reward, Carrie is not one of the first female NBA owners, she's THE FIRST and she won on her rookie season as the Lakers owner big time. Great W for women in sports and it looks like Carrie has some major soft power in the American sports, will probably make the USFL an instant success by being its face.

With the roll of a Nat 96, I assume that the Lakers won the Finals 4-0 instead of going 4-3 and winning in Game 7?

-[X]Investing in the Future: You want to Spend some of that money you made into the company and make the whole thing better DC: ??? (Linetail what you want to invest in, and how much money you want to invest in it)
--[X] Kodak [ $250 Million ]: Lucasfilm aims to disrupt the film industry by developing a compact high-quality camera in response to Fujifilm's entry into the US market with a cheaper product. With George's vision to capture any shot imaginable [made abundantly clear before, during and following the making of the Battle for Hoth], this smaller camera will drive innovation and push creative boundaries. Once established, Lucasfilm plans to tap into the consumer market by not only finally offering a personal digital camera, leveraging their brand reputation and potential for significant profit to get a return on their investment. In addition to photography, a number of other products, such as their photocopiers, ink jets, and chemical analyzers, would not only provide an additional source of income, but also reduced prices for Lucasfilm Unlimited offices for these same products. Rolled:D100 => 3

Universal: 96

Do you think it was something George said?

Honestly, Mike was rather surprised when George told them that their cameras were crap and he could make better cameras for cheaper. That he wanted to change the entire camera market closer to a digital camera-based market something that could save people tens of thousands of dollars per year.

However, when trying to buy them out, you realize that there was another that was trying to buy them out.

Universal. Turns out Sid had a bone to pick, and after last year's box office with Napoleon in tow… well he was also thinking of other things to branch out. Including owning cameras that many people would use.

And he swooped in and offered 300 million… and before you had a chance to renegotiate a price, knowing that money was no object…

Kodak accepted Sid's Offer first. They said, "If George Lucas can make a better Camera than we can, he can do it himself."

Critical failure: Universal Pictures has bought Kodak.

Alright everyone, let's brainstorm names for our future camera division. Lucasphotos? O'Brian Optics? Guess we now know where our next big spending spree is and got another revenue maker.

--[X] Marvel Comics [ $450 Million ]: We propose the acquisition of Marvel Comics by Lucasfilm, driven by the vision of synergistic growth and creative expansion. By bringing together the extraordinary worlds of Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm, we will create unparalleled opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and storytelling excellence. This strategic move will allow us to leverage the iconic characters, vast comic book universe, and dedicated fan base of Marvel Comics, complementing our existing franchises and extending our reach across multiple mediums. Together, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics will redefine the landscape of entertainment, captivating audiences globally with immersive narratives and unforgettable experiences that transcend traditional boundaries. Through this acquisition, we aim to unleash the full potential of both companies, shaping the future of popular culture and solidifying our position as industry leaders. Rolled:D100 => 87+15=102

You didn't know that there was a power struggle between Stan Lee, his camp and his owners when you put interest in more business-oriented approach, and played all of the entertainment industry for profit.

However, when you expressed interest, Jack Kirby was the one who told you to only speak to Stan, along with Chris Claremont… editor and writer of X Men. and not any of the corporate stooges. Because Stan had a plan.

And it was masterful. Stan, knowing he had lots of respect in Marval, among all it's artists, writers, and editors, gave an ultimatum. They wanted Lucasfilms to buy them all out.

And if they did not, they pooled together over 300 million dollars among themselves to buy the company themselves. Turning the company into an Artist/writer/creator-led comic-book company, something that had never really been done before in a very long time.

And then they would sell it to Lucasfilms for your asking price.

And it worked… kinda. Stan and his people bought everything on loans and goodwill, along with the simple fact if you succeed, they would be set for work for a very long time. Many of the writers artists and editors took off huge loans to get the capital to buy Marvel.

And despite the money you buy off of them, they were all struggling to pay the rest of the loans off. Because it seems all that work was just making the banks impatient. Because everyone, including Stan… owed the bank millions.

And all were looking to Bruce, George, and Mike to save the company. Because you were the only one who could.

Reward: You now own Marvel Comics and all of its properties… And you need to save that ship before everyone who works for it winds up penniless.

(I will give the reward for what Marvel the company gives when I finish other stuff)

WE WIN THESE! So stoked that we finally have Marvel and this time we can create an MCU with all of Marvel's beloved heroes sharing the same universe from the beginning. So stoked for the amazing on-screen crossovers and historical injustices never happening like the Fantastic Four finally getting a good movie.

In regards to the Marvel debt, can't Bruce and company simply pay it off? We purcahsed them for 150% of the Stan Lee purcahse and even if they still owe money we should have more than enough money to pay off any remaining debts, especially with Star Wars coming out next turn.

Alright, here's where we currently stan in regards to the existing shows that Marvel has made, and thus we inherited the rights to for the Lucas Channel:

Live-Action
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 1977-1979
  • The Incredible Hulk 1977-(1982)
  • Japanese Spider-Man 1978
Unfortunately Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man just ended but it could have been renewed for a third season considering the huge success of Superman and Lucille as head of CBS probably wants something reliable. The Incredible Hulk is a bit messy because it's produced by Universal Television, but the show is Universal Television's most profitable program so they might suck it up and work with us to make money. Fortunately for Japanese Spider-Man, it was made by Toei and we should have neutral or cordial relations with them. Would love to get it for the Lucas Channel, show America the craziness and lay the groundwork for Power Rangers.

Animation
  • The Marvel Super Heroes 1966
  • Fantastic Four 1967-1968
  • Spider-Man 1967-1970
  • The New Fantastic Four 1978
  • Fred and Barney Meet the Thing 1979
Interestingly the Fantastic Four was made by Hanna-Barbera so that's one point towards buying them.

Here's the Marvel animated shows that would have been made in the near future:
  • Spider-Man 1981
  • Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends 1981-1983
  • The Incredible Hulk 1982-1983
After that is a decade of nothing for animation until the mid 90s with the Fox shows and there was no live action Marvel shows until the 2000s. Personally I really loved Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and it was one of the shows I grew up with so I wouldn't mind having that around, but I can understand doing other stuff. Maybe for the 80's we basically make the Fox shows a decade early with higher quality animation and then do a 90s MCU?

-[X] Dad and Mom and the Jumping Whale: Alright everyone, why does the Whale have so much of my memorabilia in it? DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 67

Dad and mom were looking at you with a smile. "So how it going?"

"Did you buy things from George, or did Debbie give you all that?"

The huge number of Bruce O'Brian and Carrie memorabilia. It was strange to see your face all over the place. "Um… well, Debbie gave us a little, and there was plenty things… that we just bought."

"From who?" You asked.

"Couple of people that worked for Lucasfilms, people that we think were stealing things from your office. We bought them off just so we can give them back later."

"You know who they are?" You asked.

"Unfortunately no." Your father said. "But we will keep an eye out."

Thanks Dad. "So about the Lakers… where did that all come from?"

"Carrie happened." Your mom said.

Reward: The Jumping Whale has become incredibly popular thanks to memorabilia from your films… and Lakers merchandise everywhere.

Well looks like Joseph and Sarah never have to worry about retirement with The Jumping Whale being a reliable money printer. How successful are both locations? Also how well do Joseph and Sarah get along with Debbie and vice versa?

-[X] Grandparent Dilemma: Debbie has a few… things she needs to talk about. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 70

Debbie took you aside and sat you down. "You know what I am about to ask?"

"Not really no." You said. "I was hoping that Carrie would tell me, but there isn't anything she said that would tell me what it is?"

A moment passed before Debbie took a breath. "I want to make that movie Carrie wrote for me."

"Okay, just ask-" You started before she shook her head. "No Bruce, I want you to make it."

Oh. "Why me, why not anyone else?"

Debbie smiled. "You're a good man Bruce. Maybe thats because you know what it will mean for me and Carrie."

You nodded. Okay.

Reward: You now have to make Killer Queen in two years time. Debbie has to star in it.

Looks like Killer Queen shall come after Kung Fu Kid. If Alan doesn't need us to film Batman at the start of 1981, then I wouldn't mind filming Killer Queen with Debbie to give her a glorious return to cinema. Plus at least here Carrie can be free to be Mary Sue.

-[X] A Charitable Heart: You want to invest your newfound wealth. Maybe even save some lives while you are at it. (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to donate in)
--[X] Tomb of the Lost: The Memorial of Remembrance Honoring Victims of Soviet Atrocities [ $25 Million ]: A visionary project that aims to pay tribute to the victims of various Soviet atrocities while fostering a sense of historical awareness and remembrance. By honoring the memory of those affected by these tragic events, we not only reaffirm our commitment to anti-communist values but also extend our solidarity to other communities impacted by similar experiences. The memorial will serve as a powerful testament to the human toll of Soviet atrocities and promote a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving freedom, human rights, and dignity. The Memorial of Remembrance is a powerful testament to the victims of Soviet atrocities, while fostering historical consciousness and promoting universal values of freedom, human rights, and dignity. By embracing a sectional approach and actively involving affected communities in the memorial's design and development, we ensure that the diverse stories and experiences of victims are properly honored and remembered. This memorial will stand as a symbol of resilience, remembrance, and a commitment to preventing the recurrence of such atrocities in the future. | Sectional Approach: The Memorial of Remembrance will be thoughtfully divided into distinct sections, each dedicated to memorializing victims of specific Soviet atrocities. This approach ensures that the diverse range of victims and their stories are properly acknowledged and remembered. The sections may include: The Great Purge (1936 - 1938), Holodomor, Gulag System, Deportation of Ethnic Groups, Katyn Massacre, Invasion and Occupation of Baltic States, Suppression of Political Dissent, Vietnam, Romanian. | Outreach and Inclusivity: To ensure the authenticity and inclusivity of the Memorial of Remembrance, we will actively engage designers, artists, and historians from the communities affected by Soviet atrocities. By sourcing talent from within these communities, we will ensure that diverse perspectives and experiences are reflected in the design and narrative of the memorial. Additionally, we will prioritize placing one of the memorial's designers in one of the top five largest cities by population, enhancing its accessibility and visibility. | Educational and Historical Significance: The Memorial of Remembrance will not only serve as a place of solemn remembrance but also as an educational resource. It will provide comprehensive information about the various Soviet atrocities, their historical context, and their impact on individuals and communities. Through guided tours, interactive exhibits, and educational programs, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the consequences of totalitarian regimes and the importance of safeguarding democratic values. Rolled:D100 => 94

It was incredible to see just how it came out…

But when you saw it… it took your breath away. When it was completed.

Reward: It will be completed next year.

Unknown Effect. It will cause a great and drastic change to the entire world.

Looking forward to Communism falling apart totally by the 21st century. Maybe we may actually see an End of History.

Alright everyone, let's brainstorm names for our future camera division. Lucasphotos? O'Brian Optics? Guess we now know where our next big spending spree is and got another revenue maker.
I think we still have a couple of great options to buy like Canon and Polaroid...

But Canon would also be a good choice.
I mean, we probably have good lenses, but AFAIK George has been focusing on the "digital" part of the digital cams, so getting one of the best producers of lenses in the world seems like a good idea... George can focus on innovating with a totally new media while the camera company can focus on producing great lenses...

And it is not like we cannot buy both companies...

I'm all for making brand new movies (specially a Fantastic Four one) but I still think we should wait until after the DCU is over...and after the Infinity War event happens as well. That one is going to be our cornerstone.
Alright, here's where we currently stan in regards to the existing shows that Marvel has made, and thus we inherited the rights to for the Lucas Channel:

Live-Action
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 1977-1979
  • The Incredible Hulk 1977-(1982)
  • Japanese Spider-Man 1978

Would love to get it for the Lucas Channel, show America the craziness and lay the groundwork for Power Rangers.
I'm all for showing Japanese Spider-Man to the public...so long as it's in now way related to the Japanese Spider-Man Manga. That Spider-man was an asshole, and perhaps one of the most disturbing adaptations I've ever read.

At the same time, I want us to start fresh with Live Action TV Shows, beginning with the more grounded, street level heroes, and having their stories be connected somehow. I've already given pitches for Luke Cage and Daredevil, and I'm planning one more for Iron Fist, but one that actually makes sense rather than the crap we were given in OTL. After that, I'm thinking another hero, though I'm not sure which one.

From there we can start building a greater fanbase in my opinion.
Animation
  • The Marvel Super Heroes 1966
  • Fantastic Four 1967-1968
  • Spider-Man 1967-1970
  • The New Fantastic Four 1978
  • Fred and Barney Meet the Thing 1979
Interestingly the Fantastic Four was made by Hanna-Barbera so that's one point towards buying them.
These can remain as "classic animation". The one that came before we took over. Besides, the Marvel Superheroes have their own charm, if anything form their intor songs which are catchy as hell! Who hasn't had the intro to Captain America stuck in their mind when they first heard it?
Here's the Marvel animated shows that would have been made in the near future:
  • Spider-Man 1981
  • Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends 1981-1983
  • The Incredible Hulk 1982-1983

Personally I really loved Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and it was one of the shows I grew up with so I wouldn't mind having that around, but I can understand doing other stuff.
I'm all for it, but if we make the Spider-Man animated series of the 90s, then we better make it by following the comics instead of the whole changes they made to the entire canon. I'm not saying it has to be a complete recreation panel by panel, but perhaps don't invent an entire new mythos out of it as well.
Maybe for the 80's we basically make the Fox shows a decade early with higher quality animation and then do a 90s MCU?
I'm all for it, and I will support this idea with my dying breath!

Also, I want our MCU to begin with Guardians of the Galaxy.

And it is not like we cannot buy both companies...
Now this seems like a good compremise. Use Canon tech with Polaroid branding seems like a good idea and is fittingly in brand with our East meets West idea of company building, we should merge these companies together to make Canon-Polaroid or something.

Also seperate question what is our company Valuation?
