Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Just out of curiosity what was Conan culture role in the original timeline? Just wondering if Goose timeline will have Conan being bigger.

The Pope wants to talk to Bruce?

Generally I'm not a huge fan of the Papacy, but since Bruce is Catholic we should probably go.

Maybe take a vacation to Southern Europe at the same time. I think Italian is one of the few languages Bruce doesn't know.

Oh, and both political parties want our backing. Well we definitely aren't supporting Reagan, who is the devil. So either support Carter or stay out of politics entirely.

Movie Pitch: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I was actually surprised when I rewatched the films. I mean, when I first saw the movies I began with the second one, and was not aware of the existence of more for many years afterwards. When I first heard of the third one I was freaking shocked at how...well, immature may be the right word to use for it, but it just doesn't seem to encompass the entirety of the problems that the movie had. Seriously, I can't even think of it as part of the trilogy. To me, it's always that one spin off that was somewhat inspired by the second film, right along those two movie specials that had the turtles sing songs as they went outside without even thinking of hiding their true identities and whyohgodyourebeingseenbyeveryoneyouresuppoedtobeninjaturtlesdisguisingisimportantwhatthehell-!!!!

*Ahem*, anyways. It wasn't until many, many, many, many years later that I first saw the first movie. And you know what, I could suddenly understand why so many people had mentioned that the second was not as good. I mean, personally, I still like it, but in an objective level I can say that the first is much better in story, adaptation, and faithfulness to the source material (though if possible, I would still love to add Vanilla Ice to the sequel). It's just a shame how it all seemed to go downhill before it could reach the heights it deserved.

Still, the franchise survived and thrived, yet no other movie has managed, in my opinion, to reach the heights and development that the first movie promised for a trilogy. And I think that if we manage to convince the creators to give us the rights, then we can make something magical with the later entries.

Thus, I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

GENRE: Action/Comedy/Adventure

SUBGENRE: Science Fiction/Drama

FORMAT: Movie

Set Up: Based on the comic book characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows the Turtles (Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo) on a quest to save their master, Splinter, with their new allies, April O'Neil and Casey Jones, from the Shredder and his Foot Clan. The film will adapt the early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, with several elements taken from the animated series airing at the time.

Director: Sam Raimi
Composer: Danny Elfman

Leonardo: He is the leader of the Ninja Turtles, who were all trained by Master Splinter in the arts of ninjutsu. Leonardo is the most mature turtle, though still somewhat childish, and is not shown to boss his brothers around very often. However, he is shown to be very sensitive, especially when Splinter is captured. His weapon of choice are a couple of Katanas.

Played By: Brian Tochi
Alternate: Ralph Macchio

Donatello: He is the scientific intellectual of the Ninja Turtles, who were all trained by Splinter in the arts of ninjutsu. Donatello is the more sarcastic and quick witted of his brothers. He is shown to be very close with Mikey, and though his intellect is subtle it is still shown in some cases that he is the smartest turtle. His weapon of choice is the Bo Staff.

Played By: Anthony Michael Hall
Alternate: Emilio Estevez

Raphael: He is the mutant turtle who, along with his brothers, is trained by Master Splinter in the arts of ninjutsu in their home in the sewers of New York City. He is shown to be very rebellious, cynical and with anger issues, though he resolved them a bit later on. He is also shown to be very loyal and mature, willing to quickly fight to protect his family. His weapon of choice are a couple of Sai.

Played By: Matt Dillon
Alternate: Charlie Sheen

Michelangelo: He is the easy-going, free-spirited Turtle of the group. He is the most immature and the most fun loving of the four turtles. He is very close with Donatello and he is usually paired up with him whilst the other turtles are fighting. He also loves Pizza the most of the four as well. There's also a hint of a dark side in him, shown when Splinter is kidnapped. His weapon of choice are the nunchucks.

Played By: Michael J. Fox
Alternate: Robbie Rist

Master Splinter: He is a mutant rat who became the Turtles' father and ninja master. Splinter was the pet rat of Hamato Yoshi in Japan who learned the teachings of his owner from his cage. When Hamato Yoshi was killed by Oroku Saki, Splinter escaped his cage and clawed at the murderer's face, causing an enraged Saki to slice his right ear off. He eventually defeats him at the end, protecting his sons.

Played By: Kevin Clash
Alternate: Jackie Chan

Oroku Saki/ The Shredder: He is the leader of the Foot Clan, the murdered of Hamato Yoshi, and the enemy of the turtles. He is a brutal and Machiavellian leader of a ring of child thieves, whom he manipulates and recruits, teaching them ninjutsu to turn them into a group of skilled thieves and assassins. As their leader, Saki took on the persona of "the Shredder," and became a fearless "benevolent" cult leader.

Played By: James Saito
Alternate: David McCharen
April O'Neil: She is a television reporter for Channel 3 News who did a series of stories on mysterious thefts in New York City, whose culprits vanished without a trace. She was saved by the turtles and became their friend and ally against the Foot Clan, refusing to stop even when ordered to by her boss. She formed a romantic relationship with Casey, and familial one with the turtles.

Played By: Judith Hoag
Alternate: Elisabeth Shue

Casey Jones: He is a streetwise vigilante and former ice hockey player who becomes an ally of the turtles and has a crush on April. Their first meeting was rocky, with Casey mistaking the turtles as thieves and fighting against them at first. The misunderstanding is eventually explained and both sides join forces against The Shredder and his Foot Clan. He and April develop a romance through the movie.

Played By: Bruce Campbell
Alternate: Jim Carrey

Charles "Chuck" Pennington: He is Daniel's father, and April's boss. He had trouble dealing with his son, who had a problem with stealing, and was unaware that Daniel had joined the Foot Clan. He was blackmailed by Chief Sterns so that April would back off on the story about the mysterious crimes caused by the Foot, so that he would go easy on Danny. He cares about his son, though he has problems showing it.

Played By: Jay Patterson
Alternate: Paul Gleason

Daniel "Danny" Pennington: He is the son of Charles Pennington, April O'Neil's boss. He joined the Foot Clan and was involved in the crime spree. When meeting April he also meets the turtles and lets Shredder know about it, leading to Splinter's capture. After a talk with him he leaves the Foot clan, and helps in freeing him with the help of Casey Jones.

Played By: Brendan Fraser
Alternate: Corey Feldman

Chief Sterns: He's the blustery, ineffective Chief of the New York City Police Department. He is unable to deal with the crime wave occurring in the city, and can't see the connection between what happened in Japan years ago and the current situation, no believing in the existence of the Foot Clan.

Played By: Raymond Serra
Alternate: Dabney Coleman

Master Tatsu: He is second in command of the Foot Clan under The Shredder. He is shown to be un-waveringly brutal in both teaching and combat, as well as using rough and dishonorable methods when training Foot members. Tatsu is a bully as he always makes sure to show his students how he's stronger than them, yet also laid back as he's willing to forgive small mistakes, seeing them as beneath him.

Played By: Toshihiro Obata
Alternate: Mark Dacascos
Head Thug: Leader of the rank-and-file Foot clan members.

Played By: Sam Rockwell

A.N.: Frankly, I think this movie can be done from 1988, till the 1990 when it was made in canon with the actors I selected. If we go any earlier then I guess I can try to find different ones, though the franchise won't exist until 1984, so that's something. I want to try and make a good trilogy out of this, hopefully one that will involve more of the iconic enemies of the turtles, which might mean no more Shredder or "Super-Shredder" either. I know, it's a big loss to all, but I really think it's necessary if we want to truly move forward with the movie franchise. So, tell me what you think, and if there's any suggestions you would make.

So in terms of what to do, most of the new options I'm rather eager to take. Since people are really ambitious and want to do lots of networking stuff, I suggest we hold off on the Brandon stuff for a turn, or at least do only the acting. Since it's summer, Brandon will probably want to spend it with his friends and considering he's now a Senior, he's had plenty of progress and can learn next turn.

On personals, obviously we help Carrie make another Gosling. For vacation, I actually want to do it for some nice family fluff, have Mary have her first vacation and just some nice fun times. Since the Pope wants to see us, I would suggest doing the vacation in Italy so we can have some nice family fun and take Carrie to plenty of romantic places.

Also for networking, let's do Airplane since it's gonna enter into production next month.

Now as for the big one, politics. Personally I'm down for the fun of Bruce endorsing Reagan. It'd be a bit of a stretch for even Bruce's endorsement to see Carter win when his popularity is in the gutter. Plus with Reagan we have a hell of a lot more potential. Carter is an unpopular President who is at war the Democratic supermajority congress and isn't looked on fondly with his party base. Reagan is the head of a movement where for the next four decades he'll be the face of the Republicans and Conservatism and thus we have the potential to influence one of America's most powerful and popular presidents who likes us, and thus influence the 80s. Besides, if we vote for Carter that will definitely lead to lots of AU stuff which may give Magoose a headache.

All that being said, if people would rather for Bruce to be neutral for now and let things continue as OTL out of personal reason or what they view as organic, I won't mind at all. I'll wait to post a plan until I see which way the majority of the posters want to go with endorsements.

Also I was hoping that the Ginger Kitten option would happen here, but I guess with us soon to be on vacation better for next turn.

Alright then. The options for promoting Empire and helping Milius are a must. We should also try and find someone that can lead our TV division...any ideas? Because otherwise the only one I have is that guy that helped run the Disney Channel in the 80s, and perhaps that other guy who tried to work for us from United Artists. Can't remember their names at the moment so I'm just giving a description here.

Aside from those two we could do Katzenberg. His trait is messy, but with the LucasTV bonuses the malus might not come into play and he does work well with Eisner at this point. Plus he probably has some decent experience with PTVS, though I'm fine with the two above, especially Wagner since he's not super committed to Disney and is presumably an ally of Lucille at CBS.

I'm fine with all those options, though I would also like if we could add a Networking option to contact Cunningham either this turn or the next. I'm not that picky, but by this time he should have the screenplay ready, and I want to get in on the franchise before others do.

I'm fine with either Reagan or Neutral. Though if Reagan is going to win in the end, we might as well profit from it. Besides, if he once more starts making the same mistakes as OTL, then we'll just have to fight for the little guy, like we did before.

On the one hand, Alan Wagner seems like a good choice, he managed to handle the Disney Channel during a dark period after all, but Andy Albeck did seem to want to work with us...does he still want that? Well, it depends on if he's still with United Artists. Heck, with the overall amount of movies being done, perhaps he's renewed his passion there.

I will vote for any plan that has Networking with Steve Jobs or Wozniak. We have finished filming Empjre and we have pushed Apple aside far too long. We missed the opportunity to invest before the mass release of the Apple II. Let us not miss the chance to become partners with Apple before their IPO. And, perhaps, have Bruce become a pre-IPO shareholder.

Also, they would mesh well working with Lucasfilm technologies.

Also, is anyone interested in trying to buy the Dodgers as an investment and for Carrie?

Edit:
As to possible heads of TV, how about Brandon Tartikoff? A bit young, but OTL he becomes head of programming for NBC and basically saved it. He had his hand in many hits of the 80's and early 90's. He also helped with making DS9.

Seems to be in our MO: young but tremendously talented.

OK this is basically the same plan as @MysteryCPU [] Plan Network and help Friends, woth only a major difference, we are buying Hasbro...

Seeing how OP Merchandising has become eliminating the Middleman is going to make our profit skyrocket, and I am picking Hasbro because it is the only toy company that @Magoose has explicitly confirmed that we can buy (and we even got a price racket), I would have picked Kenner if we had more info.
try 400 mill.

Turns out with Merchandising sales exploding, a toy company is seen as a good investment.

For the moment the Howard Estate was very eager to see more Lucasfilms adaptations and Mike was rushing to make some deals with Kenner to make Conan toys as he was completely blindsided by the merch as he viewed Conan as too adult to be marketable, a mistake he was trying dearly to correct. You don't know if you would work on Conan soon, but you would be happy to give it a complete trilogy within the next 10-15 years.
Well. This is a bit of an interesting reversal of OTL.
What with He-man being born from a company making a bunch of Conan merchandise only to find that the movie was anything but marketable to kids, leaving what would become the foundation of the He-man series.

As far as networking. If we are going apple, we may want to take a shot at poaching from Atari considering we are at the point where they are starting to lose all their good staff to poachers and defections. And having a company make games for Apple computers might be a good idea.

He's also indirectly responsible for getting Ed Fisher to try to leech off of Carrie again, so I resist supporting him on principle. :V
We honestly just have too much that can connect us to Reagan and the Republicans as opposed to Carter. Reagan is a former actor, he's far more personally likeable at this point(Great Communicator and all that), he's strongly anti drugs and anti communist which are going to appeal strongly to Bruce(the drugs because of Carrie and the anti-communism because all the times the keep trying to fuck with him along with just being an anti-communist), some of the formative Hollywood people Bruce has been been around are ardent and vocal Republicans(Clint Eastwood and Lucille Ball), he's deeply religious which tends to lend itself to a degree of religious conservatism which ties him closer to Reagan, and Carter has directly fucked with us on the Nuclear stuff and with Ed Fisher and Bruce is highly vindictive. Carter is also just generally considered a bad and weak president and with the shit happening right now in Quest, Bruce is unlikely to vote for/support Carter.

So keep our promise and help do promotion for Empire with Carrie, hopefully since we're doing it with her the +40 should cancel out the -10, that or it autopasseswith Carrie. Hire Brandon and make LucasTV great.

Deal with whatever's going on with Francis and help save John so we can get that footage not only for a good Red Dawn, but to expose the Soviets.

Speak with the Pope, Bruce is a Catholic so this is important for him and we could do great things. Have an Italian vacation as part of speaking with the Pope as Bruce definitely deserves it and I want some nice family fluff. It also helps that OTL, Carrie and her family went on a European vacation in 1971 and had a pretty great time so this would be a nice treat for them. Look into Mary's development and give Carrie some babymaking time.

Say yes to Reagan, get a lot of soft power to influence the 80s for the better.

For networking, I view networking with the Airplane guys as more important because they are literally about to start production next turn while we got a whole year for Flash Gordon. Network with Cunningham and try to see about getting the Friday the 13th franchise. Finally, since so many people are begging this by popular demand, network with Steve Jobs. Y'all know I'm not a fan, but since it's gonna keep on coming let's just get this over with and hopefully we get an in and not fire Gavin.

Also Magoose, July should be the start date of our new scripts.
