Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

@Kaiser Chris could you perhaps replace one of your action with a networing one with Apple, like Steve Jobs and Gavin so that if we buy Apple we don't give the wrong signal? Changed my mind

Movie Pitch: Sherlock Holmes: The Conspiracy of Fear
You know, I really loved the Guy Ritchie adaptations to Sherlock Holmes. I mean, I liked the character well enough, and I can understand some of the purists' arguments against what was done to him in this version of him. Yet, at the same time, I can't help but feel that they kept the best (and core) parts of the character, and from there they managed to expand on a different version that nonetheless makes as much sense as Sir Arthur's version of him. This Sherlock is a man of action, a man that is more of a bohemian and dresses not so much as a member of the upper crust of society, or his iconic deerstalker outfit, but like an artist or a poet would.

It is fascination that many of Doyle's idiosyncrasies from the books, fit so much better with this interpretation; his messy and disorganized room, his lack of focus as his mind moves from one topic to the next, his callousness and somewhat anti-social behavior, etc. But at the core it is still all Sherlock, the man who has Watson as his dear and best friends, who loves solving mysteries and prove himself the smartest man, the master of disguise...all put together like an interesting puzzle. With action scenes of course, so many amazing actions scenes.

The movie must show Sherlock fighting and using his prediction abilities. That alone would make it worth it.

I know this would play against the popular image of the character, but don't tell me you wouldn't want to see it done anyways. Besides, with the actors I managed to find I figure we can have this done around 1989-90 at the earliest. So, enough time to discuss with the Arthur Conan's Estate and get their approval for the film internationally (though the stories are Public Domain in the U.S., so we can still do a domestic release if we want.

So then, I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Sherlock Holmes: The Conspiracy of Fear

GENRE: Mistery/Action/Thriller

SUBGENRE: Adventure/Neo-Noir

FORMAT: Movie

Set Up: Based in the character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This original story is set in 1890, and follows the eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. Watson as they attempt to foil a mystic's plot, led by Lord Henry Blackwood, to gain control of Britain by seemingly supernatural means. They are aided/opposed by Holmes' former adversary Irene Adler, and their mysterious new boss, a man that will soon strike fear in Britain and Holmes. A man who will be soon known as Moriarty.

Director: Bruce O'Brian
Composer: Hans Zimmer

Sherlock Holmes: He is a consulting detective, who at one time became a wanted fugitive in his hunt for Lord Blackwood. Sherlock is eccentric, brave, and extremely intelligent. He has his own degree of personal cunning and a slightly suave demeanor. He is focused, crafty and rather altruistic, heroic and strong-minded and good hearted. He is also enigmatic and lacks tact entirely which is why he is disliked by so many people; he often doesn't notice when his deductions of people do offend them. He does care about Watson though, considering him a friend.

Played By: Mel Gibson
Alternate: Pierce Brosnan

Dr. John Watson: He is a surgeon and a veteran of the Second Afghan War. He is the best friend, partner, and loyal flatmate of Sherlock Holmes, often taking part in his investigations. Watson is an excellent shot with his firearm and is also a competent swordsman. He is brave and intelligent, ably assisting Holmes in his investigations. However, Watson has a tendency to gamble and often loses all his money on this addiction. He can be very hot tempered in the face of pressure or annoyance, and has a bit of a gambling addiction.

Played By: Robin Williams
Alternate: MIchael Hogan

Lord Henry Blackwood: He is an aristocratic serial killer dabbling in the occult to compel others to do his bidding. Having returned after his execution, Blackwood concocts a plan to gain control of Britain. He is usually accompanied by a menacing crow. Blackwood is arrogant, egotistical, and callous. He is insidiously reclusive and has a tendency to brag that he is cleverer than Sherlock Holmes. He is very intelligent and has a talent for science and illusion, specializing in physics and biology.

Played By: Alan Rickman
Alternate: Peter Cushing

Irene Adler: She is an American femme fatale from New Jersey who outwitted Holmes twice, a skilled professional thief, as well as a divorcée, who needs Holmes' help to find a missing man named Luke Reordan. Both her and Holmes have a deep and mutual infatuation, even as they try to outwit and outplay each other in their meetings. While she is willing to aid Holmes (in her own way) she still remains intimidated and somewhat loyal to her new employer; Professor Moriarty.

Played By: Julia Roberts
Alternate: Geena Davis
Mary Morsten: She is a governess whom Watson wishes to marry, causing a conflict with Holmes. She was initially skeptic of Sherlock's deductive abilities, but a quick demonstration convinced her (and insulted her). She distrusts Holmes and thinks he would gladly throw away anyone so long as he can solve a case.

Played By: Gwyneth Paltrow
Alternate: Justine Bateman

Inspector Lestrade: He is an investigator from Scotland Yard who hires Holmes to look into the murders. He is a rather competent officer (though not by Sherlock's standards) and relatively fed up with Holmes' tendency to insult him. Despite it all, Lestrade still associates with Sherlock even when the latter is wanted for murder.

Played By: Bob Hoskins
Alternate: John Thaw

Constable Clark: He is a policeman who worked with Sherlock Holmes. He assists Holmes several times during his investigation of Lord Henry Blackwood and the Temple of the Four Orders. He respects Holmes, and does not believe him capable of murdering anyone, to the point that he helps him evade capture when he's on the run.

Played By: Brendan Fraser
Alternate: Scott Glenn

Lord Coward: He is a corrupt British home secretary, a member of the Temple of the Four Orders and an ally (in secret) of Lord Henry Blackwood. After revealing his true allegiance following the murder of Sir Thomas Rotheram, Coward was shown to be one of Blackwood's most loyal supporters and an accomplice in several of his crimes.

Played By: Tony Jay
Alternate: Donald Sutherland
Mrs. Hudson: She is a Victorian woman who owns 221B Baker Street and acts as the landlady of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

Played By: Charlotte Rampling

Sir Thomas Rotheram: He's a corrupt Lord Chief Justice of England and secret head of the Temple of the Four Orders. He is also secretly the father of Lord Henry Blackwood.

Played By: Cameron Thor

John Standish: He is a corrupt United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom and a member of the Temple of the Four Orders.

Played By: Jeff Goldblum

Dredger: He is a 7-foot (2.14 meter), French-speaking henchman working for Blackwood.

Played By: Richard Kiel
Professor James Moriarty: He is the employer of Irene Adler. A mysterious voice who seems to have taken an interest in Sherlock Holmes, though we don't see his face.

Played By: Christopher Lee
Alternate: Sean Connery

A.N.: I would like to at least make a duology here; made up from the two movies Guy Ritchie made, but if enough `people like this version of Sherlock I would not be opposed of perhaps making some new adventures of the character. I mean, aside from the stories written by Sir Arthur, I believe that there have also been some fan stories written, or those written by the author himself once enough of the fanbase clamored for him to bring the character back to life.

@Kaiser Chris could you perhaps replace one of your action with a networing one with Apple, like Steve Jobs and Gavin so that if we buy Apple we don't give the wrong signal?
Perhaps we should not buy Apple, but get enough shares to get a seat on the Board. I think around 20 to 30 percent of shares should be enough.

Awesome plan @Kaiser Chris I'm voting for it, and thank you for agreeing to buy the rights for The Shining.

Salem's Lot...It's been a while since I read it. I'll have to see if it works better in a movie or TV Show.

[X] Plan Imperial March

1) We're dealing with Lightsabers not real Katana's so we don't need to worry about being cut up
2)We can train with swords later and not when we're about to film Star Wars in Japan
3)The first Star Wars was already great when we brought experts who knew what they we're doing
4) Do you really think we can master swordsmanship in a couple of months while still working on Star Wars?
1) Still applies for future and concurrently projects, like Conan.
2) Considering we have Mifune with us on production, it'd be very much a waste not to at least try learning.
3) And? We're still directing the flow of action, and it wouldn't hurt to learn more to keep the rest of the cast and crew safe.
4) Maybe not master, but to an Intermediate/Amateur level? Yes, especially given that we have access to Olympic+ level masters on hand to help guide us.
Unless we roll horribly and fail then we would sabotage our film. I would rather heal our media probleme's a different way like talking to Clint Eastwood a veteran of this industry.
Ah, power gamer mindset. Not even going to make the attempt at RP, even when it'll likely hurt us later on by not making the attempt.
Okay? You know we can do that without wasting time on auditions? Like set-up a networking action or something. And we're in Hokaido, a long way from Tokio and Kyoto we're all these studio's are.

We're filming Star Wars , the flagschip of our studio, and we don't have all day in Hokaido. So I would rather focus on Star Wars now and not waste our time on 'side-quest's'.
Who said anything about wasting time? Considering the fact we're beloved in Japan and the fact that Japan's bullet train systems have been a thing for almost two decades by this point, audition and travel time are reduced to negligible levels.

By not doing something like this, we lose a chance to help ease the highly probable culture clash between our workers, so a sidequest like this is very much worth our time.

[As an aside, I'm wondering if it'd be worth it in the future to ask the Japanese if they wouldn't mind helping LA overhaul its public transportation system to help ease the unholy congestion that's already creeping in by this point in time, that hopefully the rest of the country ends up adopting.]

-[X] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC: 15 (Write-in what you want to learn about below)
--[X] Swordfighting (Focus: Fencing, Kendo, Iaijutsu)
Okay, can we do this next turn, please.

1) Still does not mean we can't take it next turn, we can push it to next turn if you want it so bad
2)Is Mifune the only Swords master in the world? We can still find one later.
3)It means we can trust on our experts to make it flashy and practical. Do you think every director in Hollywood who has directed a scene with swords is a master expert?
4)We would be amateur level at best sinds we're also juggeling all our other tasks, like directing our biggest film to date.
Ah, power gamer mindset. Not even going to make the attempt at RP, even when it'll likely hurt us later on by not making the attempt.
No not really, still scared from the Toho disaster

The bullet train could only enter Hokkaido in 1988 when the tunnel was done so no dice.

We already done the option to solve this.

I thought this was an actor quest and not a politician quest.

Sounds good. but then again, we're not buying just yet. I think we can wait to talk with them until after we finish production of Empire, and then we can buy the shares.
Agreed. We have until December 1980 before they open up their stocks, so we have time.
With business and communication I'm of the belief that the earlier we comunicate our intentions the better, so that we don't appear to be vulture's who strike just before it's too late. I really don't want to spooke Jobs and Gavin and telling them we intend to buy at least 35% at the last minute .
I think we're kind of past that point now lol
Not really, name one political thing we dit that is political and not just charity or we did by accident due to our movie. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps the Nuclear bill thingy but even then we only asked our representative to do it but to solve congestion in LA as an actor by bringing in guys from Japan is too far.

Again, I agree fully, I'm just also stating that it doesn't need to happen right now. We have roughly 2 years in-game time from now to get that done so it's ultimately not a huge deal if we put it off for a turn or two.

Can't say that I really agree, since I would classify helping to revamp the public transit in LA under the same umbrella as the nuclear stuff and the other charity actions we've done, but that ultimately comes down to the pedantry of what you see as "too political" versus what I do, and that's not really a talk I want to have right now.

Alright let's delay it.

Okay, I just don't want this quest evolve into a politican quest.

@Kaiser Chris I like your plan. But, would it be possible to change the 5-year plan from "Learn a New Language" to "Learn a New Skill" or "Expand His Skillset"? I was just thinking that Bruce has hit his head on: the Law screwing him over, his lack of negotiation ability, and the fact that computers are becoming a huge part of the business he is involved in but he isn't skilled in it.

Also, would it be possible to change one of the actions to learning a skill of swordfighting? We are working with Toishiro Mifune, and we are also setting up to teach Brandon martial arts. Its a great opportunity to learn the skill from a master of Japanese swordfighting (and perhaps making a connection to have some masters come teach at the Mandalorian Gym if they want to) such that we can have more varied stunt work and Brandon would learn another skill.

Also, I notice that quite a few of our actions are involved in getting book rights from authors (and up and coming authors). Does anyone else want to start a Book Publishing branch for Lucasfilm? So we can help great authors while also getting movie rights?

As to the discussion about Apple: we should not delay. The faster we get into contact, the better it is. We want to be friends and colleagues investing in a company to support our belief in our friends and colleagues. Not just a rich person investing in a company. Look how we worked with George- we did two projects and then formed Lucasfilm. We should try and work with Steve Jobs and Wozniak before we try and invest. It'd be preferable if we could invest BEFORE it goes IPO. Not only will we get better prices, but we will also have more cultural influence and a better working relations. So, as much before December 1980. Heck, if we help Apple become more profitable than in OTL, they might not even go public.

Edit:
@Orion Ultor Your plan is also good. However, would it be possible to get the Lucasfilm Legal department started in your plan? We've been bitten with Toho and a lot of our battles seem to be in the Legal field. Having the department set up as soon as possible would be a great thing.

Well, I think this are specific goals, so just putting something vague like "Learn a new Skill" would not count.

I'm against this as we should not try to overwhelm magoose by moving so much out of the movies/entertainment angle of the quest.

Work with them, sure. But if we're going to interact/work with them, i think we can wait until we finish Empire.

I'm not saying to wait until next year, but just a few months until we finish Empire.

Time to thoroughly DISCOMBOBULATE the mystery genre. :p

You know I have something funny.

We might have prevented the manufactured movie star of the 80s and 90s because we're doing so much.

And that might be cool

I'm against this as we should not try to overwhelm magoose by moving so much out of the movies/entertainment angle of the quest.

I would argue that publishing (books) is a part of the movies/entertainment angle of the quest- certainly as much as comics are. Book rights are linked with television and movies (look at the reason Gump and Co. was intentionally horrible for an example of that) and are constantly mined for television and movies. Many of our own plans involved "getting movie rights for X". It just seems that, having become this large, it would be logical and efficient to cut out the middleman and get into publishing via Lucasfilm. Certainly we could be more supportive of authors that way and have a better relationship.

Edit:
@Magoose Would "Expand Bruce's Skillset" be too vague for the 5-year plan?
