Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

I do kinda like the idea of a Batman movie that's told from the perspective of the bad guys. Never actually showing Bruce Wayne, or the Batman as the lead character, but instead a horror movie of the Falcone family or the like systematically getting taken down from this horror in the shadows, mostly from the perspective of a friend group of mooks going to different gang related events and just having the Night take them, and their coworkers.

or hell, just the one singular event. Some kind of large weapons shipment or whatever. First 30 minutes or so just the set-up of the hand-off, getting everyone in position, bribing the cops, all that jazz. Then it starts and suddenly the lights go out, and full horror movie vibes start kicking in as everyone gets picked off, no one knows whose doing it, the vehicles all somehow got sabotaged and can't be driven. Both sides are blaming each-other. Everyone who tries to just run away no one sees again, no calls make it out, no one comes in or out. And slowly 1 by 1 everyone gets picked off until just one is left, and only that last guy getting picked off do you actually see the Batman.

If this Batman film does come out in the 70s, I think to suit the tone of what Batman comics were like at this period of time, it should be kind of a horror movie.

Yes Batman has been Gothic, and it's been Noir, and it's been a thriller, but in the 70s it was really leaning on horror elements. We can lean into that, yes with great action but also showing a genre Bruce hasn't done yet which is horror. Batman can be scary, and I think it would be fun to lean into that.

Or if people don't like it, this is also when Ra's Al Ghul and his daughter Talia appears in comics, so we can just have cool fight scenes with assassins I guess.
There's two ways I would like to see the Batman movie going; The first is that it takes a more nuanced approach, kinda like Nolan did in the first movie, showing that there is more to crime than just good and bad guys. That the conflict is not solved easily, and may take all his life if he tries, yet he still chooses to do so anyways.

The second, I would prefer something a bit similar to the latest Batman movie, just without alll the nihilism and defeatism that it has. I did like the idea of Batman as a detective, and the movie should focus on the fact that Batman is the World's Greatest Detective. Just, perhaps one that doesn't need to be drip fed every single clue.

Using Ra's Al Ghul like he was in the Nolan film would be awesome though.

As long as Batman doesn't interfere with Bruce being with Carrie and their child, I'll be fully behind it. Plus, that doesn't lock him out of being part of anything Marvel as well, unless the contract specifies it as such.

In which case, I wouldn't support it.

By the way, do you guys think our CGI, as rudimentary as it is, may be able to work with making the OTL Dune forcefields? And by that I mean the ones that actually look good, not the blocky ones from David Fincher's version. I mean, when you look at them, they basically appear once when activated, then are relegated to the background unless there's a hit. It's subtle and elegant, perfect for the movie, and since it mostly just shows a small blue or red glow temporarily it should be within our limits, right?

Might even get Marvel to sign in with Lucasfilms if they see that we're starting to flirt with the competition.

Edit: I meant David Lynch, not David Fincher.

Wait, @Magoose one of the options says we need to find someone to edit our Conan film. But didn't we pay for 3 editing teams during the budget allocation under Post-Production Budget?

@Magoose I have a question of how much would cost and what benefits would provide a couple of extra departments for LucasFilms (unless they are already folded into one of our already existing departments)...
  • A department specialized in Prop and Costume making including artisans for to work in swords, guns, armor, and different cloaks
  • Another department specialized in makeup, wigs, facial prosthetics, and animatronics...
I am mostly asking because seeing how far and fast we are advancing technology, we could do the LOTR trilogy in the 80s, and one of the reasons why everything looked so awesome was because they spent two years in pre-production getting all the practical stuff done

They left when the movie got delayed. :V
Mother---! We better have gotten our money back, that's for sure!

Alright, so we need to find an editor, that's one of our options. After that, the Media Blitz is important so that's another, I would like to go for a Comic Con, but I don't know what you guys think´or if you have any other ideas that you want us to try.

Finding a semblance of greatness is something a bit superfluous in my opinion, just something that can wait for another chance.

I think the Christmas Party is something that cannot be skipped. We're basically turning it into Company tradition at this point, and with our new employees it's important that they see us there.

Mike wanting a challenge seems reasonable, and Tomino showing the fruits of the animation department's labor is something that I also want to see (and I assume so do you who love Gundam) so those options I guess must be in as well.

Now, finding more producers...I'm in the fence about this option. On the one hand I understand that we need to make more movies, on the other hand I don't like the idea as that could dilute our excellence and quality that we take pride on. What do you guys think?

After that, I want us to try for an animated Film, something grand that basically tells the entire world "I am here!" as a sort of declaration to Disney that they're no longer the only masters of animation.

For personal actions I'll mention them later, but for now I want to hear your opinions.

[X] Plan Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas Little Gosling
-[X]Finding an Editor: You are going to have to find someone to edit your Conan Film. DC: 40
-[X]Finding a Semblance of Greatness: So, since George has all but invented a new camera and is manufacturing it, you want to figure out what everyone at the office thinks of you. DC: 0
-[X]The Media Blitz of Conan The Barbarian: You are looking at the media list that Mike put up. "Alright, who's first?" He said. (Linetail what you want to do first) DC: ???
--[X] Do some interviews with local California based news outlets to spread awareness and build up hype.
-[X]The Christmas Party of 1977: Time for the Christmas Party. DC: 0
-[X]Oh Sweet, Mike What is Going On?: Mike brought you into his office to tell you something about… his lack of challenge. He needs a challenge. DC: 0
-[X]The Dreamworks… Gundam: Tomino called an Emergency Meeting to show everyone the fruits of their hard work. Of the Show called, Gundam. DC 20
-[X]Finding Producers: Mike wants to bring more talent into the Company to work on more films of a lower budget variety than the blockbuster films that you all are producing. Mostly young talent, so he's asking you to scour Hollywood for the ideas. DC: ???
-[X]Begin an Animated Production (Hiawatha): Don Bluth wants to do this one, something about it soothes his need for animation greatness. (Begin Production of Hiawatha. Please linetail the budget for this film, and who should be directing the picture)
--[X] $25 Million. Don Bluth.
-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X] THX 1138, The Hidden Fortress, The War in Space.
-[X]Finding TV Work in the City: You haven't worked in TV for a while, but considering you're huge… huge celebrity, it shouldn't be to hard to try something. DC: 20
-[X]Batman: A young producer named Kathleen Kennedy came to your door and basically laid out something that made you think she was going behind a lot of people's backs for this. "Listen, Mister O'Brian, I'm being blunt here. Colombia doesn't know I'm here to tell you this, but I am asking for your assurances that you will take it under advisement. We're about to start the production of a Batman movie, and I think you're perfect to play a young Batman. DC: ???
-[X]Preparing a Little More: You look at the room and say to Carrie. "I want to add a little bit more special to it." (Linetail what you want to add to it.) DC: 0
--[X] Paint the walls to depict Winnie the Pooh and friends playing in the hundred acre woods. Give a nice cozy feeling so our kid can wake up and smile every day.

Okay so unfortunately we can't be too ambitious or creative with personal stuff because of the shitload of Lucasfilm's obligations, so this turn is mostly some work goals with a small little gift for the baby at the end. @Magoose What about the new scripts for January and the assignment of movies to our three Directors?

So first off we very much need to find an editor for Conan and get the ball rolling so we can release within the next year. Do semblance of greatness although I don't see the need for what to do. Since we don't have the movie edited and thus don't have any trailers or footage, never mind a release date, it's best to start off small and simple for Conan's PR and once we get editing and have a clear time frame, we can be more ambitious. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to them.

Do the Christmas party as something nice to relax after a year of success and possibly before the birth or to celebrate the birth of the Gosling and George III. Find out whatever Mike wants and keep him happy. Watch the awesomeness of Gundam. Find some more third party producers to partner with so we're not limited to half a dozen films per year and can support the struggling artist.

Now we go onto our first Dreamworks film and for the movie I think it should be Hiawatha. For our first Dreamworks movie, I want it to be something original to stand out, and while I love Mouse Detective, Tarzan and Atlantis, I'd rather we have something that's independent from Disney to found our animated catalog on and for Atlantis make sure we got the right tech. 20 million is a pretty good budget for the time, roughly more than Little Mermaid with inflation and well above the Disney standard. Go with Don Bluth because the last reward literally has him pump up a movie by +100 in quality.

We need to do movie distribution because we haven't distributed any movies for months since Dawn of the Dead and need that liquid cash flow and some more successful releases to keep Toho happy. Re-release THX 1138 because TTL this turn is going to be the five year anniversary of its release and I can't think of a better Christmas gift for George than making sure his first movie sees the success and recognition it deserves, not to mention if we release right now we get that x4 profit modifier. Release Hidden Fortress cause that was major inspiration for Star Wars so fans will love it. Finally The War in Space to ride off of Star Wars' success and to release something modern to appease Toho.

Finally make a triumphant return to TV and wow the audiences as a cool A-lister star along with some good performances with our now huge acting performance. Since this turn covers MASH season seven maybe we can make a special guest appearence as Radar to give some closure for the character on the show. Also because I'm as hyped as everyone else, explore and see if we can play Batman and add the Dark Knight to our list of iconic characters.

Lastly for the room, I admit that this is purely a personal thing because I grew up with a similar nursery and I just want some color for the room. Besides personal taste, I think it can be justified in-quest if Bruce grew up with his mom reading him the original Winnie the Pooh books and 1977 did see the release of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh so maybe Bruce and Carrie fell in love while in baby mode and thought it'd be something perfect for their kid. If people feel like it's hogging an action space or don't want to make a nursery featured around a Disney character I'm fine with switching it to something else, maybe Star Wars but it's a bit too much.

Out of the entire plan, the actions I'm most okay with changing are the Conan media blitz and Preparing a Little More. Would replace that with workout, charity or investments, but I'll leave that up to y'all.

THat will actually occur next turn, as well as recruiting new animators.

I have plans, do not worry.

Mostly because Star Wars is about to occur.

... no comment.

It will be an option.

is it wrong that I want Bruce to do something silly. :V

I'm all in @Kaiser Chris ! Just a question, can we add a visit to Comic Con? I mean, it's true we don't have any trailers or any physical media. but we could try to do a Table Reading, or answer some questions. If you think that it should wait for another time though then that's fine as well, just wanted to make sure.

Hey if you have a specific design in mind Im more than happy to change it. Only issue I had with the nursery was that it was a little plain in design, not that it needs to be extravagant, just have some color. Have no idea what Carrie would want.

Comic Con is in July. Tried to find other Fantasy conventions but they're either not within the timeframe or on the other side of the country.

I'm talking about something silly like making it bright, colorful and rainbow like

50 mil, adds to the quality of the costume rolls if there are any, and also increases the quality of the film itself.
That is a very solid investment for a decent price, even of we are breaking the limits of what can be done in Cinema thanks to the Digital technology we should never forget about the most "boring" part of the practical effects, like costumes, make up, and props which makes everything look much more real...

Just take a look at this...

So if someone of the habitual Plan Makers like @overmind @Kaiser Chris @Orion Ultor wants to choose a good name and a better description for that new department it would be great...

Well if you are willing to switch a couple of actions of your plan...

What about Networking? We should talk with both Apple and Jim Henson, seeing that we want to invest/buy both companies...

And for investments... What do you think about my idea for a new costume/prop/make-up department for Lucasfilm that Magoose has approved and that will cost 50 million $?
