The Oscars:
You were with Carrie and George and Marcia as you sat, watching and waiting for the show to begin, and honestly, it was something that was filling you with Jitters. Star Wars was nominated for almost every award that it was able to be nominated for… except for Best Actor but you were not angry at the academy for this slight.
But you were very happy that you were among the front runners for getting the Best Picture. You would love to set it out and rub it into the faces of everyone in Hollywood if that were the case if you won.
But instead, you had to wait. And it was going to be one helluva thing.
And soon the awards were going to begin.
But the biggest surprise was Network. You didn't see it because MGM pulled it from theaters…. Yet… it was beloved by the Academy, even more than Star Wars, Rocky, and Carrie. You honestly would have expected foul play, yet it was good.
And it was a sleeper contender for the major awards.
Yet you were not surprised. After all, you were just happy that a lot of the films were nominated.

Network:
D100 + 50 => 73
Seven Beauties:
D100 + 50 => 68
"And The Oscar for Best Director Goes to…John Guilbert Avildsen!"
At that. The Oscars for you begin, as George seemed to deflate ever so slightly since he had hoped that after all his work, he would finally win his Oscar for Best Director. Yet instead of being mad, he smiled at John, and as John walked forward to collect his award, he only looked back to George, you, and the empty Seat where Mike Eisner would have been sitting.
"You know, I really thought George was going to win this one, but between so many great films, you had to flip the coin and have to choose. Thank you, Bruce, Sly, Mike, Irwin… You all made this award possible. Thank you"
-----------------------------------------------
Best Actor:
Network:
D100 + 50 => 149
Taxi Driver:
D100 + 50 => 105
Rocky:
D100 + 50 => 105
"And The Actor who has won the Best Actor Award of the 49th Academy Awards… Is Peter Finch, for the Network."
It was a solemn award, Peter had died. But you were happy that he won. Something told you that with his death, it never going to be anyone else.
-------------------
Best Actress:
Network:
D100 + 50 => 139
Carrie:
D100 + 50 => 102
Rocky:
D100 + 50 => 114
"And the Oscar for Best Actress goes too… Faye Dunaway, For the Network."
It was the Easy Choice. Faye did great.

Star Wars:
D100 + 50 => 58
Taxi Driver:
D100 + 50 => 58
Carrie:
D100 + 50 => 71
"And the Winner for Best Supporting Actress goes to… Piper Laurie, for Carrie!"
Now that was a surprise. You expected Carrie to win. But instead, it was Piper, the underdog who won. She just collected the award and said thank you, before she went back to her seat… still in shock that she won.
-------------------------------------
Best Editing:
Rocky:
D100 + 50 => 101
Star Wars:
D100 + 50 => 117
"And The Oscar for Best Editing Goes to… Marcia Lucas, For Star Wars!"
Honesty, once you heard that, George let all his stress go. He looked to Marcia, and then to you, and he hugged her, kissing her on the cheek… and she went up to the stage.
"Well George, you did say I would win this one… so I guess I owe you quite a bit." There was some laughter but she continued undaunted. "When we began production, I knew I was going to save this film, because you and Bruce were too busy playing with lightsabers, and talking about the film."
Laughter continued, and you turned to George, who rolled his eyes. "True." he whispered.
"How Carrie and I survived production when you two spent most of your time talking film, is beyond me. But to say nothing of the great art we made together, I think it was well worth it."
And she left the stage, and back to her seat, Oscar in hand.

"And the Winner for Best Supporting Actor goes to… Toshiro Mifune, Star Wars"
That was the biggest surprise of all. Foreign actors, when he didn't speak English that well, did not get that kind of attention as a rule you learned, especially when other American actors or British actors were around.
Hell Mifune wasn't even there, he was busy working in Japan.
So… George had to go up to get it, say thanks, and said something about needing to mail the Oscar to Mifune.

Sly looked devastated that his script didn't win… yet at the same time, he hugged George, who walked forward to the Podium and spoke.
"You know, when I began writing the script, only three people believed in it, after Graffiti. My Wife, My friend Steve Speidberg… and Bruce O'Brian. Everyone else said, work on things that will make you money, not take a risk where nothing can be certain."
He laughed. "Well, I'm glad I listened to my gut and my friends. And I am grateful that I was able to get it done."

You and Irwin walked up to the stage, as Mike was not here still, and you had something to say to all of Hollywood.
Irwin knew you needed to let all out on center stage.
What do you say to Hollywood?:
