Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

The Oscars
The Oscars:

You were with Carrie and George and Marcia as you sat, watching and waiting for the show to begin, and honestly, it was something that was filling you with Jitters. Star Wars was nominated for almost every award that it was able to be nominated for… except for Best Actor but you were not angry at the academy for this slight.

But you were very happy that you were among the front runners for getting the Best Picture. You would love to set it out and rub it into the faces of everyone in Hollywood if that were the case if you won.

But instead, you had to wait. And it was going to be one helluva thing.

And soon the awards were going to begin.

But the biggest surprise was Network. You didn't see it because MGM pulled it from theaters…. Yet… it was beloved by the Academy, even more than Star Wars, Rocky, and Carrie. You honestly would have expected foul play, yet it was good.

And it was a sleeper contender for the major awards.

Yet you were not surprised. After all, you were just happy that a lot of the films were nominated.
---------------------------------------

Best Director:

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 143

Star Wars:D100 + 50 => 142

Taxi Driver:D100 + 50 => 132

Network:D100 + 50 => 73

Seven Beauties:D100 + 50 => 68

"And The Oscar for Best Director Goes to…John Guilbert Avildsen!"

At that. The Oscars for you begin, as George seemed to deflate ever so slightly since he had hoped that after all his work, he would finally win his Oscar for Best Director. Yet instead of being mad, he smiled at John, and as John walked forward to collect his award, he only looked back to George, you, and the empty Seat where Mike Eisner would have been sitting.

"You know, I really thought George was going to win this one, but between so many great films, you had to flip the coin and have to choose. Thank you, Bruce, Sly, Mike, Irwin… You all made this award possible. Thank you"
-----------------------------------------------

Best Actor:

Network:D100 + 50 => 149

Taxi Driver:D100 + 50 => 105

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 105

"And The Actor who has won the Best Actor Award of the 49th Academy Awards… Is Peter Finch, for the Network."

It was a solemn award, Peter had died. But you were happy that he won. Something told you that with his death, it never going to be anyone else.
-------------------

Best Actress:

Network:D100 + 50 => 139

Carrie:D100 + 50 => 102

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 114

"And the Oscar for Best Actress goes too… Faye Dunaway, For the Network."

It was the Easy Choice. Faye did great.
-------------------

Best Supporting Actress:
Network:D100 + 50 => 70
Star Wars:D100 + 50 => 58
Taxi Driver:D100 + 50 => 58
Carrie:D100 + 50 => 71

"And the Winner for Best Supporting Actress goes to… Piper Laurie, for Carrie!"

Now that was a surprise. You expected Carrie to win. But instead, it was Piper, the underdog who won. She just collected the award and said thank you, before she went back to her seat… still in shock that she won.
-------------------------------------
Best Editing:

Rocky: D100 + 50 => 101

Star Wars:D100 + 50 => 117

"And The Oscar for Best Editing Goes to… Marcia Lucas, For Star Wars!"

Honesty, once you heard that, George let all his stress go. He looked to Marcia, and then to you, and he hugged her, kissing her on the cheek… and she went up to the stage.

"Well George, you did say I would win this one… so I guess I owe you quite a bit." There was some laughter but she continued undaunted. "When we began production, I knew I was going to save this film, because you and Bruce were too busy playing with lightsabers, and talking about the film."

Laughter continued, and you turned to George, who rolled his eyes. "True." he whispered.

"How Carrie and I survived production when you two spent most of your time talking film, is beyond me. But to say nothing of the great art we made together, I think it was well worth it."

And she left the stage, and back to her seat, Oscar in hand.
---------------------------------------------------

Best Supporting Actor:

Star Wars:D100 + 50 => 138

Network:D100 + 50 => 137

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 74

Marathon Man:D100 + 50 => 83

"And the Winner for Best Supporting Actor goes to… Toshiro Mifune, Star Wars"

That was the biggest surprise of all. Foreign actors, when he didn't speak English that well, did not get that kind of attention as a rule you learned, especially when other American actors or British actors were around.

Hell Mifune wasn't even there, he was busy working in Japan.

So… George had to go up to get it, say thanks, and said something about needing to mail the Oscar to Mifune.
----------------------------------------

Best Original Screenplay:

Star Wars:D100 + 50 => 137

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 130

Network:D100 + 50 => 90

"And the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay goes to… George Lucas for Star Wars."

Sly looked devastated that his script didn't win… yet at the same time, he hugged George, who walked forward to the Podium and spoke.

"You know, when I began writing the script, only three people believed in it, after Graffiti. My Wife, My friend Steve Speidberg… and Bruce O'Brian. Everyone else said, work on things that will make you money, not take a risk where nothing can be certain."

He laughed. "Well, I'm glad I listened to my gut and my friends. And I am grateful that I was able to get it done."
---------------------

Best Sound:

Star Wars:D100 + 60 => 141

Network:D100 + 50 => 70

Taxi Driver:D100 + 50 => 83

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 83

"And the Oscar for Best Sound is… Oh my again, Star Wars, Don MacDougall, Ray West, Bob Minkler, and Derek Ball."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best Costumes:

Star Wars: (Autopass)

And the Oscar for Best Costume is… Everyone is really going to like this one, Star Wars John Mollo!"

Best Art Direction:
Star Wars: (Autopass)

And the Oscar for Best Art Direction is… Good Lord, Star Wars! John Barry, Norman Reynolds and Leslie Dilley; Set Decoration: Roger Christian"

Best Visual Effects:

Star Wars (Autopass)

And the Oscar for Best Visual Effects is. Sweet Lord, trying to sweep the whole Academy this year, Star Wars! John Stears, John Dykstra, Richard Edlund, Grant McCune and Robert Blalack!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best Cinematography:
Star Wars: D100 + 50 => 135

Taxi Driver:D100 + 50 => 150

Rocky:D100 + 50 => 75

Network: D100 + 50 => 136

And the Oscar for Best Cinematography goes to. This is a surprise, Taxi Driver, Michael Crawford Chapman."

Despite Martin not winning his Director Award, he took solace in the fact that he did in fact, have an award for his movie.
----------------------------------
Best Original Score:

Star Wars (Autopass)

"And the Oscar for Best Original Score goes to… John Williams, Star Wars!

It was not even a contest, everyone else didn't matter, Even Rocky. No one was beating John WIlliams.
----------------------------------------------------

Best Picture:

Rocky:D100 + 70 => 167

Star Wars:D100 + 70 => 164

Taxi Driver: D100 + 70 => 128

Network:D100 + 70 => 97

"And the Oscar for Best Picture goes to… Rocky! Mike Eisner, Bruce O'Brian, Irwin Winkler!"

You and Irwin walked up to the stage, as Mike was not here still, and you had something to say to all of Hollywood.

Irwin knew you needed to let all out on center stage.

What do you say to Hollywood?:
[]Write in

AN: enjoy.

[X] "When George showed me Star Wars, I knew that it was something special. That it wasn't just a script, but a dream. So to see so many others recognize this, to believe in and join us in this dream; it brings me such joy. My thanks to the Academy, and my thanks to you. May the Force be with you."

I misread that, my bad.

[X] "There are many things I could say about the hard work and dedication of all involved, but the real inspiration for all of this began with a man with the heart and talent for it all and in that way, I would like to personally like to shake their hand here on the podium for all their hard work and dedication to the craft. Sylvester Stallone, please join us up here."

Um, Rocky Won, not Star Wars.

I'm conflicted. On the one side I kind of want to just say thanks and move on. On the other hand, I want to frnakly throw the gauntlet down to all of Hollywood and frankly dare them to try and dethrone us as the up and coming new Kings of Hollywood...but that would probably be suicidal.

*Sigh* I just don't know what to do here.

Well, we may just go for the Joke Vote...

[X] I am joining this stage with great pride and gratitude. Pride for the countless leaps the cinema made as a whole. The quality and the soul of this year nominees and other films who sadly were left out, left me weeping and screaming my feelings out many times over. My gratitude for every person who made those feelings possible is immeasurable and I am frightened and hopeful for the future, because I know that it will be better than I can ever imagine from now on. Thank you all very much and special thanks to (friends, family, people).

[] "Next time? We're gonna sweep every category we get. Enjoy the win for now, Sy."
-[] Do history's first mic drop.
-[] Apologize to Sy later and promise him a spot in the sequel.

EDIT: Changing my vote

That moment when you make a billion dollars and literally change how movies are made but then one Italian Stallion delivers a suckerpunch.

Damn, what a hell of an Oscars. This is definitely going to be more controversial than any of the Oscars OTL with Star Wars losing both Best Director and Best Picture to Rocky. I guess Rocky is cemented as the definitive underdog film. Oh well, at least it went to the OTL winners and no matter what Lucasfilms still won everything save for Best Actor and Actress, and Toshiro is the first Asian to win an Oscar. Poor George though. Hope he can at least find comfort in getting an Oscar for Best Screenplay and sharing it with Marcia.

Although I think the real snubs are Mark not getting eventhe nomination for Best Actor even though he legit had the best performance out of anyone in Star Wars and had a nat 99, and Carrie was just nominated for Best Supporting Actress instead of Best Actress even though she's the lead female actress. Also gotta wonder why the hell Mike Eisner of all people is MIA for the Oscars even though he won Best Picture on his first Producer credit. If Mike isn't in attendance then that makes me really scared for what the hell kind of shit we're about to deal with that Mike had to take higher priority.

As much as I want to flip the bird to Hollywood and make some legendary quote about Lucasfilms, this movie is in the end Stallone's and we really didn't do much in production besides give the budget. He deserves the spotlight and praise far more than us, especially since Stallone didn't get an Oscar for Best Screenplay or Actor.
