Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

And if we ever want to adapt the Sons of Hurin or the Silmarillion we are never mentioning this to Christopher Tolkien
Not to be argumentative or anything, but is it even possible to adapt the stories mentioned? I mean, I think I recall that Tolkien himself said (and his wishes have been respected) not to adapt the Silmarillion or the story about Beren and Luthien.

We would need the permission of Christopher Tolkien to do so, and we may be able to get it if we prove that we can adapt respectfully Tolkien´s other books...

But if we ever mention that brilliant idea of trying to mix the Legendarium chronology with Superhero Comics and a videogame, that is pretty much lost forever...
That all depends on how the 80's go.

And if the gamble that is Christopher Reeves and Richard Donners superman pays off.
Well, I am assuming that it will depend on more things (whoever buys DC is not going to put every egg in the same basket)...

One last thing since I have finished the rolls.

Colombia... What the fuck.

HOW?

You... WHA!

Who the duck said anything about mixing? All I wanted to do was ask him if he'd be alright with us paying homage to his dad's works and place it in the earliest part of the timeline, and only then reference it occasionally.

The Auction
The Auction:
----------------------------------

DC Comics Deal:

Universal:D100 + 50 => 78
Disney:D100 + 20 => 91
Colombia:D100 + 30 => 117
United Artists:D100 + 20 => 28
Paramount:D100 + 30 => 94

To say that the DC Comics Deal was something unexpected and a gamble you wouldn't think anyone would be insane enough to attempt to do, is something of a great deal

Colombia somehow outbid… UA, Disney, and Universal… and managed to squeeze them out at the last moment, by spending only 300 million dollars, and fully backing Donner's Superman.

To say that Sid was shocked that Alan Hirschfield himself was risking his position and a helluva lot of his wealth on a failing comic company, and it's a movie that it could potentially make…

Well… Color everyone in Hollywood surprised.

Well, at least you weren't involved with that shitshow.

You wonder just what the fuck Colombia is going to do now with that.

Reward: Colombia Owns DC Comics.

Alan went into considerable debt to do it, but somehow he thinks he knows something that everyone else doesn't.

Except Sid who swore at him for almost ten minutes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Warner Animation (The Loony Toons): The Classic Looney Toons characters are all a packaged deal, just as they were when Schlesinger studios was bought up by Warner when he came in. There is no doubt about it, they are among the most popular cartoon characters in the world. And they carry with them the price tag of success. (Minimum bid on The Loony Toons must begin at 50 million. Gain all the Loony Toons characters, and the rights to their shorts, TV show, and other marketing and promotional material.) $150 Million

Lucasfilm:D100 + 50 => 125
Universal:D100 => 93+50=123
Disney:D100 + 30 => 130
Colombia:D100 + 10 => 20
United Artists:D100 + 10 => 50
Paramount:D100 + 20 => 73

Honestly, you should have been less surprised that the Mouse won.

As it turned out, there was a deal between Jack Warner and the Disney family so that stewardship and ownership of Loony Tunes would indeed go to them, should Warner ever collapse.

Why Jack Warner agreed to that, you didn't know. But all you knew, was somehow, Chuck Jones himself was getting the last laugh over his long-time nemesis/Rival, Walt Disney, as he was, part of the deal to take over the studio… was now head of Disney Animation.

You didn't know what the fuck was going on anymore. But Sid Shineburg was pissed at that.

Reward: Disney now controls Looney Tunes and all the animation of Warner.

Chuck Jones in now head of Disney Animation.
-----------------------------

And Clint somehow agreed to it. Something about "He was hoping for Lucasfilms, but would settle for anyone, not in Universal."

The Bad blood continues to grow through Hollywood as Sid realizes something. He burned some bridges to get to this position. And would now need to lie in it.

Reward: Dirty Harry is now owned by Colombia.

You did put quite a bit of money into the war chest, for the first meeting of the Year.
----------------------------------------

Welp, we went full turkey and stilll came out losing. At least we got THX and Enter the Dragon. Would've prefered that we got the Exorcist as well if only to stop the studios from making the sequels.

Oh well, them's the breaks.

Now, to plan the futture of Lucasfilms and what we can do.

Ideas for future purchases: We need to buy the rights for Chronicles of Narnia, also the rights for Chronicles of Prydain since we can do no worse than Disney's The Black Cauldron.

Also, We do own the rights for the Tolkien books save for the Silmarillion, right? I ask because they are not included in the Informational post about Lucasfilm Warchest.
Hopefully Columbia won't get bought out by Sony in this timeline.
...

Well, at least we'll have horrible Batman movies in TTL instead of horrible Spider-Man ones in the 2010's.

BTW isnt someone working on our own cartoon characters for our future animation studio?
We don't have an animation studio at all, and at best (if Orion Ultor's omake is canon) we have Ron Clements and John Musker working for us but not as animators. At the same time, I don't think we'll have that much competition considering that Warner animation went down and was bought by Disney in what I consider to be mostly an insurance so that no one tries to one up them. And considering how things are doing in the animationd Department there, I don't think they'll last that long either.

That reminds me, if we can swing Don Bluth and his Journey to the West series, I'd like to propose the idea that it has a crossover episode with Aladdin, like Hercules did in the OTL cartoon.

HOLY SHIT! Out of all the things that could have possibly happened, Columbia going all in and squad wiping Hollywood to get the lion's share of Warner Bros. I would have thought Universal would get a pretty hefty cake, but aside from Ocean's for future heist movies they got practically shit all.

You know, I think I might be partially responsible for this even though it's all technically Magoose Dice in the end. I made Taxi Goose just as a fun way of getting security for us to get Taxi Driver and do Scorcese a solid. I think that in-universe that seeing Taxi Driver get bought for chump change and turned into a hit and instant classic somehow broke something in Alan Hirschfield and he went full Based and decided to go on a one man mission to turn Columbia into a Titan that will outperform Lucasfilms, Universal and Disney. There's no way in hell OTL Columbia could have done this, so Alan must have had done a Wolf of Wall Street and constantly rolled nat 100s to convince some very wealth backers to give him the dough. So Columbia overnight became one of the most powerful studios in Hollywood, but they're also in mega debt. Damn, never underestimate the quiet ones.

DC Comics Deal:

Universal:D100 + 50 => 78
Disney:D100 + 20 => 91
Colombia:D100 + 30 => 117
United Artists:D100 + 20 => 28
Paramount:D100 + 30 => 94

Reward: Colombia Owns DC Comics.

Alan went into considerable debt to do it, but somehow he thinks he knows something that everyone else doesn't.

Except Sid who swore at him for almost ten minutes.

Yeah it stinks that we had to sacrifice DC Comics, but at the very least they're not in the hands of Universal and considering this is Columbia's do or die moment, I don't think they're going to pull any Zaslav shit and Alan is going to do everything he can to make sure the movie is pretty damn good. As said before, competition breeds high quality, and just because a brand isn't in the hands of Lucasfilms it doesn't mean that things are bad. Just look at Nintendo, treats their fans like absolute crap with lawsuits against fan-organized tournaments and draconian laws covering internet footage of their games, but they consistently make some of the best games in the business with the worst Nintendo exclusives being decent and are all around fun games. Plus here TTL even though Universal has been the Evil Empire, they have learned from their mistakes and allowed Kubrick a free hand to make a masterpiece of a biopic and the perfect war movie. I think DC for the moment is in safe hands and Superman will still be great.

Chuck Jones in now head of Disney Animation.

Honestly I'm okay with this. IF we didn't get Warner Animation then I was hoping that Disney would get it and while I kind of wish we raised the price tag for a bigger bonus, I think it's safe to say they're in decent hands because Ron Miller and Roy Disney both love Walt and they'll want to make sure that Looney Tunes is integrated well with Mickey and the gang. And hey, at least we get Who Framed Roger Rabbit Confirmed and we'll see plenty of potential crossovers with Bugs and Mickey which is plenty cool. I'd say with this Disney is financially secure until their rebound because the Looney Tunes showing up at Disneyland and World is going to give a major boost to the theme park revenue and Chuck Jones if nothing else loves animation, so maybe he'll give them the kick in the nuts to take it seriously again.

-[X]Dirty Harry: Clint Eastwood crowning Jewel of Urban crime drama, as well as the best action movie in years. It's more of a personal favor for Clint to get his baby back into his hands. And the fact he may owe you a great many favors. $50 Million

Damn shame about Dirty Harry, but at least it's not in Universal's Hands and hopefully Columbia gives him some creative and directorial freedom.

"Am I so out of touch? No, it's Lucasfilms who are wrong." -Sidney Sheinberg 1977

Lucasfilm:D100 + 100 => 186
Universal:D100 => 33

You looked at Sid with vindication.

It was your gift to George.

Reward: THX has returned.

Well, this alone has made this turn a Win. The beloved first child returns and George can see his movie be loved and appreciated by the public with a proper release and vindication that he never made any bad movies. Great Christmas gift to George and he's going to be eternally grateful to Bruce for this. Looks like we're locked in to direct Empire and if George and Marcia ever have a biological son, I think there's a fair chance they'll be named Bruce Lucas.

-[X] Enter the Dragon: $15 Million

Lucasfilm:D100 + 30 => 105
Universal:D100 + 30 => 45
Colombia: D100 => 5
United Artists:D100 => 12

You would honor Bruce's Legacy. He would be proud of you.

Reward: Enter the Dragon has entered Lucasfilms

Well we get Bruce Lee's last film to join the family and we can properly honor his legacy. The company that made this and The Way of the Dragon has just gone defunct so we can buy Way of the Dragon and posthumously make Bruce a part of the family.

-[X] Rebel without a Cause: $4 Million

Lucasfilm:D100 + 5 => 105 | natural 100: 1

-[X] East of Eden: $4 Million
Lucasfilm:D100 => 75
Universal:D100 => 92
Disney:D100 => 76

Sid got his win over you.
--------------------------------------

-[X] Giant: $4 Million

Lucasfilm:D100 => 38
Universal:D100 => 50
Disney:D100 => 51

Same with Disney.

Damn shame that the James Dean trilogy is split three ways. At least we got the most famous one and we can hopefully get the other two one day.

-[X] Blazing Saddles: $4 Million

Lucasfilm:D100 => 87
Universal:D100 => 45

You always wanted to work with Mel Brooks.

MAybe offering to give him the film might be enough to do it.

Reward: Gain Blazing saddles.

Well we now have our in with Mel Brooks so hopefully Spaceballs is a Lucasfilms production.

Okay to go over all the other wins we have in our library:

  • A Streetcar Named Desire
  • The Maltese Falcon
  • Arscenic and Old Lace

Three classics and some of the greatest films in Hollywood history. Going to be reliable in residuals and VHS/DVD sales, great additions to the far future Lucas+, and if need be can be remade like Great Gatsby.

  • Mean Streets
  • Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Both of these are Martin Scorcese films and with this we now own 3 Martin Scorcese Films and a majority of his existing film canon. We give control to Martin and his opinion of his will go greatly.

Get to Know Your Rabbit

A Brian De Palma film. Same as above.

  • You're a Big Boy Now
  • Finnian's Rainbow
Two of Francis Ford Coppola's earliest works. Unfortunately we weren't able to get The Rain People which is also a movie of his and for some reason Sidney was gun ho and got it. Endears Francis to us, hopefully we can bring him fully into the fold soon.

  • The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady
  • Mary, Mary!
Two of Debbie Reynolds iconic films. Rosie O'Grady is very important because it was Debbie's first credited role as a major supporting character and her second film. So we get some nice musicals and continue to prove ourselves as a beloved son-in-law.

So overall a bit of a stinky win, but a win nonetheless. On the brightside, this will push us to make more original stuff to add to the Lucasfilms library so that crowd of people pushing for mostly originals will be pleased and we'll have lots of fun adapting pitches.

I think that, in character, we went in with all the breashness of youth and forgot we're still the new kids on the block when it comes to having enough money and creditors, unlike the more established studios.

We'll just have to show them...show them all!
