Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

no may or may not about it. So many things that happened globally happened at least in part due to energy concerns. Also, this means the first major nuclear disaster is probably gonna happen in american soil which may or may not be a good thing overall.
...But that is out of your control now, isn't it.

You just have to hope people are going to do the smart thing. the competent thing.

and hope that it isn't just going to be people doing bad things and cutting costs for fun and profit.

Gaylord is actually an old name. Hell the concept of associating the word Gay with homosexuality is about as out as the timeframe the quest passes if im remember correctly.

This was a real guy?! And his parents named him GAYLORD?!

AND HE'S THE REASON FOR EARTH DAY?!?
He's also a badass marine who served at Okinawa...

But I digress.

He's actually one of the few senators I knew about as a kid, and not because of his name, but because of his environmental work. One of my old teachers used to praise the old senator for giving a damn about the planet.

So I'm giving him his dues.

And yes, he's the reason for Earth day.
Gaylord is actually an old name. Hell the concept of associating the word Gay with homosexuality is about quest time if im remember correctly.
Yep.

Literally anytime I hear the name Gaylord, the first thing I associate it with is a field trip I went on as a kid to a local movie theater that I used to go to all the time as a kid that's now an Amazon warehouse(blegh!) and there was a movie poster outside for the film "Meet the Fockers." So whenever I hear that name, the first thing I think of is Adam Sandler as Gaylord Focker and that field trip.

Edit: I stand corrected, it's actually called "Meet the Parents"

The thing is that it is imposible (due to the design of Nuclear reactors in the west) that anything like Chernobyl could happen (and even with the design flaws of the RBMK reactors, Chernobyl explosion would never have happened if the operators didn't ignore every established security measure and procedures)

So no, even if the worst come to pass we could have another 3 Mile Island incident, not another Chernobyl...

Actually Meet the Fockers was the 2004 sequel to Meet the Parents. So you may have been right the first time.

Bruce O'Brian, a real American hero. When I read the update I gasped because I had plans to make an Omake of Bruce meeting with some congressmen to do some schmoozing for the bill but fortunately it went a-okay. Another Poggers update all around.

An American Icon Turn 44 Results (March-April 1976)

-[X]Editing Five Dates: You need to find an editor. And preferably, not Marcia, she deserves a break. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 48

It was honestly quite a good thing you went to another person, other than Marcia.

You found an ole Fox Editor that was branching out as he no longer has the work he had. Some guy named Richard Chew… at least that's what you thought his name was.

Anyway, you paid him some of the leftover money from the budget, something close to 50,000 dollars and he said he could get it done in a few months.

Reward: In 4 months, Five Dates will be completed.

Hey cool, this guy was one of Marcia's partners in OTL for Star Wars so glad we picked him up and can hopefully make him a permanent part of the Lucasfilms family. So if it's done in four months then that means we can release Five Dates in July. Probably best to wait until August so we can go full media blitz after the Olympics.

-[X]Olympic Training: It's time to get serious about training to win a gold. You really need to back up your documentary that made everyone else out to be winners. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 99

No matter what the funny number always finds a way man. Surprised Carrie didn't join him but I guess she's busy with music stuff. Man we literally are turning into the Rocky from LA, I guess that's a great way to generate some side effect excitement for the film. Hopefully with a 99 this means we're in plenty of good shape and ready to kick some ass for America.

-[X]The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson: Mike had an idea, put you on a late-night TV show, and give an interview. You don't see why not? DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 63

You looked at the camera and smiled at it all.

Thankfully Carrie was not here, otherwise, you were absolutely sure she would have panicked at other questions, or the fact that her father was in the audience.

But thankfully, Johnny was focused on three things. And Fisher was not as interested in the interview once he saw it was only you.

Johnny kept it focused, however, making it easier for you.

Blissful married life, Star Wars, and Lucasfilms.

Okay, looks like we're doing good overall with a decent appearance on the Tonight Show. Although it comes with a bit of a snag in the form of Ed Fisher who we're likely to have a talk with after the cameras stop rolling. Certainly fun times ahead. Hopefully we at least get a decent Star Wars boost from this.

-[X]Carrie's Musical Mystery: So Carrie, what are you working on? Wow… That is cool. DC:??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 48

Carrie left a note when she left with a smiling picture.

"You don't get to see it early, you'll see it when it goes platinum."

Failure. Seems that Carrie decided to keep it a secret from everyone.

-[X] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC: 15 (Write-in what you want to learn about below
--[X] Learn Singing Rolled:D100 => 6

You can't carry a pitch to save your life.

Failure.

Shame about the failures for music and we likely won't be in Carrie's album, but at least nothing terrible happened and Carrie's all good just keeping it secret. Surprised that Magoose Dice decided to betray the waifu for once, but if this is the price we have to pay for other great success and Carrie fluff and Crits when it counts then so be it.

Reward: The Tolkien Legendarium, save for the Silmarillion, is now entirely under your stewardship.

However, before you can begin production on any films or scripts… You must speak to Christopher Tolkien, if only as a courtesy.

Hollywood be like:

Pretty nice, looks like we're set to meet Christopher Tolkein in the near future. Hopefully we can make him proud.

-[X] Washington Lobbying
--[X] 1976 Clean Atomic Recycling and Energy Act [$1,000,000 ]: This initiative aims to reduce America's dependence on foreign energy and protect the environment through various measures. The initiative intends to convert old coal plants into nuclear reactors to improve the general air quality, recycle nuclear waste via methods discovered by Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, and reduce the overall cost of electricity as a utility to a more reasonable standard. By converting decommissioned coal plants into nuclear reactors, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, which can have detrimental effects on the environment, and transitioning the nation away from coal at a reasonable rate and retaining the workforce. Additionally, the recycling of nuclear waste aims to minimize the environmental impact of nuclear waste disposal while also reducing nuclear waste. The initiative also hopes to reduce the overall cost of electricity to make it more affordable and accessible to all citizens, utilizing energy retention devices ("Sand Batteries") while still meeting the country's energy needs. Overall, the CARE Act is a comprehensive effort to protect the environment while also ensuring access to affordable energy for all Americans. Rolled:D100 => 96

You honestly didn't think that a million dollars was enough, especially since many of the congressmen and senators were not interested in what an actor would say. Hell considering that, before you just did things on a local level, no bigger than the state of California. Which, while really good, was nothing. You honestly were just… happy to help people.

They shouldn't have cared about everything.

But when that Actor was arguably one of the most famous and influential Americans alive? When he has been doing crazy shit for the last 6 years, where most people could see you as… well, the American.

People in power tend to listen to a man with such soft power. So they listened to your proposal.

Now you were no politician, hell you had no real interest in politics at all. But you did pay attention to the world around you, and see what you saw.

The Oil Crisis was still in memory, and you remembered how many gas rations and even just… the fear of what was going on for the world and for America's place in it. That much was certain.

You knew that the Soviets were using the strike in Hollywood as propaganda, as well as pushing more technically impressive films that were just… flooding the European market. And they were really making the US look like chumps.

And as a good American, anything that would make the commies look bad was always a thing.

Besides, if the US can become a net exporter of Energy, without relying on foreign oil from Gulf nations, wouldn't that mean that it would be stronger?

While you didn't have a completely comprehensive plan, you did… have enough to get it onto the house floor.

Hopefully, it would be enough to see it pass.
-----------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, with Senator Gaylord Nelson:

"GET THIS ONTO THE DOCKET NOW, I DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS WHO IT MIGHT PISS OFF OF OUR LOBBYISTS! IT WILL MAKE THE SOVIETS LOOK BAD! AND THAT WILL BE A WIN!"
-------------------------------------------------

You just had to hope that democracy works.

Reward: You think it's going to pass…

You will learn of that result in two turns, in the Bicentennial.

Hurray for government corruption and fear of the Soviets as America needs a win?

Also Senator Gaylord Nelson, good on you for spearheading this.

Hopefully it wins.

America Fuck Yeah.

Common USA Win and a nice save for the environment. If you're looking for more people to use for future writing then here's two guys who may be of help:

Brown is Bruce's local congressman for his district and is famous for being a massive champion of the environment and science support. He is the Chairman of the Environment and Atmosphere sub-committee of the House Science and Technology committee. He's probably the guy Bruce went to first with the CARE Act and to get the ball rolling in the House.

Hatfield is probably Gaylord's counterpart for CARE support in the GOP. He's a Senator who sits on the Energy Research and Water Resources sub-committee on the Senate Interior and Insular Affairs committee. Major leader in the Senate with lots of clout in the Republicans and is a fiscal Liberal and social conservative with ideology and personality that seems to mirror Bruce. One of Hatfield's trademark policy wonks was being a massive opponent of nuclear weapons proliferation while at the same time fighting for safe and efficient nuclear energy.

Bruce O'Brian, a real American hero
And Now GI Joe is going to have to put a Bruce O'Brian Expy. If only to make sure they can have cool shit, or maybe sell toys.

Though I am going to say this, The US Army might be looking at Bruce to make some films for them, so keep that in mind after the olympics.

WEll he's good.

In fact all I will say is that I toned down what happened for the funny number.

Mostly because I find it very unrealistic for women to throw themselves at Bruce, who is a happily married man... and is not interested in having to deal with a mountain of attempted sexual assault claims.

And I didn't find it funny.

Listen, Bruce is easily the most handsome man in Hollywood people, but I don't want to perpetuate a myth that all men are unfaithful in this town.

Also his fangirls need to realize that he's married.

Get over it, you had your chance.

Let Carrie have her secrets... lord knows bruce has some with his supernatural acting ability (BY THE POWER OF OMAKES!)
Pretty nice, looks like we're set to meet Christopher Tolkein in the near future. Hopefully we can make him proud.
He is going to be very...

interesting to say the least.
America Fuck Yeah.

Thank you.

But remember there is a bit of anti-communism in the senate for obvious reasons... hight of the cold war after all.

And if America can be less reliant on foreign energy.... thats a win.

Fangirls:

Actually I imagine that for a while when it's outed that their dating that there's a lot of women and teenage girls who fantasize of being with Bruce, after they're married the narrative switches over to gushing and shipping the O'Brians with public sentiment widely in favor after all of their cute public appearences together and then finalized with Star Wars and Five Dates. In the Carrie Fisher Bio, it describes how when her parents were married everyone treated them as American royalty in a very similar vein to Charles and Diana. I imagine the narrative is going to be the exact same with Bruce and Carrie, especially with their relationship having a lot more Disney elements with an average guy from a New York middle class family venturing out to Hollywood on his own and meeting and falling for a Hollywood princess with the two standing by each other's side in their rise to fame and glory. It's a tale as old as time and one of the greatest love stories ever told.

Speaking of Bruce and Carrie, it makes me wonder how their marriage is going to change Hollywood social dynamics. Of course there's probably a lot of actors and celebrities who root for them, but what's important about Bruce and Carrie is that in the town of divorce and cheating you have a power couple of two A-list actors and massively successful polymaths and entreprenuers, and despite the fame and success they're very grounded people who are still madly in love with each other and deeply committed to one another. If you're an actor dating another actor or just some sort of celebrity couple in general, I have to imagine there's a massive amount of social pressure from fans and the general public to adhere to the same level of wholesome love or else one of you or both are failures and don't really love each other. I can just imagine couples like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston facing the demand to be perfect and loving their relationship and when they end the relationship people go down hard on judgement and it's just a toxic mess even if the breakup is civil and mutual. Either you're just like Bruce and Carrie or that isn't real love.
