Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

By the way, I watched Conan the Barbarian last night and I hate to say it....but I'm not impressed. I really liked the movie's fight scenes, atmosphere and music; but everything else was kind of bland with rushed pacing and a plot and characters that felt to be really shallow. To me it just seemed a dated popcorn flick that isn't worth Bruce's time in starring. I'm honestly fine passing on the mantle of Conan to Arnold and playing Solomon Kane because that seems much more narratively interesting, and the fact that John Milnus is likely to write it like OTL has me concerned that we won't see some of the OG stories depth and Conan's greater personality and character.

Magoose, what is it about Conan that Bruce loves so much?

You have to read the books to understand truly, because the books are so much better then the films, but as a fan of Conan, I will tell you why I like him.

Conan is a complete story. He has a beginning, middle, and end, with character growth throughout his adventures, and that appeals to me. His fight scenes are awesome, if basic, and there aren't as many troubling Racist undertones like in Solomon Kane (Though it adds to Kanes Character, which I think makes him far more fascinating), and honestly, seeing a rags-to-riches story is very fun from a homeless wandering mercenary to a King is just so fun.

Plus, he's one of the few beings in the greater Cthuluverse that can stand up to the Elder Ones and win... that alone is badass and awesome.

Also, there is just the fact Howard's Worldbuilding in Hyborian Age is so incredible that it can stand on its own without needing Conan to serve as our avatar to explore it.

Now I'm just gushing over Howard's craftsmanship over his many characters, and how insanely good he was and that it is a damn shame he was taken so soon.

Yeah, that's the problem and why I want Bruce to star in it instead of Arnold.

They had zero faith in Arnold's ability to speak English when making the movie. He was Austrian, and his accent was even worse when they hired him to play Conan. Some executives basically didn't even want him to talk according to some accounts because his accent was so bad!

So they basically turned Conan from a man of intellect, whose brains matched his brawn and who could match wits with any sorcerer and blades with any warrior, into…Arnold. The guy who barely speaks and punches a camel whilst drunk.

I love the movie. I think it's got a great atmosphere, great action, great designs, great music and the plot is a good basic structure…but Arnold ruins it, with how little he talks, or when he talks he only ever in one scene sounds half intelligent. He reduces Conan to a wordless brute who barely talks, because he wasn't an actor then, he was literally hired simply for his body.

Bruce can bring a similar physicality and the intellect and wisdom that made Conan truly Conan in the novels. That's why I'm so desperate to have him play Conan.

That and Conan is Bruce's favourite character, so if a movie is being made about Conan, I expect Bruce to want to play him unless someone tries to deter him for some reason.

Edit; To simplify it as much as possible, Arnold's involvement and casting helped turn it from a Conan movie, into an Arnold movie, I'm hoping Bruce can keep it as a Conan movie.

Edit 2: Arnold didn't play Conan. Arnold played the result of the writers trying to write around Arnold so he could play Conan.

@Magoose does Bruce also love LOTR?

Because we have an interesting window of opportunity here, the current holder of the rights United Artists will sell the rights in 1976...

It may be a good chance of getting the rights of the most influential Fantasy saga ever made...

I wonder if a more intelligent Conan will result in a completely different popular image of barbarians than from OTL, to the point that even in D&D, INT isn't seen as the dump stat...would be a shame to lose Grog Strongjaw tho.

I wonder if we'll end up with a LOTR that is a lot more faithful to the original pathos of the series than what Peter Jackson gave us OTL, to the point where we get the thumbs up from Chris Tolkien.

The Playground: ( Heroic Fantasy / Coming of Age / Comedy )

Brian Doran (Baby Brother- "Cowboy")
I almost forgot about this, but we now can actually get Uncle Clint for the role...that'll be great!

But this also did make me remember that if we want a shot to act alongside John Wayne, we have two years left before he passes away.

[EDIT: Actually, I completely forgot he worked on Star Wars too in OTL, albeit his lines were cut...how'd that go here?]
Well let's just say… I need 2 d100s

For a gun that needs loading

And some fun to be had by me
Oh dear.

I'll role #2.

[EDIT: I've got a bad feeling about this.]

I just did it for funsies cause usually Kaiser Chris dice is pretty fair and balanced on my Alternatehistory RPGs and I wanted a decent chance for Bruce in comparison to Fan and Orion, but now I am afraid of what I have unleashed.
Remember all of Mikes wishes to go to war with Universal.

They got the message and have decided to act appropriately to a man who has hated them.

And something else.

Fun times ahead…

Don't worry kids after our party we will have an evil empire to slay.
