Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

So just a question will Satoshi Tajiri and the Guy's at Game Freak enjoy Hiking in any of the national parks in the US for ideas for Pokemon?

Because the Idea of Pokemon being our co-parenting thing with Nintendo and Lucusarts is kinda sweet.

You know, originally I also wanted for us to try for the Pokemon Franchise, but now I'm thinking, what if we go for the Digimon Franchise instead? It's an oddly mature series that grows as time goes on, and with our distribution and production we can make sure that it gains more traction in the U.S.

Yeah I' be fine with Digimon. I think some of the games could use some work but the franchise is awesome. I used to town a shit ton of their toys. You can do a lot more with designs when you don't have to keep things vaguely pet like.

And the fact that we own a toy subsidiary means it wouldn't be weird for us to buy out Bandai. Digimon originally started out as a variant of Tamagotchi meant to appeal to boys more. So it'd (theoretically) be easier then tying to get Pokémon organically.

I also wouldn't say no to Monster Ranchers but that's preferably a secondary franchise to capitalize on the mon genre instead of being our main entrant to it. I also enjoyed the anime.

You guys seriously fine with Nintendo getting Pokemon too?

There's a good chance Nintendo scoops them up if we dont.

And there are a lot of factors why Digimon never became as successful as Pokemon. Pokemon's head start aside, I feel like art-wise Pokemon is better overall with the demographic we'll most likely to appeal to (e.g. kids). Digimon imo looks cooler in some ways, but as a kid Pokemon was just better for a lot of kids I interacted with.

Edit: I think I need to point out that getting Digimon AND Pokemon is highly unlikely. We're more likely to get one and lose the other to Nintendo.

And we ALL know what a perfect combo Pokemon and Nintendo will be. So unless you guys wanna see the gap between Sega and Nintendo widen again, then do so at your own peril.

I will say that if you're all dead set on Digimon, then google "why is digimon not as popular".

There are a lot of points we can probably fix. And a lot Im not sure we can, but even then we'll still be up against a Pokemon-Nintendo partnership.

If the plan is simply to partner with them for distribution, then imma have to stop you there. Considering the proximity to Japan, here in the Philippines we were exposed to both Pokemon and Digimon. And anime and manga also went viral here. So it says a lot that despite that, decades later, Pokemon cemented itself as one of if not THE MOST popular game and anime franchises from Japan.

And Digimon? Looking for anyone who loves Digimon more than Pokemon is like looking for a 2nd Rayquaza in Emerald.

If you guys seriously wanna commit to Digimon, we're gonna have to seriously make changes. What kind, I dunno. Hence why Id pick Pokemon over Digimon.

I said this before but an idea I had was that LucasFilm could join the Pokemon Company so that ownership is split 4 ways between it, Gamefreak, Nintendo and Creatures Inc. Because each company has it's own niche within Pokemon. Nintendo does advertising, distribution and helps with the games, Gamefreak does the bulk of the game develpment and Creatures Inc. does the trade card thing. So LucasFilm could potentially join to help create the anime and movies and possibly outreach in the USA. But that's my idea.

Honestly probably one of the great problems the Digimon franchise had when comepetimg with Pokemon was that their games quality was very variable while Pokemon remained constant so if we can avoid that the Mon war may not end in the 00's

Yeah I'm fine with it. Not ecstatic about competing against it but as long as we have a successful mon franchise and are having fun with it I'm good.

Just to be clear, Im not saying fuck no to digimon. It's just that Pokemon has a very clear cut road to success. We CAN succeed with digimon even with Nintendo teaming up with pokemon, but we need to really commit to it.

Apparently, one of the ways we can do so is if we lean hard on Digimon's "cooler" aesthetic. Low level digis are cute, sure, but I can at least say that for many people ive met, digimon always felt like it had the cooler designs for the higher level mons.

Also, we shouldnt compete against poke with the kids crowd. I think we should focus on teens and older. Others have also pointed out that unlike the consistency pokemon games have, the digis being over the place really hurt fanbase growth. Then finally, my favorite. We REALLY need to invest in the art. Specifically the TCG. Try to make it affordable while still looking "high quality". And we need to do it before pokemon releases. To avoid being called copycats.

This. Im not saying we dont do anything new for the next century, but we need a core gameplay recipe that stays constant even with new additions or iterations in each game. Completely different gameplay should be a different series or a spinoff. Like poke did with mystery dungeon or ranger. We need something familiar for old fans to come home to.

We potentially have a winning combo with the artistic milestones we made with final fantasy. And combined with the genesis' tech, we have an opportunity to really shine with a mon series that is both gorgeous and really fun to play.

We'll deal with a portable version (one other thing i think that made poke popular is the ability to bring a gameboy to a playground and have kids advertise it for free) later down the road.

Granted I've only played a couple of games besides digimon world 3 but this seems like a good formula to me.

Somehow people learn how to mass enter the digiworld
People explore the digiworld with their digimon partners and sometimes get into friendly or competitive battles with each other.
Some powerful digimon or organization causes a problem that you have to handle.

We also have to have a consistent capture mechanic I hear the one in cyber slueth is good. Some games had a capture mechanic some games only allowed you to get specific digimon.

I agree kids should be a secondary demographic. Not to say we shouldn't have a good number of cute digimon. Or go to far into the "and older" category . Kids like cool stuff too after all. I also do like the cuter digimon when it's thematically appropriate (usually the ones in-training or rookies).

Google says that the internet really started on 1993 (at least for the actual public). We can write the plot of Digimon as starting when the public gets access to the internet. And because of the sudden amount of power and data that poured into the internet, a portal to another world is opened.

A digital world, full of digital creatures.

The world of digimon.

Good way to get people excited about networking and the internet maybe.

Edit: some other themes we can explore

Human greed and exploitation: the digiworld offers new possibilities and new resources. Potentially limitless resources. Meaning we can tackle the issues of hunger for power and expansionism when governments decide they wanna control parts of the near boundless digital world.

Immortality and the value of life: the digiworld processes death and wounds differently. Instead of cells, the basic building blocks of life are bytes of data. Immortality and reincarnation suddenly becomes possible.

Transcendence, transhumanism and CYBERPUNK: many humans see the possibilities, wonder if it wouldnt be better to fully "ascend" to the digital world. Are they still human? Is it still them after their bodies pass away?

Environmentalism and Ready Player One: everyones enamored with the digital world. Does the "real" world still matter? We could just make our own Perfect World here.

Long story short, if we go with digi. WE NEED TO GO ALL IN.

Anyways those are just some of the themes I thought might help the digi franchise.

We could also incorperate the internet into the game to trade, chat or duel (if it's strong enough to do so). Might help it stand out from Pokemon.

You know, we could have some really REALLY fun crossovers if we hook up the digiworld with Wreck-It-Ralph's arcadeverse.
To add to that since we own some other properties like Conan, Marvel and Star wars we could have some cool costume and color swaps for the Digimon and Digidestined, Think of what Leomon could look like dressed as Conan or Andromon in Iron Man Colors.
