Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

well I hope that at least they would avoid the stupid decisions that killed G1 OTL and hopefully developed better the characters and not doing that BS of making Megatron a hero I honestly prefer the original G1 comics depiction of him as charismatic megalomaniac conqueror instead of the revolutionary hero IDW tried to make him into

Can we have Megatron be Optimus's friend before enemies as for like an idea about Peter Collin brother (the inspiration for Optimus personally and voice) is a twisted parallel of what Peter saw his brother as became corrupted from a bad system and also a metaphor for how communist leaders who uprise against the government become the same as those they fought against
I could put that in a as one of the highlights of the show. Perhaps the comics as well, during an episode where Optimus and Megatron are starnded and need to work together, which also shows a flashback to their previous friendship.

I like him being a Megalomaniac conqueror, but i also like the idea that he and Orion Pax were friends once upon a time. Perhaps we can find a middle ground there.

Yeah maybe go with the modern depiction of cybertroian society like give Megatron and his followers an actual reason to rebel and start the war it would show so much and also show how hard it was when they went their separate ways

I don't know man, as I said, I like the idea of Megatron still being a megalomaniacal conqueror, as in he started the war because he wanted power and rule over everyone.

I have an idea for the backstory of Cybertron and why they ended figthing for resources basically million of years ago there was a Giant Inter-galactic war among the great powers of the known universe of which the Cybertronian Empire was one of them and at the end of it the planet was left an errant planet while Cybertronian society slowly collapsed through millions of years in a collection of warlord fighting for the remaining Energon in that chaos Megatron reunify the planet and bring back the empire, the series would start when the sides of the war have been reduced to Megatron's followers the Decepticons and the remnants of the old Cybertronian government the Autobots, we can also make like in the original comics with the matrix having being lost and Optimus recovering it and becoming the first Prime in ages being what allows him to unify by unifyng the opposition to Megatron in the modern Autobots we can keep them once being friends who were split because of the sides they chose to pick in the war if people wants to keep that, we can also make the later seasons about Cybertron reconnecting with the lost colonies and uniting them to lead the final battle against the Decepticons which by that point would have already fall to Unicron

OK, these are my proposed adaptations right that I will add to my plan in a few hours since Maggose has greenlighted the opportunity to acquire adaptation rights in this upgrade turn...

My estimation is 5-10 million per book, 20-40 million per saga, 50-100 million per Complete works

-[] Acquire the rights for The Adventures of Tintin from Herge for $50 million
-[] Acquire the rights for the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft for $100 million
-[] Acquire the rights for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Saga from Douglas Adams for $30 million
-[] Acquire the rights for the Dragonriders of Pern Saga from Anne McCaffrey for $60 million
-[] Acquire the rights for The Earthsea Cycle from Ursula K. Le Guin for $30 million
-[] Acquire the rights for all the available Isaac Asimov's books for $100 million
-[] Acquire the rights for all the available Arthur C. Clarke books for $100 million
-[] Acquire the rights for The Chronicles of Amber Saga from Roger Zelazny for $30 million
-[] Acquire the rights for The Forever War from Joe Haldeman for $10 million
-[] Acquire the rights for The Belgariad Saga from Roger Zelazny for $20 million

AFAIK no other studio owns the adaptation rights for these IPs, and if you want to propose other IPs to acquire I am willing add them...

And if you are against using the upgrade turn to acquire these rights instead of regular turns, please consider that Magoose has given his seal of approval and that once we started purchasing IPs, companies, and distribution rights in the previous upgrade turn the gates kind of opened...

Once more, buying IP's seems like an entire waste when we can just buy them in future plan turns. And I'm sure that the answer is going to be how we have the money, and we can do it. Yes, we can do it, but it doesn't mean we should. Part of the fun of the quest is deciding when to buy the IPs instead of just buying them all outright because we happen to have the money at hand.

Furthermore, we already have other properties that we have yet to use like The Princess Bride or The Last Unicorn, not to mention the rest of the books by Eve Titus that we have yet to use, so why would we add more when we are not going to use them yet. I could understand if someone else was getting close to buying said right, but many of these properties won't even be considered until the late 90s.

Furthermore, we have no plans to work with them either; Dragonriders of Pern, though in my list for later acquisitions, is still an ongoing series and we don't know if we should do a movie, TV or comic about them. The EarthSea Cycle needs more consideration if we want to do justice to the series rather than the disaster that came near the 2000s. The Belgariad is not finished yet. The Chronicles of Amber is an amazing story that I still need to work in for a TV Pitch, and that's without even mentioning what we can do with the rest of the works.

Frankly, buying all these properties right now is a bad idea, and not something that I think we should be trying all at once.

Ok, after reading your arguments I am willing to downsize my list significantly, there are still 3 things that I will add to my plan nonetheless
  • I still want to acquire the rights of Tintin before Herge dies, because the guys who took control of the IP after his death are quite a pain to work with.
  • Getting the rights of Lovecraft Works is going to be invaluable for our TTRPG division, and it will be the perfect bait to make sure that Guillermo Del Toro joins us in the future...
  • And I don't know why we haven't even tried to get the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for us... It is one of the funniest pieces of literature ever written which would be incredible as a film, a TV series, a comic series, a TTRPG system, or as a Graphic Adventure for Lucasarts...
The EarthSea Cycle needs more consideration if we want to do justice to the series rather than the disaster that came near the 2000s.
One of the main reasons for picking Earthsea was to make sure that the unmitigated disaster that was the 2000 movie never exists.
Dragonriders of Pern, though in my list for later acquisitions, is still an ongoing series and we don't know if we should do a movie, TV or comic about them.
I went for the Dragonriders of Pern because the two main trilogies are already finished...

We can make it so that WHAT he eventually turned into after he and Optimus went their separate ways

What Whenyouseeyou said. You could have Megatron be a charismatic freedom fighter who got corrupted by power and became worse than the system he was trying to overthrow.

If that's what you want then it's already impossible, considering that Herge died a couple of months ago in March 1983.

We can get the rights next turn as well without having to put it into a plan at this moment.

It's already been a Radio Show, a TV series, and it will become a TTRPG next year. This is not a work that has languished and no one knows its value, but one that its creator knows very well what he has created and is making inroads into different adaptations as well. I can see it he licensing it to us, but buying it might not be possible.

Yeah, but we don't have to buy it right now if we are not going to use it yet is what I'm saying. Plus, it's more fun to buy the rights through a turn plan than through these expansion plans.
I went for the Dragonriders of Pern because the two main trilogies are already finished...
Dragonriders is not something I'm ever going to be against, but I would suggest, as before, that we don't buy them using these kind of plans, but the regular turn plans.

Dammit!!! Well I have been reminding the thread about this since the end of 1982, so I am keeping this on my plan...
We can get the rights next turn as well without having to put it into a plan at this moment.
I don't understand why should we leave it for the next turn if we can do it now, we save the AP and making sure that Magoose Dice doesn't screw us over...

Fair enough, we will need a networking action with Douglas Adams...

Because it's fun. Not to mention that Magoose does not screw us over, he rolls the dice and luck sometimes is with us, and sometimes it's not.
I think the greater concern is less about fun and more that these acquisitions are being added on so late into the game. A lot of the people who voted early aren't going to see the changes that have been done, but will still have their votes going towards the plan, even if they don't support those acquisitions.

I have said numerous times that my plan is an open plan made in a haste to avoid the Overmind's plan Bandwagon would become too big, and that I would keep adding new investment opportunities that I may think or that other people may suggest...

And? Doesn't really matter if you said it at some point or not, most of the people involved in this quest(and most quests really, at least on SV) are low engagement and they don't read the messages, they don't discuss with others, they don't produce anything for the quest, etc. They essentially just clock in and clock out, reading updates and maybe voting, and moves like this take advantage of that, which is why making plans this way is a problem and it's why we should be avoiding IP acquisitions during this expansion turn, keeping them to normal plan turns.

If we're talking bandwagon, we could make the argument that your plan also became one. But frankly, I hate terms like those where it seems that plans are only followed because people follow what appears in front of them and don't have a mind of their own.

So let's not, okay?

Since it seems that selecting my reward caused my vote to no longer appear, I'll be reposting it once more.

[X] Plan Expand! Expand! Expand
-[X]The Movie Writers Room Extravaganza
: So the writer's room needs to be expanded… Holy fuck, does it need expanding. So you do the only thing that can be done. You take a look at expanding them, but spending tens of millions of dollars. Cost 400 million (The Writer's room will no longer produce films every six months, any film can be made without the script malus as there is now hundreds of writers and scripts being produced or purchased at a rate that is dizzying.)
-[X]The TV Writers Room Extravaganza: So Brandon basically came to you and needed to do one thing. He needs to upgrade and hire over a thousand tv writers for the shows that you want to produce in the future. And that means… well he needs money to expand. Cost 300 million (The TV writers room will see a large increase in quality.)
-[X] Pixar Computers: So Pixar needs more powerful computers. And Apple is offering at a discount. Cost 50 million dollars (Pixars quality increases)
-[X]LucasArts Expansion: The Lucasarts branch needs an expansion. So now its time to give them some love. Cost 100 mil (Can now produce three video game projects at once.)
-[X] Marvel Manga: A Bridge between the east and the west web-slung with care and woven into a weekly magazine. Excelsior! Cost 200 million. (Found Magazine in Japan. Gain Manga artists and writers for Eclipse Imprint)
-[X] Sega Arcade Saloon Extravaganza: Even with the revolution that home consoles have been, video arcades are still very popular and they will be for many years, and they only way that millions of children have to experience video games... Sega has a stellar trajectory as a developer of arcade games and machines as you can see in their spectacular Arcade Saloons in Japan, building some of them in teir likeness in the States (and eventually the world) seems like a good investment. Cost $500 million.
-[X] Solo Studio. With the creation of Star Wars level movies increasing in quantity, it is vital to have an in-company sound stage to meet prodution needs. Construct a sound stage within Los Angeles County, or if not feasible a nearby county to have appropriate scenes be filmed locally. $200 Million
-[X] Purchase the remainder of Debbie's films: You want to make sure her great career is a part of Lucasfilms history and honor Debbie the way she deserves. $40 Million.

Ok, let's ask the voters of my plan then...

Guys, are you against me doing what I said numerous times through this vote (including in the post that had this plan) that I will do, and add to my plan new investment opportunities that I may think about or that someone may suggest?
